    What's kinda funny is that I am starting to see Instagram content that forces uses to go horizontal to view properly. Nature is healing.
    All the same, I love the rig and you have done it right.

    Well I usually shoot horizontally composing for the center third of the frame and trying to care for the other two thirds to be "clean" so I can get both horizontal and vertical video. I only shoot vertical when shooting a person talking directly to the camera or when I need an ultra wide shoot. This way I sell two videos to my clients, one horizontal for TH-cam that helps them with their SEO and a vertical one perfect for vertical social media. Also works better for me if I want to share that work on my webpage. Vertical video is in a 99% of times for IG/TikTok where video works in 1080/1920 so I can perfectly crop without loosing any quality and actually show the center part of my frame which is the best in optical performance. When the frame it's too tight, ok vertical, but if I can fit it in the center of my horizontal frame I keep it that way 😃

    • @VictorLaforteza
      @VictorLaforteza  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely the way to go if deliverables were both horizontal and vertical at the same time. I always tell clients that vertical would suffer if that was the case but they’re okay with it. Center frame can work but not every shot can be Center frame

    Feel like it all comes down to the SM platform developers and if they're willing to make the application of horizontal video easy for its users. I feel like rn now it's easier for platforms to just leave things vertical, based on their analytics of how users engage with video on their platform. Which is probably by a lack in improvement of UI and UX for horizontal video on these platforms. However, if they're able to find a way that makes the UI and UX seamless for horizontal video it'll definitely make a comeback on SM platforms. As creators would feel more freedom to create more engaging pieces of content that's sometimes limiting in vertical framing.

    I just wondering something, I never shoot vertical, I just crop 16:9 to vertical no problems at all. With my A7IV it is plenty of quality but I am wondering if the FX30 has the same "quality" for doing the same type of cropping. When using wider angle lens vertical is a NO go bc the edges or way more distorted and the quality of most lens are no good on the edges which making shooting vertically a NO GO. I am thinking about getting a FX30 and just wanted to know if it would be the same quality and dimensions as the A7IV even though it is a crop sensor? Hope that makes sense.. Thanks!!

    I think the vertical video has a lot of potential in today's market. I know a lot of clients here in the ph prefer to have their videos in portrait since it is easier for the viewers to see the content. But still it will depend on the trend and how they like their audience to see their videos in the following months. Both vertical and horizontal are amazing!

  • @ekphotography
    @ekphotography ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice one again, I tried shooting vertically for a while, But did NOT like the distortion it gives on wider angle lenses bc the worst part of the lens are the sides and the distortion is way more noticeable. So lately I have just been shooting Horizontally and cropping which gives way less distortion on the corners of the lenses. I imagine on anything 35mm and above it might not be as bad, but since most vertical videos are for social networks, not many will notice any difference in quality, but distortion when shooting models is pretty bad when their face or head is closer to the corners... Shooting 4K 60p with my A7IV is plenty to crop afterwards and I just leave some room above and below my image while shooting. Plus I will have Horizontal material for ever when the vertical trend goes away. I cannot stand Vertical format nor the trend.

      @VictorLaforteza  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100%!! I've had that issue before that's why I like shooting at 40mm+ with vertical. It just works best without that corner distortion with wider focal lengths. I wish vertical video dies fast though but we'll see.. it's just weird to frame sometimes.

      No but you want your client to see the final look on shoot than showing horizontal video and asking them to look at the cropped line. It's all about the client not your shooting experience. You also get the flexibility of actually getting better pixels in post reframing vertical 4k is better than reframing overcropped 4k. If it's a vertical only shoot, why not give the best possible outcome?

    Nice Rig!
    Given vertical is here to stay, and with clients constantly requesting multiple formats for delivery, these additional boundaries are great at pushing us all creatively!
    Personally, I'm a big fan when someone can produce beautiful work, that wouldn't look out of place on a super wide theatre screen - or a mobile.
