This year I have taken on the biggest project of my life, my passion, and my career. I am a ceramic artist and I make YT videos. I started this year ramping up my YT channel which was good but then had a bit of that "hit the wall" moment where I wasn't pushing myself creatively until I decided to finish my huge wood fired kiln project. Building that kiln kept me from creating videos for a few weeks but it really gave me time to think and decide what was important to me and what kind of videos I want to make based around my passion for creating works of art with clay. That time to think helped relieve me of that worry about what kind of videos people expect me to make vs what I want to make/talk about. Like you, I made a video about my thoughts and received a great number of messages encouraging me and thanking me for the thoughtful conversation. Anyway, thank you for expressing your sentiments on these issues! Its great to be able to look into your thoughts and heart for a bit. Cheers!!

It’s so crazy that sometimes people forget that their words, even typed, can really pack a punch - there’s a real person on the other side of the screen and just because a video they put out may not “suit your fancy” doesn’t mean that you should tear them apart with a comment. I was doing a Job for 2 years and I just got tired at a point, I figured out that I was never really happy doing it, I was just doing it because I had to. But now after years, I sat down and wondered what I loved, and then I realized it is Photography. Now I wanna start and chase it, my parents are kind of against it, they want me to keep doing the job that makes me unhappy till I get a bank Job or another Job that I am pretty sure will make me unhappy and depressed again. I am 21 and I feel really stressed already, but I am going to be a photographer no matter what, I am going to do what I love and keep growing to love it. I don't have any equipment yet but I will keep watching this videos and taking notes till I get the necessary equipments and even after getting them. I will keep watching these videos you post and I will forever be grateful for finding your Channel and for these videos. God bless you once again.

It's actually just like LOVE... why? Because when you love someone, you tend to give everything you have. And that signifies that Peter love us (subscribers). He give us all the knowledge he can give and he didn't even noticed... he doesn't actually do the things he teach us anymore. Just do what makes you happy. That is the most important thing. Excellent advice Pete. I'm a sound designer and for a long time I was burdened with "freelancer guilt". I was saying yes to every job offer because I felt like I had to, because its such a privilege to make a living from your passion. Then somebody told me, if you say yes to every job offer - then you're not choosing your portfolio, someone else is! This really helped me to understand what you're saying about creating for yourself - which has really helped me to find my style/voice etc.

Hi Pete, I am an amateur photographer got camera few months ago, but I loved taking pictures since a time i can't even recall. Every bit of what you said in this video, deeply resonated with my core. Social media makes me all anxious, victim of instant gratification, greedy for followers and likes, but whenever i watch your video, my mind resets as to Oh, wait !! I should enjoy this first, create what i wish and polish it. That feeling is very liberating, and a constant reset like that is very much needed for people of this generation, to be genuine artists. I'll be honest, I kinda fell out of the loop with your channel recently. I've been struggling through some stuff with my career and personal life, and honestly watching other people thriving has been KILLING me, so I've steered clear of this kinda content so I didn't get too negative about my own path. This is the first video I've tuned back into for a while, and DAMN I am reminded on why this channel has been such a powerful source of inspiration to me! This is EXACTLY the message I needed to hear at this point in my life, a time when my photography career has been SUCH a struggle that I've questioned why I'm doing this, and struggled to overcome my own fear and tackle the things I'm uncomfortable with. Can I just say how amazing this footage is now that I switched it over to 4k, which I had no idea was even possible. Anyone who hasn't should definitely try it. The way that PMs videos were meant to be watched. Big thumbs up for PM.
Boy can I relate. Fiber arts was my hobby, that turned into an indie dyer business. It was fun and interesting at first, creating new colorways, learning and trying new dye techniques. Then the demand grew and it became production, repeating the same stuff over and over. And, it took away all the time I had to do any fiber arts just because I wanted to. No time to spin, knit or weave, except to make samples for the business. Then we bought property to start a homestead, and I started YouTubing that, and that became my creative outlet. But I suck at it, lol, I have a lot to learn (which is what led me to you). I’m working on improving B Roll right now, for the homestead channel, but now I have all sorts of ideas for a fiber arts channel. Creative minds never stop, I think. And you are right, we have to make time/take time for our passions. I’ve reduced my biz schedule drastically for 2020 for exactly that reason. Thanks for sharing this, and all your videos. I’m learning a lot here.

