@@davidstaffell I don’t think anyone is trying to change their opponents mind. I think both sides realise they may learn something from the other, and both sides have the humility to respect someone with different views. That’s actually quite hard to do, as it requires, intelligence, maturity, and humility. No one has the right to change another’s mind, that is just arrogance. It’s up to each individual to search for the truth, and these two men can help a wide range of people to do that.

{Then when the boy reached the age to work with him, Abraham said, “O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I sacrifice you. So tell me what you think.” He replied, “O my dear father, Do as you are commanded. God willing, you will find me steadfast.”
Then when they submitted, and Abraham laid him on the side of his forehead,
We called out to him, “O Abraham,
You have already fulfilled the vision.” Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.
That was truly a revealing test.
And We ransomed his son with a great sacrifice
and blessed Abraham among later generations.
      Peace be upon Abraham.
This is how We reward the good-doers.
He was truly one of Our faithful servants.
We gave him good news of Isaac, a prophet, and one of the righteous.
      We blessed him, and Isaac as well. Some of their descendants did good, while others clearly wronged themselves.}

      @user-hu5nh2cx9j 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

{Have they not realized that God, Who created the heavens and the earth, can re-create them? He has set for them a time, about which there is no doubt. But the wrongdoers persist in denial.
Say, “Even if you were to possess the treasuries of my Lord’s mercy, then you would certainly withhold, fearing they would run out, for humankind is ever stingy.”
We surely gave Moses nine clear signs. Ask the Children of Israel. When Moses came to them, Pharaoh said to him, “I really think that you, O Moses, is bewitched.”
Moses replied, “You know well that none has sent these down except the Lord of the heavens and the earth as insights. And I really think that you, O Pharaoh, is doomed.”
So Pharaoh wanted to scare the Israelites out of the land, but We drowned him and all of those with him.
      And We said to the Children of Israel after Pharaoh, “Reside in the land, but when the promise of the Hereafter comes to pass, We will bring you all together.”}

