I am 67 years old. While in my 20's, I learned that the average working class people do not have the time or the energy that activists have. The workers are trying to survive and provide for their families.
It's not only the leftist privilege, ownership and indoctrination of academia - it's the fundamental difference between utopian (dystopian) activists who see everything as oppressive and absolute power as the means to establish their extremist view of equality vs people who lean conservative and just wants to be left alone.
@@ERobbins1234 Lucky? B.S. Activists never fought for me. They absolutely did not help me survive. I am a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with 13 plus years of service, 1974 to 1980, then from 1989 to 1996. On a few occasions, some left wing activists did and said some rotten things towards me and my friends. I joined the Marines in 1974, about a year before the Vietnam War was over. I did not serve in combat, but I found out really quick to not wear my uniform in public. Back then activists would hang out at airports looking for anyone in a military uniform so they could target them, with insults and an occasional violent act. I did not experience very much violence towards me, except when somebody threw an orange and hit me in the back of the head or quite often challenging to fight me or other service members when extremely out numbered. I was overseas in Asia for 3 years from 1975 to 1978. The people of Asia, (Japan, S.Korea, the Phillipines and Hong Kong, treated me and other foreigners with respect. When I arrived back in the U.S.A. in 1978, I forgot about the hostility that some people had towards the military and I experienced some culture shock. I later lived in Northern California in the coastal counties of Humboldt and Mendocino Counties in the late 1980's and the 1990's. During the protests by the Earth First! activists and similar groups,, those people were full of hate and violence. Because of their actions, they are the direct cause of the largest wildfires in the history of this country, in 2017 to 2020. I can explain further, but I think you get the drift.

JP is back with another logical explanation for why and how we do what we do. Every time I listen to him, I learn something new. In this day of lunacy at every turn, he is a world treasure for his core rationality. I spent my youth reading Karl Marx and sipping beer with communist officials, and in my early 30s, as a trade union site delegate and part-time official of a strong left-wing Australian labour union, I liked fighting for our workers' rights. Women eventually entered our heavy industry work force in the early 1980s, but many males and union delegates resisted this. Women working in a male-dominated heavy industry sector was not regarded favorably, yet I objected, so I acquired the first female job site workers for our union. However, because of my deep Christian beliefs and because my union bosses, who were mostly communists, regarded me as unusual as did my Christian friends, I did not feel fully at ease as a union representative. Anyway, that's enough about me. JP is a beautiful blessing for truth amid this chaotic civilization of pretenders and fools.
Stay true to JESUS and follow his path. That is your toughstone in this world. Do as he did and be a servant leader to the people. Lift them up not push them down. Love and honor them. Put Gods kingdom first and he will take care of the rest.
I was born in the 50’s when traditional values weren’t questioned much……they just were. They “felt right”. My parents didn’t articulate these values but I suppose they just lived them because that’s what people did. Then in my early teens everything started to turn upside down and there were the hippies who wanted to deconstruct everything. I think that because I wasn’t able to defend why I thought the traditional values were “right” I was vulnerable to the new way of thinking and it messed me up big time. I was easily convinced that everything I thought was good was actually not good at all. I bought into some crazy stuff and ultimately ended up with no foundation. So I can appreciate what J.P. is saying when he says we need to be able to articulate our values and why we do or believe certain things. I couldn’t and it was to my detriment. That isn’t the end of the story and I was eventually able to stabilize as I adopted the Christian beliefs that I hold today. However, it was a very painful journey and damage was done that could have been avoided. I hope this makes sense to others.

Don't be fooled by clever-sounding excuses about articulating the reasons for your traditions or accepting it because 'that's how it's always been done'. Pure garbage. Adaptability is vital for survival. The way you live life is one example of how it could be lived, but it's not the only 'right' way to live it. I like JP but I don't blindly agree with everything he says. Open marriages for example. I'm slowly learning I want to build a stable base with someone and raise children, but I don't intend to spend my life surpressing basic sexual urges, which are entirely natural and therefore nothing to be ashamed of. And I wouldn't expect my partner to either. Whereas, when I was younger and inexperienced, I listened to all the bullsh*t that enjoying sex somehow meant you had poor values. Where is the link? Having good values is about doing no harm. If adults agree and consent: where is the harm? Ergo: no link to values, it's just how you've chosen to live your life.

