The cultural traditions in a secular country. Christmas for example makes no requirement you have to believe in Christ, but you can still like the community and social cohesion the tradition has created.

Richard clearly meant that, of the options presented in the question, Christianity (at this point in time and in the UK) is the more "decent" of the two. He gave his reasons. He also emphasised that his answer was not critical towards the believers, but to the content of the holy books. People expect Richard to go "full Dawkins" at the drop of a hat and seem surprised when he holds back. He answers the question that's put to him in a friendly exchange, there was no need to channel the spirit of Hitchens on this occasion.

The context of what he’s saying is that he believes that everyone else should believe in the Christian religion, because the cultural norms set by a Christian nation, are favorable To the cultural norms of an Islamic nation. But he doesn’t want to believe in Christianity himself. It’s fundamentally an oxymoron to ask that the populist not believe in Christianity, yet continue to adopt the norms that come from adhering to the morality system of Christianity. There is no justification for the morality system of Christianity, without the religion.