‏This creation, the structure of the universe, the
‏foods, the tongue that tastes, the teeth that grind, the stomach that digests, the excretion of waste from the body, oxygen, the lungs, the eyes, the sexual desire and many other things, this does not indicate anything. Are you 100% sure of not having a creator?
‏ Rivers and seas and the creatures in them and the rain that sows the earth beyond
‏ It is very with lots of fruits
      ‏ Nothing creates something
‏Are you 100% sure of not having a creator?
‏Go and see what religion commands you to worship. One Creator created everything, no three, no more, no less, but one. Go and see for yourself, you will find only one religion
But I will remind you of something you may have forgotten. And I want you to think about it. You are here in this world against your will. Just think a little bit that you are not here. By your own choice. You are here by choice.Choose to be here.He is one and you will go. See who commands you to worship one Creator, and you will find one religion, which is the religion of the prophets, and that is Islam. The matter is not easy, the matter is great in this existence, because whoever is able to bring you into this world against your will, after death, will either find you in grace and beauty that you have not seen, or torment and fear. which you have not seen.
‏Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, is a prophet from the Creator, and before him many prophets did not lie or deceive, and he is the only religion that commands you to worship one Creator who created everything.
‏First of all, you should know that the religion of all prophets is the worship of one Creator who created everything. Islam today is the only religion that commands you to worship one Creator and not idols, illusions, conjecture or a number of gods. But how do we know that the speech is from God and not from Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace? . These are some of the things that comfort your heart and believe that this is a prophet and many of the prophets before him
This evidence appears generation after generation. The generation that lived with the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, witnessed miracles, and I collected for you what this generation has. in which we live
‏ The Almighty said: (Moreover He comprehended in His design the sky, and it had been (as) smoke)
‏ The smoke confirms that the origin of this universe is inflamed. It is not a lake of water, as was the perception of all philosophies and religions that are based on illusion. This is one of the postulates of modern science today that the sky is condensation of smoke. This fact converted the French scientist Maurice to Islam and wrote a book entitled the Holy Qur’an on the scale of modern science
‏How did Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, know this fact before?
‏ The Almighty says: ((And the heaven We constructed))
‏ The sky is a building, not a vacuum as it was thought, and this was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2017 that proved it
‏How did Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, know this fact before?
‏The Almighty’s saying: ((And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.
      )).
‏ That is, the sky expands with time. This fact, even in the time of Einstein, was not imagined by anyone and it was proven. And Einstein admitted it and admitted that it was the biggest scientific mistake he made in his life if he believed that the sky was fixed. The Qur’an before Einstein says that the sky expands
      ‏fact
‏ Almighty’s saying: :((And We have made the night and day two signs, and We erased the sign of the night and made the sign of the day visible that you may seek bounty from your Lord and may know the number of years and the account [of time]. And everything We have set out in detail.
      )).
‏ The verse of the night is the moon and the verse of the day is the sun. The Qur'an tells that the sun and the moon were fiery masses. That is, the moon was a fiery mass and was erased, and the verse of the day remained visible to the eyes. Was the moon a fiery mass and extinguished? This is one of the biggest scientific issues discovered about the moon. The moon was already a fiery mass, and NASA issued on its official website a conceptual clip entitled The Evolution of the Moon in the video. In fact, the moon was a fiery mass like the sun, and this is what the Qur’an told about and the truth of modern science.
‏How did Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, know this fact before?
      ‏Almighty’s saying
‏And you see the mountains thinking that they are rigid, while you will cross as the passage of clouds. [It is] the work of God who has perfected everything. In fact, he knows what you're doing.))
‏ And the verse clearly spoke of a strange phenomenon, which is that the viewer of the mountains appears to him still, that is, they are still, but in fact they are not like that, rather they are in a state of constant movement. And the infidels of Quraish had previously accused our master Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, of madness, and it is likely that their joy was overwhelming when this verse was revealed.
‏ They also found in it, according to their claim, evidence of this madness, and they told the people: How can you believe this man who says that these fixed mountains move like clouds moving in the sky!
‏ And today it is proven that the earth rotates, and with it the mountains, how did Muhammad know that and why is he telling you instead of the matter that makes people consider him crazy? The matter was not from him, but from God.
      .
      Almighty’s saying
‏Those whom Allah (in His plan) willeth to guide,- He openeth their breast to Islam; those whom He willeth to leave straying,- He maketh their breast close and constricted, as if they had to climb up to the skies: thus doth Allah (heap) the penalty on those who refuse to believe)).
‏After man was able to reach the sky by flying by modern means of transportation, he knew that the higher up in the air, the less oxygen and atmospheric pressure, which causes severe tightness in the chests and the process of breathing. :
‏How did Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, know this fact before? It was not from him, but from God
      Almighty’s saying
‏Or (the Unbelievers' state) is like the depths of darkness in a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with billow topped by billow, topped by (dark) clouds: depths of darkness, one above another: if a man stretches out his hands, he can hardly see it! for any to whom Allah giveth not light, there is no light!
‏Modern sciences have revealed that in the bottom of the deep seas with abundant water - the deep sea - there is great darkness, to the extent that living creatures live in this darkness without visual tools, but live using their other senses such as hearing.
‏These dark darknesses are not found in the sea water that surrounds the Arabian Peninsula, but rather they have been discovered in the oceans far from it
‏This verse shows another aspect of the Qur’anic miracle, which is that the sea wave that all people only knew was one wave in the seas
‏The verse says there is another wave in the depths of the sea, and divers discovered at the beginning of the twentieth century a fact that was hidden in the depths of the sea, that fact that shows another wave that throws divers into it as it is thrown at swimmers, and this wave was discovered by Scandinavian divers.
.I will tell you what the Prophet said. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: One day the Bedouins who live in the desert will build tall towers, and this is my duty. Go and see where the
tallest buildings are and who owns them.
‏God Almighty: ((We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?)
And God informed the Qur’an of this by saying: “Did you think that we created you without a purpose and that you would never return to us?”