I often hear these people have this attitude about well you wouldn’t have to go to the school board if you put your kid in the proper private school. In most of them feel like they are wealthy, because Jesus gave them the money because they are better people than everybody else and if people had to the faith that they have the outside world would matter and just forget about politics in the world, because that doesn’t matter as long as you love the Lord. There’s so much of this especially with older Christians who are afraid. These are the same people who swiftly abandon their church during Covid because they were told to by the government. These are the same people who said the government will never take their church away, and they will always love the Lord and worship. The Lord in church will always survive, and then, when you tell them or Confront them about what was done during Covid to suppress the church they give you a lesson on how the church could be in someone’s house, and the church is the people and not the building and all that because they don’t wanna admit the point. when you tell them, the government will take the churches tax exempt status, and try to close the buildings down if they preach against something that liberal ideology doesn’t want, next thing, you know you see pride flags going up on churches because they’re trying to comply with the government. As far as meeting at homes, that does suppress Christianity and if they want to they can you cell phone data or get neighbors to snitch on them like they do in countries like Cuba if people are gathering for religious meetings. A Scorpion, being a very poor swimmer, asked the Turtle if he would carry him on his back across the lake. The Turtle thought it was the craziest thing he ever heard, “Why would I carry you on my back?” he boomed, ‘You’ll sting me while I’m swimming and I’ll drown.” “My dear Turtle friend,” laughed the Scorpion, “if I were to sting you, you would drown and I would go down with you and drown as well. Now where is the logic in that?” The Turtle pondered this for a moment, and eventually saw the logic in the Scorpion’s statement. “You’re right!” said the Turtle with a smile. “Hop on!” So the Scorpion climbed aboard and the Turtle paddled his big fins in the water. Halfway across the lake the Scorpion gave the Turtle a big sting, and he started to drown. As they both sank into the water the Turtle turned to the Scorpion with a tear in his eye. “My dear Scorpion friend, why did you sting me? I am simply awe-struck. Amazed. I work for an American/multi-national corporate (I live in another country), which 3 years ago (when I was hired) seemed to be kind of reasonable, productive, and focused on work. Since then - step by step radical leftist politics sneaked in most every front - I started receiving compulsory courses - 4 times each year - about "Inclusion", about "LGBT" about each and every detail of the new Woke agenda. When in my country there came a loud public debate about something the government tries to fix - The radicals in our office (that's many thousands of miles from headquarters) were actually PAYED FOR going to protest and take part in riots! Whereas in the past we had gays and such part of our teams, and we didn't have to make anything of that - they're just part of our company as they are part of society - we now have no less than a "PRIDE MONTH" a full month in which we have to attend "all hands" events with food and "lectures" and "personal stories" of all the weirdos we ever could dream of - both from the company and outside it - and although this has NOTHING TO DO with our work, or even personal behavior within our teams - we are forced to be part of this. The window near my cubicle is clogged by "pride flags" and that stuff. As you can guess - Production plummeted, majority of workers are quite shocked - but are afraid for their jobs and so they shut up and cary on. But in reality - the radical-leftists actually took over this multi-billion company. In reality - they're subverting the money they make off of MY WORK (and all the 90 other workers who DO NOT share these political views) into imposing the leftist political view! Dr. Peterson is so damn accurate in his analysis - and the only thing I can say he's wrong about - is that THIS IS DONE TOO. I'm afraid to say but corporate America already caught this Violent sturgeon, and is rotting where it stands. They will no longer be able to fire a worker for not working - if he/she is a candidate for "Inclusion" or otherwise member of the "Victim groups" of the new Woke regime. They will finally have to fire the whole group instead, to keep the "balance". They will try to get to our children (they already showed such intention via family "events" HR are holding for kids...) This is one corporate, but I hear from friends that this is what happens everywhere. It's sad, and I think Dr. Peterson offers a solution that is NOT FIT for masses of people. Only to very sober and self-confident individuals. "Just say NO". well... I'm working with very intelligent and composed engineers. NO ONE DARES to say one word against this movement. And I know - because they tell me - that they are suffering.

the snake and tiger quotes have very different meanings though. tiger is more about leverage, only negotiate from positions of power. snake is about trust. if they're just going to lie why waste the time negotiating

