I feel these two are the most patient players in the world .
exactly.. that is why Lin Dan is best. I am yet not so comfortable saying that about Momota.. he has some weeknesses that LinDan never had. Lindan was complete player.. i doubt we wil get anyone like that. I actually see Gintin to that level but his height is a disadvantage..Momota lacks in deception.

Old Lin Dan won with wisdom. Prime Lin Dan would be much more effective.

Lindan is really smart in this game. He consistently tries to hit low drop shots, followed by a push to momota' s backhand. In the end game first game, such strategy proves to work really significantly

Momota playing style at 2014 until before 2015 dubai series is more attacking shot , beautiful net shot..thats time he look like young taufik hidayat.until 2015 and now days momota defense skill increase and maintain his net shot,he started change a better way for him,more control and tactically,so his era will longer.
Lin Dan is at cruise speed throughout the match except for that last point. He probably felt like showing Momota what he can do in the last point, took himself up a gear, and despite Momota played very well in that rally he just couldn't quite keep up.

TME88 But at the same time, Momota went for lots of hard smashes whereas Lin Dan went more for placement and not as many smashes as Momota. But yes, his fitness is monstrous still

though the scores were so close, Momota looked so tired at the end while Lin still looked easy, and Lin is over 30 years old... incredible training and caring behind the scene...

At 30, your sense of reaction declined as well as your body gained a lot of weight and its required more extra workout to maintain weight. Your also getting slower as you gained weight and make you feel tired faster due to having to move a heavier body at the same speed. Im not 30 yet. But if I compare my physical condition now to when I was 20, I can see a big difference. I was faster and moving better on the court than I am now.

Everyone goes through that stage of physical change. Its just happens at different period for each person. But for most people, it will likely be from late 20s to early 30s. For LD in particular, his speed already started to slow down since 2010 (he was 27).

Hes definitely consistent... He's a special little snowflake though and wears jewelry to all his matches. He celebrates his opponents errors loudly and often to their face and as a Westerner (and human being), I see that as not being humble/being douchy. Never celebrate to someone's face, karma will get you every time.

Lin Dan hardly smashes so whenever he does, its so unexpected. I feel for Momota, he kind of forgot that Lin Dan has a powerful smash. Credit thought to Lin Dan, a player is really good when he can beat you without hardly smashing.

Too much attack from Momota. It makes him tired. He should focus more on his technical skills and on his defense (like Lee Chong Wei). Thus, he will have more energy and will be able to attack more efficiently. In this game, you can see how great is Lin Dan's footwork and shuttle placement. It is very impressive.

@@soltid562 typical japanese hardworking way of playing, but not satisfying for most audience I would say.
2015 was like start of Lin dan's decline, his win lose record that year drop significantly. On the other side 2015 was like start of momota rise, he won 2 big tournament (Indonesia Open, and SS Final) that year.
Its obvious LD has no more motivations to be at his best at that point already ... he's won every big titles multiple times already, nobody in history comes remotely close to what he's achieved.
By then he had already won like 5 World Championships (on top of the now discontinued 2 World Cups), 2 Olympic Golds and a whole truckload of Asian Championships/All Englands etc...
He used to be motivated to stop LCW from winning to defend the pride of China, but LCW's struggles in coming back from doping and his later cancer diagnosis means he's no longer the threat that he used to be, so LD really did not feel the need to be at his best anymore ..... the motivations are just not there, especially Momota was still relatively new at that time, he was not seen as a major threat to LD's legacy at that time ...
Lin Dan's biggest enemy is Age.

It was really a great match. Momota is probably the only player that plays so similar to Lin Dan-sive style. Like the male commentator said, it was a much awaited match.
The footwork movement and tactical skills were so efficient even back then.
Looking forward to see the way faster and improved Momota today at age 22 up against Lin Dan (should have improved after cutting down his modeling jobs)

2015 LD moving speeds was slowly downgrading. 2006 to 2012 LD was the Best of all time

Coaching is pointless in this sport if you own a Baddy shuttlecock launcher. You learn the strategy in the first month and after that it's all muscle memory. If he had to have someone tell him to play differently, he wouldn't be at this level

@@soltid562 LD's record was 9 titles in 2006, not 3. That was really something Momota achieved there, but it is still very small compared to what LD had. There are already many young players getting close to Momota's level. Time may run out a lot faster for Momota than you think.

I am honestly surprised by Kento Momota. Maybe it's because this is first time i see him play, his style is very similar to that of Lin Dan, he actually made Lin Dan sweat for it... But Lin Dan is still Lin Dan, his playing style has matured over the years, more technique over speed.

Momota made a lot mistakes and didn't have much experience so he lost LD when he was 20 but, now i think he is a perfect player, everything is improved so much. Hope, he can win gold medal in Olym Tokyo 2020 in his country

Smashing is only logical if your opponent is far from center or when his clear falls short. Otherwise you're jumping for no reason and you have to sprint to the net shot that always follows.