Yes I'll have to agree, although likely for a different reason.
This video perfectly demonstrates how easily people can be manipulated through vague, false and damaging claims or beliefs. Also it perfectly demonstrates how hard and sometimes dangerous it can be to try to expose such manipulative behaviour, because the offender wraps their nonsensical arguments in powerful sensations like hope and both positive and negative emotion. Questioning or challenging the authority or the authenticity of the offenders claims and beliefs may also be simply rejected by claiming the challenger is some sort of a human hater or evil (talking about blasphemy, or perfectly demonstrated in this video; to be accused of being antisemitic). Not too many decades ago, and likely even today in certain regions of the world, a guy like Hawkins would be murdered for his very legitimate and objective utterances - and a great number of people would concur. It's absolutely insane, and horrendous.
Personal belief in something greater seems a part of human nature to me, but that is completely different to the autoritarian or even totalitarian mass delusion that religion is.

‏Anthony Flew is considered one of the most prominent atheists, so he retracted his atheism and ،told us that the universe has a deity with modern scientific evidence, not with thought or dreams and feeling, but after science and modern discoveries about the existence of a Creator. He fell into another problem that the Creator wanted according to his mood
‏ He wanted the Creator to be neither speaking nor hearing, and creating creation in vain
‏But it is logical that this Creator sends a messenger to teach us who he is. And we have to verify the authenticity of the Messenger and what this Messenger calls to?
‏ It transports sperm from the liquid state to the eyes, heart, blood, arteries, and bones. Unconscious nature creates a conscious human being. Then this nature teaches about the importance of the heart and lung, then puts the rib cage, then oxygen, then water, there is sexual desire, and there are the genitals to complete the male and female sexual process. , What coincidence are you talking about, a coincidence that creates the male and the female. All of these are called verses and there are things that complement each other, there is a lung and there is air and there are teeth and stomach and in food and other things and we say that it has no creator!!!
‏ The only question God will ask you is

‏ If your destiny is fire, has God wronged you???ًً
‏Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, is a prophet from the Creator, and before him many prophets did not lie or deceive, and he is the only religion that commands you to worship one Creator who created everything.
‏First of all, you should know that the religion of all prophets is the worship of one Creator who created everything. Islam today is the only religion that commands you to worship one Creator and not idols, illusions, conjecture or a number of gods. But how do we know that the speech is from God and not from Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace? . These are some of the things that comfort your heart and believe that this is a prophet and many of the prophets before him
‏ The Almighty said: (Moreover He comprehended in His design the sky, and it had been (as) smoke)

To admit that one is ignorant of a long-persisting pattern of human belief from the history of one's own culture and then in the next breath, claim the entirety of a concept emerged from one's own individual thinking (as if one is not a social animal, who grew up and learned by mimicking those around him), reminds me of that cartoon about the fish who, when asked about the temperature of the water that day, replies "What water?" Human beings (particularly young ones) are often susceptible to the conceit that our most cherished perceptions of reality and theories as to its nature are unique and products of our own individual genius. The older I get, the more it becomes apparent to me how very "normal" I am . . . at least in terms of the core characteristics that make me a human being . . . and only human, at that.

This is why we can only judge people on ACT, and not abstract moral laws. I think his point was, children are taught to judge others as being 'different' through abstract moral beliefs. Children understand truth at sight, they do not require lessons on morality - this is why religion is wrong, because it teaches a moral law, which always results in judging others and condemning those who are 'immoral' in their eyes. Moral good and moral evil are the same thing because because morality itself is the problem.

Blaming a religion makes no sense, people without religion who do the same in a different position of power.
Religion has precepts, but they are rarely followed by people and can also be abused.

‏All these and other matters that I have not mentioned indicate that this is a prophet from God..More important than that, as I told you, is the only religion that commands you to worship one Creator, who created everything and before him many prophets
‏Say, if you wish, there is no god but God, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God
      ‏ speak from the heart

3:22 “science can tell us about the origin of life…” (and religion can tell us about the purpose) Rabbi Sacks says. But recently i’ve found scientist/philosopher Bernardo Kastrup interesting. he says science tell us what nature *does and philosophy (or religion i suppose) can develop or decipher a meaning or purpose to life, or tell us what nature *is. my point being that my understanding is that exactly how life originated is likely out of the realm of science, and perhaps can be dealt with by philosophy or religion.
it’s like science can’t exactly pinpoint the moment of the big bang, but have pretty good scientific ideas on what things were like just prior to the actual moment - which, btw, it seems more and more (theoretical physicists etc.) are now thinking in terms of the big bang as not being “the beginning” of everything.