And he's fighting to keep his Licence at present because spiteful Trudeau is after him. WE on the other hand have the awful Biden administration to combat - we have to DEFEND & PROTECT the vote 2024. VIVA TRUMP.
Couple of things: The Christmas tree is not a Christian tradition. I know the room probably likes the idea that it would, and that's why Jordy says it, but it's not. It's derived from Scandinavian Yule. 0:55 Radicals show the same personality traits no matter their affiliation. That means that radical leftists are the same as ultra-right neo-Nazis. They're highly disagreeable, yet conscientious and care more about the cause than anything because it fulfills a sense of purpose and a sense of belonging at the same time (that's also why they are mostly men). 1:11 The praying in public part is to fulfill those senses of purpose and belonging. It's how radicals align their identity with the cause. 1:17 Every side uses claims similar to "I'm against poverty" because it's something everyone agrees on. That does two things: 1. Because the public agrees with you on that small part, it tends to think you must be right about the whole issue, which is not necessarily the case. 2. It gives you the opportunity to show you're morally superior. Here's another familiar one: "I am pro-life." Nowadays, protest is increasingly sloganized: "Black Lives Matter," "There are only two genders." The slogans themselves are designed to be a universal truth that is hard to deny, making it seem like the thought behind them is truthful by association. However, factually all of those issues are way more nuanced than the designers of the movement want you to believe. 2:22 I agree with the statement that productive solidity is admirable and that a practical contribution is worth something more than just spewing words out of a feeling of moral superiority. That's why it's such a shame that radicals on all sides of the spectrum take hold of the public conversation and polarize the debate. It turns the large productive and nuanced group in the middle into victims that feel they have to choose sides. 2:59 While having a productive contribution to society is admirable, I disagree that they have the moral upper hand. This is what Jordy loves to do, and it's at the core of conservatism: the idea that keeping things the way they are is the moral high ground. And that is just plain untrue. We could argue over whether it is a sin to not question the moral base you build your society on, but the fact is that, unlike Jordy always makes it out to be, nature is not static. Progression is our nature. And progression is necessary, desirable, and morally superior because it's literally the way forward. I do agree that in these polarizing times, the way progression is sometimes forced upon the unwilling in an aggressive and entitled way is often appalling. 6:00 Isn't it funny how "Hollywood hedonists" do not get a further nuance but "Wall Street psycopaths" do? And that nuance is that those Hollywood people created a parody. Way to pander, Jordy. 6:25 That moderator is as dumb as a sack of lugnuts. Why invite a psychology professor for a debate and then claim that you don't have to defend yourself at all and that you're right by nature simply because your point-of-view come from conservative tradition? Baffling stupidity. 6:47 I agree that in some way lots of institutions are under attack from radicals, but those radicals are definitely not always left leaning. Yes the situation in American universities has gotten out of hand, but in lower education the right wing radicals are censoring vital topics to be discussed, like sexuality and (black) history. Women's and gay's rights are being reclaimed by conservatives and every attempt to stop school shootings is shot down. Imagine living in a country where your 6 year old kid has to do school shooting drills only because your congressmen are in the pockets of the NRA. Imagine that. To me, the university situation pales in comparison. And more than two-thirds of Americans agree with me that, at least in the gun debate, progression is the only way forward to a better society.
There was a time, not so long ago, that MLK Jr. and Nelson Mandela were called radicals, and the latter, a terrorist. It's naïve to think that things change without radical activism. We have the vote for minorities, for women, we have the weekend and overtime pay and lead taken out of our gasoline. Maybe the bigger problem is the squares of this world are so unhip their pants are falling down.
JP is probably the most important representative for conservatives today. During a time when conservatism is going through a sort of identity crisis, JP comes along in impeccable timing to help conservatives navigate their way towards a new and improved identity standing up for
There's no identity crisis with conservatives. They are stewards who want the best for their families and neighbors.. so they value economic opportunity, safe communities, good expendature of resources, and tradtional family values. There's no need for an "improved identity" when you're spending your time on values that help your family and neighbors.
I think we can always improve as humans. I want the best for my family, friends and neighbors. I also want the best for immigrants, homeless people, poor people and minorities. Why can't we do both?
The Christmas tree is a pagan tradition. The Evergreen tree was believed to have special powers as it was the only tree that did not loose its leaves/needles in the cold winter. So the Evergreen was brought into the home in the hopes that the trees special power would bless the home
No, he was.explaining it from a Christian point of view. When Europe/(especially Britain) but came Christian, the Catholic Church incorporated the Pagan rites into Christian events. Easter, a fertility rite became a symbol of Christ's death and resurrection. They did the same with Christmas, despite we know from the Bible Jesus was.born in the Spring.
I’m as he describes, I cannot verbally communicate my values thoughts feelings, so when I’ve been picked apart so many times. But I vote and I vote with my with my feet
Don't give up. The more you try to articulate your values the better you get at it. Biggest thing is to reflect on what you could have said but didn't If you have truth behind your values, then it will surprise you how easy it gets to defend. If all else fails, just ask questions. A simply why can pile them up just as easily as it does for us. If they say "Justify marriage", you can always just say "why". “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” -1 Peter 3:15

