    That’s an impressive rig.I wish Small rig or Tilta would offer a ready to go rig like yours so I wouldn’t have to spend all this time trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t.Anyway thanks for sharing this video it’s very helpful putting the puzzle together.

      Thanks AJ! I know Tilta recently released a Ready-to-go shoulder rig. That Might be worth checking out! I was never really into building Legos as a kid, but I sure do love building out cameras, with all these small parts, haha!

    Do you know how hard I fight to make my rig as tiny as possible. And then I see this and second guess my decision for minimalist film making. 😂 the FX3 is my dream camera because of how tiny it is. But this looks so comfortable for hand held all day stuff.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Out of all the times we have shot together, we know that I like to pack on as much gear and accessories as possible! Maximalist. Lol!! I wish they would have made the FX30 smaller than the FX3, then I could justify picking one up for a smaller rig.

      @@RayValenciaI find rigs like that a little hard to get the balance right. They always want to lean a little to the right unless you have both hands on the grips - I don't mean you can't correct it but it's a conscious effort rather than natural. The old shoulder mount ENG cameras where they keep your right hand, palm up, leaving your fingers to control a zoom toggle (not necessary on your rig), right next to the midpoint of the lens with a wrap around grip (leather strap - like on the tilta cage grip) and leave your left hand free to focus etc seem like a better option for stability.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  ปีที่แล้ว

      @mondotv4216 That is exactly how I have my FX6 setup. I use this same handle setup (SmallRig Arri rosette to Tilta mini extension arms), on there but instead of the woodem grip, I have the FX6 handgrip with the Zoom Rocker, rec button, controls, hand strap, etc. It's a great setup. You are completely right on that! I haven't showed my FX6 Breakdown yet, but I will soon. Stay in touch!

    I literally had a whole set up pretty much trying to get something exactly like this. Came across your video. I think itll be cheaper, better functionality, looks better, and is exactly what i need. Just better and smoother than what i was looking at. Im sorry bro because i can tell you spent time and research to get your rig how ypu have it but i think im gunna have to steal this set up to a tee. Hopefully i can make mine look a little different other than my matte box lol but best fx3 set up ive seen easily. For me, this will work like a dream thanks so much. Do you hook up the right grip to the camera? I’m not sure if the cables that come with the remote grip are long enough to reach the camera a while on that extended rosette grip?

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope, too short, I don't use it connected when it's extended out like this unfortunately. Although, I would like to try out some of the Tilta Remote handles so I could control focus as well as Record Run/Stop. I just like the ergonomics (and look) of the wooden grips.

    I am thinking about building something very similar. But prescinding from the left grip and the pull focus, so I have open access to the lens... old school, I know, but I really prefer using the lense rings for pulling focus myself, aperture and VND control. My cestion is, how stable would this be? I asume that it can't be compared with bith hands on grips, bit I wonder. Txs!

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! That will work just fine, as that's how most News shooters operate, 1 grip on the Right, and lens free/open on the left hand for focus. The Sony FS7 came this way out of the box, with the Right-hand Grip extension. Gives you 3 points of contact for stability, including the shoulder pad.

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I usually record directly in camera on UHS-II Cards. I use the Prograde V90 cards. Their only limitation is they can't record 120fps in S&Q mode. But they can record 120fps in Regular shooting mode with no problem. I could also record externally on an SSD on the Atomos monitor/recorder I have on this rig as well. That also opens up recording in ProRes and RAW. I usually have a Samsung EVO SSD on the monitor.

    So you have a nice small cam and change it into a big bulky device? Not a very good plan!

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The camera doesn't get any smaller. Only bigger. If you ever work with a film crew, or sound guy, or a director, then you might think about this differently. If I take this camera out for fun,or traveling, then it goes out with a cage ONLY (for protection). And I love the compact size for that... But that's not what this video is about. This my Cine Rig for doing paid jobs. Not my bare-bones carry. I just got an FX6 too, so be on the lookout for extra big setups coming soon. Lol

    Great video, do you carry the rig by the plastic handle or use with an Easyrig! My fx3 rigged out is between 11-14 depending on the setup and I don’t trust the rig being carried only by the plastic audio top handle. Any experience with this?

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I carry it by the handle to transport, sling it up onto the sticks, etc. I just make sure the bolts on top are nice and TIGHT.. I've taken the handle apart before and found out it has a metal frame inside, so I feel pretty confident in it for basic handheld shooting and supporting the weight for low-angle shots, etc. I don't think I would use constant stress on it though like an EZ Rig, because the bolts can shake loose. I wish it was a little sturdier like my FX6 handle. That thing is solid.

    Thanks for sharing! Is the audio handle sturdy and reliable? I've heard reviews of plasticky creaks when handling it. Was wondering if it can handle all of this weight

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. Yes, that's true. I've mentioned this creakiness in a few videos and how to lessen. Like the XLR handle extension, which I highly recommend getting. If you touch the metal smallrig handle, no creak, but if you touch the plastic you can hear all the handling noise. This is why I mentioned the soft side of the velcro wrapped around my handle. Softens the plastic noise. If you need 4 channels of audio, or 3 mics, or XLR mics, you gotta use this handle. There is another Top XLR handle reinforcement Smallrig makes too. Otherwise, for 2 channel audio, I just use a wooden handle attached the top Nato plate of the cage.

    I got a question for you/challenge if you will, do you think theres a way to make a hybrid shoulder rig with the Rs2? Ive been racking my brain as to how Id do it, Ingot some ideas. Id love to bounce some Ideas if youd like, via Ig DM

    • @RayValencia
      @RayValencia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Rogelio! Oh, cool. Kind of like a DIY Ronin 4D?
      On my original Ronin-S, I had the dual handle setup mounted on it. I think that would be getting close to the right direction, besdies the part that goes in your shoulder. I feel like now, I would invest in the Tilta ecosystem for the RS2. They have the powerbase to convert it from the Stock Handgrip, the gimbal ring, focus controls, and even the steadicam vest for the Ronin. What are you thinking about doing?

    • @rogeliorogel8690
      @rogeliorogel8690 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ray Valencia yes something like that. I just use the rs 2 a lot and it gets to be so heavy at times..well, I guess the first thing would be to bring it down to a not so high gravity center, so maybe get that small tilta power plate for the rs2, and I guess ill have to get a V mount battery. However I was also considering getting a combination of side bracket extension arms for the RS2 on its nato rails and with the right L shaped accesories maybe mount it all the way to the front of the shoulder rig