    • @brycehamilton4903
      @brycehamilton4903 ปีที่แล้ว +4

The Big Bang Theory makes no claims as to the origins or the cause of the universe, and anyone who says that argues that it does is strawmanning. It only outlines that the universe was at one point, concentrated in one location and them expanded rapidly. Science may never be able to demonstrate why it occurred, or what existed before (as time did not exist until just after the initial expansion). However, religion and philosophy provide NO mechanism to determine the same, and therefore CANNOT even begin to provide justified answers to these questions. They can speculate, but that in no way rationalises belief. The correct answer, therefore, is 'we don't know."

What we should all remember, as a foundation for this debate, is that Aristotle’s physics, with its teleological principle, held back the advancement of empirical and mathematical physics for perhaps 1,700 years. His physics were absolutely convincing and were held as dogma by Church theologians, but it turns out they were simply wrong. This goes to support Dawkins’ first statement that the question of “why” should be left out of hard science.

    • @ryanashfyre464
      @ryanashfyre464 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

One cannot ever leave the "why" out of hard science - and, whether he realizes it or not, Dawkins doesn't either.
The "why" is the fundamental question as to why anything is the way it is at all. It's the fundamental principle, the granting of that which can't be explained behind *any* scientific theory. In the entire history of science, there is not one single exception to this. None whatsoever.
For Dawkins it's the presumption that spacetime itself is fundamental and that what we refer to as "physical objects" actually exist whether they're observed or not. FWIW, modern science has *deeply* troubling results for Dawkins that not only threaten, but clearly cut out the legs behind both his presumptions, but that's another beast entirely.
For a theist it's that there is an intelligent mind behind the clearly defined and rule-based system of that which we call physical reality. That mind cannot be explained - only that it exists as the one granted miracle that explains everything else as a result.

The last questioner was *not* asking how we, collectively, should arrive at a moral system. (That is a matter covered in most undergrad degrees in ethics or philosophy.) Instead, the questioner was asking "Why should I care about adhering to *any* moral system that society embraces?"
The question is acute. In the absence of acknowledging a transcendent (whatever its nature), it is perfectly rational to respond to the question by saying: "I need not care society's morality. Let the plebs eat cake. Let others be moral. I will be above their morality. I will do what is good for me, even if that entails a pretence that I embrace their morality." Such egoism is so deeply embedded in our human nature that even religious people yield to it. How much more would it not be manifested in an atheistic Dawkinsonian future. It seems inevitable that intelligent rational people will drift towards such a pole. Indeed, many in our secularist society already do so: Trump, Putin, Xi, Ayn Rand, Hitler, Nietzsche, etc.
Dawkins disappointingly evaded the question. Instead, he gave a rambling non-answer and spoke about seeking a moral system that maximally benefits society.

    • @DownTheBarrelOfaGun
      @DownTheBarrelOfaGun ปีที่แล้ว +3

I don't think you understood what Dawkins meant. From what I understand, what he says is - you SHOULD care about adhering to a moral system that society embraces exactly because it would result in a more pleasant society for everyone to live in. Of course you could make gains by doing selfish things and so on, but generally that wouldn't be an optimal long term strategy. Therefore, in simple terms, you would want to be moral and live in a moral society because it benefits you and everybody else (morality out of egoism in some sense).