a lot of people like conservatives on various social issues but when many on the conservatives start their bs about pretending that education in poor areas is similar to rich ones and how everything bad that has happened to you is your fault.....people smell bs and walk the other way....
Although, I believe his conclusion is incomplete. Conservatives do not need to articulate why traditional values are valid. If you've build a business you know, that you have to validate your existence through dominance or eradication of the former thing to carve out a place for your business in the market. Well, in the market place of ideas this seems not to be case: Postmodernist can invent solutions from problems that don't exist and demand you make room for their ideas even when they are not proposing anything valid. Placing the conservative in this odd "anti-progressive" position by just leading a normal life. Trump is perfect antidote to postmodernism. He leans into norms and demands that you fight him to change his mind. This is the perfect response. JUST SAY NO! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!
Never play the radicals game, everytime you do you give them credibility, if you act like they have the right to demand something of you, you are in effect GIVEN them that right, and you cant take it back, and they will use YOUR compliance as an example till force even more people to comply.
@fredrikjohansson7854 I tell this to people often, especially with the Gun debate here in USA,... Do NOT let Leftists/Socialist dictate the Language ! Do NOT fall for the Trap ! I used to fall for frantically trying to defend my "need" for owning a Firearm any time a Leftist asked me why I "NEED" one,... Then I realised that I CAN have a Firearm & I WANT a Firearm so I don't have to explain or defend my "need" to anyone 😎
The Interviewer says in reference to defending a position against leftists, "Yeah, you're a nut and I'm moving on." That's what we used to say to all the wackadoodles. These days the wackadoodles are given way too much air time.
In times past, the crazies stood on a soapbox on the street corner to preach, or maybe printed a newspaper that nobody read. Now they can blast their message across the planet in milliseconds, and they can repeat it endlessly at virtually no cost. Even though they are a small vocal minority, they can make it seem as though they're actually numerous. In addition, they can use threats of reprisal to keep the opposition scared. They are basically terrorists.
It's because the wackadoodles kept talking and not everyone just moved on. Even a lie can win if it is the only competitor. When the wackadoodles talk it gives an opening for us to counter their points. We won't win by talking their air time, we win by putting a conservative next to them during all the air time. As long as someone speaks the truth, the lie can't win.
This makes absolute sense. Many young people during this time went off the rails and had a hard time admitting they had made the wrong choices. One of the most satisfying ways to make an about face is to immerse yourself in Christ’s teachings. It is not always easy to be a good Christian but the reason and plan for your life is there to be discovered. Following it will bring purpose and true happiness to your life.
In praising C. S. Lewis, Austin Farrer wrote, "Though argument does not create conviction, lack of it destroys belief. What seems to be proved may not be embraced; but what no one shows that ability to defend is quickly abandoned. Rational argument does not create belief, but it maintains a climate in which belief may flourish." I am thankful to those who help to provide the needed "climate."

ok boomer, meanwhile you're listening to a guy that babbles for a living.

Like the tradition of FGM? Or male circumcision?

I do agree with you that we should be concerned with our manner, but it must be a lower concern. Truth and love must be much greater concerns. (And it's important to understand that "love" does not mean a feeling. To love someone is to will what the good for them.)
My favorite lefty podcast says something similar: "meet people where they are". It's clear to me that leftwingers and rightwingers agree on way more than many realize, it's just a few of the fine details that they argue about, and some do so so extremely that they start a fight, instead of listening to each other.
Jordon Peterson is indeed a lone voice shouting in the wilderness and the most articulate person i've ever seen in the public eye!
7:00 If you don't argue your point, the only voice heard will be that of the radical leftists. The argument is not going to change the mind of the radical, but it gets your points out in public where it may influence someone else who had only heard one side of the argument.
I LOVE JBP. We must cherish and protect this man and LET HIM KNOW we do. He needs it; and there's NO shame in that! I feel protective towards good, principled people who are getting the crap kicked out of them by EVIL - - let's not mince words here - - forces that hate truth. We have your 6, Jordan! We love you!
He is an evil man masquerading as a good man, he believes in human exploitation.

Funny thing is that Jordan Peterson is more liberal than conservative as well.. but if you’re not part of the crazy cult you are destroyed.
JP is a moderate liberal, conservative in Canada is moderate liberal here.
@digiwatt Depends on the conversation there are plenty of things here where he comes across as conservative in the states as well.
One lazy afternoon day a Turtle was swimming happily along a Lake.
As the Turtle was nearing land he heard a Scorpion hail it from the muddy shore. A Scorpion, being a very poor swimmer, asked the Turtle if he would carry him on his back across the lake.
The Turtle thought it was the craziest thing he ever heard, “Why would I carry you on my back?” he boomed, ‘You’ll sting me while I’m swimming and I’ll drown.”
“My dear Turtle friend,” laughed the Scorpion,
“if I were to sting you, you would drown and I would go down with you and drown as well.
Now where is the logic in that?”
The Turtle pondered this for a moment, and eventually saw the logic in the Scorpion’s statement. “You’re right!” said the Turtle with a smile. “Hop on!”
So the Scorpion climbed aboard and the Turtle paddled his big fins in the water. Halfway across the lake the Scorpion gave the Turtle a big sting, and he started to drown.
As they both sank into the water the Turtle turned to the Scorpion with a tear in his eye.
“My dear Scorpion friend, why did you sting me?
Now we are both going to drown…” the Turtle was gasping for air.
“Where is the… logic in that?”
“It has nothing to do with Logic” the Scorpion sadly replied…