    • @DK-tk1nu
      @DK-tk1nu ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@DownTheBarrelOfaGun Thanks for your response. I understand the point you make. I do not recall whether or not Dawkins quite made it, but I accept that he probably meant it.
Your point (and his) hinges on an assumption: that people would buy into the "morality out of egoism" logic that you articulate. Clearly that logic works in a general sense. However, in each particular choice-point in my life, the question would still arise: "Can I get away with it [ie the immoral choice]?" At that immediate point, the main incentive to remain moral would be fear of being caught out and/or "love" for the people who would be harmed. The atheist is not subject to the same constraints the theist: that God sees and will/may punish (a retrograde notion of God in my view), or that my immoral choice would be discordant with the love relationship God has with me and the rest of creation.
I accept that you could maximise compliant behaviour of the masses in a secularist society by mass pressure and indoctrination, such as in China or North Korea. However, the incentive for good behaviour diminishes in proportion to the power of the individual. We see this all over. The rich and powerful who are not constrained by a belief in some transcendent entity, tend to become a law unto themselves. Well intentioned secularists in the West who advocate for a God-free society seem blind to this. They assume that the Judeo-Christian moral structures they have inherited will endure into a future secularist society even though the institutions that have engendered these moral structures will have fizzled away. I think this is unlikely.

      (1) You presume a religious monopoly on morality. (2) Your concept of humanity as innately wicked and incapable of peaceful coexistence is rooted in Christian mythology. (3) The bible itself is an immoral book written by primitive barbarians who were a half-step above cavemen.
"If you think that Christianity is the most direct and undefiled expression of love and compassion the world has ever seen, you do not know much about the world's other religions... If you think that it would be impossible to improve upon the Ten Commandments as a statement of morality, you really owe it to yourself to read some other scriptures. We need look no further than the Jains: Mahavira, the Jain patriarch, surpassed the morality of the Bible with a single sentence: 'Do not injure, abuse, oppress, enslave, insult, torment, torture, or kill any creature or living being.' Imagine how different our world might be if the Bible contained this as its central precept." (Excerpt from"Letter to a Christian Nation" by Sam Harris)

@@woodygilson3465 Hi. Thanks for expressing your thoughts. I think you misclassify me as a fundamentalist evangelical or conservative Catholic. I am neither. I am a pretty liberal Catholic. So:
      (1) I do not presume a religious monopoly on morality. I argue that without a loyalty to a transcendent there is no rational reason to commit to a moral action, when you perceive it to work against your self-interest.
      (2) Humanity is not innately wicked. Humanity is the product of an evolutionary process that endows us with various attributes suitable for thriving as small groups of nomadic families: aggression, territorial behaviour; tribal loyalty; selfishness, etc. These attributes are no longer helpful now that our species has become so successful that there are 8 billion of us on the planet. Various moral systems merely seek to contain our primitive attributes so that we may continue to thrive as a species.
      (3) I almost agree with you about the bible, but not quite. It is diverse library of documents recording the spiritual insights of our forebearers who were indeed primitive, some of them more barbaric than others. Some of the bible is interesting, some of it horrific, some of it deeply insightful into human nature.

One of the key psycho-social pages of development is that adolescents will examine their parents world view, compare those with others in the world and then decide what his/her views/beliefs are. Unfortunately most religions do not allow this because of the faith element.

This is a wonderful demonstration of the distinctions between western and eastern thought, culture, family, morality, etc.
I don't see Dawkins as a nice person at all. He is hostile and has a bone to pick. His attitude is seen in so many people these days as the general approach to those who are willing to accept a part of themselves that he and they vehemently ignore. Their own anger is so palpable it is as infectious as it is demoralizing. It saddens me to no end to know it would be a waste of my time to speak with someone such as Dawkins. Their energy would be to discredit and berate me as a fool rather than engage me as a person or seek to lift me up in my efforts to learn and grow if it's not within their context and content. Ironically, Evangelicals, Moody Bible Institute for example, can be quite similar to Dawkins in that attitude. It's pure selfishness and narcissism to say it's all about their perspective and their way is the only way.
Dawkins is contradictory in his thinking and words to acknowledge religion and science yet at the same time dispel one in favor of the other. He might as well deny his right thumb.
I think David Berlinski's statement about Dawkins book and his thinking is most apropos, it's nothing more than "elegant smoke." It has no substance and everything but a silver lining. It is a hopeless venture to set out to disprove there is a God, as well as, persuade others to follow suit. The litany of Dawkins predecessors in such ventures shows an exhausted bunch who many in the end relent to the existence, if not the outright belief in said God.