Two of my favourite people on one stage. Love it!
The interviewer says, “we don’t need to defend our beliefs. You’re a nut and I’m walking away”. That’s a perfect demonstration for why we’ve lost this battle. It’s lazy and irresponsible; and it’s a big part of why this nation has gone down the tubes. 1 Peter 3:15 says, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”. Peter was speaking about the gospel of Jesus Christ; but the principle is the same. We must be ready to give an argument for what we believe; especially when the left has become so intellectually dishonest and morally corrupt.
this is so good!! this is exactly why I talk more than I really want to..

And this is how Communists operate, infiltrate, using "ideas." bad ones and take over by subterfuge and shaming people into their way of thinking. Is and has been done in our schools , halls of "learning," forcing God out of them all !! Ja?
O'l Adolph said, " give me the children by age six, and they will be mine!" Dogs, and that rabid !!
The man is a prophet for all intents and purposes.

Dr Peterson's "you can't appease a snake" brought to mind Winston Churchill's quote "you can't negotiate with a tiger with your head in it's mouth". Both brilliant men with a way of illustrating meaning, that leaves no room to doubt what is meant.
And have you seen the Peterson-Video and GOP-Videos or at least Peterson-Video by 'Some More News'?
the snake and tiger quotes have very different meanings though. tiger is more about leverage, only negotiate from positions of power. snake is about trust. if they're just going to lie why waste the time negotiating

"You think you appease a snake? It's a big mistake." Great final line!
It's a good idea to know why you do what you do, not the best idea to do it because everyone else does.
I think you missed the point, it's not simply because others do it, it's because it's a fundamental good, and as JP was explaining you might not be able to explain it in a more articulated manner but that doesn't negate it's original premise.
Love the pushback from Peterson here 6:48 and wholeheartedly agree. We must learn to communicate the fundamental reasons underlying our worldview, not just move on.
Thomas Sowell said, there are three questions that would destroy most of the arguments on the left:
1. Compared to what?
2. At what cost?
3. What hard evidence do you have?
"Justify marriage!" …Compared to what?
"Compared to free love!" …At what cost?
"Free love costs nothing!" …What hard evidence do you have?

Very, very good. Without a vision the people perish. Happy is he who has a planted foundation.
Couple of things:
The Christmas tree is not a Christian tradition.
Nazis are mostly men? That is correct, but socialists are mostly women, at least from the University protests I've seen.
When I give food to the poor they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist. -Dom Helder Camara
I have my Google open while listening to Mr Peterson, to understand his words, well worth the patience required 👌
Because he making money out of the poor, he believes in exploitation of people

The Christmas tree is a pagan tradition. The Evergreen tree was believed to have special powers as it was the only tree that did not loose its leaves/needles in the cold winter. So the Evergreen was brought into the home in the hopes that the trees special power would bless the home
So JP had a different origin story. Imagine that.
Yet another idiot that doesn't know the difference between "lose and "loose".
Very articulate and significant comments.

People tend not to like Ayn Rand but she was another person through her novels that showed the evil of the woke. The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged really speak to the times.

a lot of people like conservatives on various social issues but when many on the conservatives start their bs about pretending that education in poor areas is similar to rich ones and how everything bad that has happened to you is your fault.....people smell bs and walk the other way....
Just when you start thinking Jordan is a lunatic, he blows you away with pure intelligence. Love this guy!
Never play the radicals game, everytime you do you give them credibility, if you act like they have the right to demand something of you, you are in effect GIVEN them that right, and you cant take it back, and they will use YOUR compliance as an example till force even more people to comply.

Exactly!

What seems to be proved may not be embraced; but what no one shows that ability to defend is
quickly abandoned. Rational argument does not create belief, but it maintains a climate in which
belief may flourish." I am thankful to those who help to provide the needed "climate."
Peterson is the intellectual titan of our time...think Thomas Aquinas, Newton, Johann Goethe, Shakespeare. They were all game-changers. He will be remembered.