I think those that are subscribed to this channel and watch it on a regular basis, whether to be for cinematography or photography do it for one simple reason. That reason.....Peter McKinnon. You are a realistic, informative, funny as hell, yet positive influence to a lot of people. The highlight of my week is watching new videos from you pop up on my feed, and you are almost clairvoyant in the content you post, as like a lot of comments here, you have managed to reinspire me at a time i was starting to feel jaded and thinking aboot "resting" my camera for a while, and you sir managed to remind me why I lug my camera everywhere I go. It's actually just like LOVE... why? Because when you love someone, you tend to give everything you have. And that signifies that Peter love us (subscribers). He give us all the knowledge he can give and he didn't even noticed... he doesn't actually do the things he teach us anymore. Just do what makes you happy. That is the most important thing. And yeah... you can't please anyone.
Excellent advice Pete. I'm a sound designer and for a long time I was burdened with "freelancer guilt". I was saying yes to every job offer because I felt like I had to, because its such a privilege to make a living from your passion. Then somebody told me, if you say yes to every job offer - then you're not choosing your portfolio, someone else is! This really helped me to understand what you're saying about creating for yourself - which has really helped me to find my style/voice etc.

Hi Pete, I am an amateur photographer got camera few months ago, but I loved taking pictures since a time i can't even recall. Every bit of what you said in this video, deeply resonated with my core. Social media makes me all anxious, victim of instant gratification, greedy for followers and likes, but whenever i watch your video, my mind resets as to Oh, wait !! I should enjoy this first, create what i wish and polish it. That feeling is very liberating, and a constant reset like that is very much needed for people of this generation, to be genuine artists. I can only THANK YOU from so far for doing this kind deed and keep watching and following you more. I tell my friends, you are my favorite photographer, not even kidding !!!!

I'll be honest, I kinda fell out of the loop with your channel recently. I've been struggling through some stuff with my career and personal life, and honestly watching other people thriving has been KILLING me, so I've steered clear of this kinda content so I didn't get too negative about my own path. This is the first video I've tuned back into for a while, and DAMN I am reminded on why this channel has been such a powerful source of inspiration to me! This is EXACTLY the message I needed to hear at this point in my life, a time when my photography career has been SUCH a struggle that I've questioned why I'm doing this, and struggled to overcome my own fear and tackle the things I'm uncomfortable with.
Now is the time to get up and take those risks and keep on PUSHING! Thanks Peter for saying what I needed to hear!

Can I just say how amazing this footage is now that I switched it over to 4k, which I had no idea was even possible. Anyone who hasn't should definitely try it. The way that PMs videos were meant to be watched. Big thumbs up for PM.

Boy can I relate. Fiber arts was my hobby, that turned into an indie dyer business. It was fun and interesting at first, creating new colorways, learning and trying new dye techniques. Then the demand grew and it became production, repeating the same stuff over and over. And, it took away all the time I had to do any fiber arts just because I wanted to. No time to spin, knit or weave, except to make samples for the business. Then we bought property to start a homestead, and I started YouTubing that, and that became my creative outlet. But I suck at it, lol, I have a lot to learn (which is what led me to you). I’m working on improving B Roll right now, for the homestead channel, but now I have all sorts of ideas for a fiber arts channel. Creative minds never stop, I think. And you are right, we have to make time/take time for our passions. I’ve reduced my biz schedule drastically for 2020 for exactly that reason. Thanks for sharing this, and all your videos. I’m learning a lot here.
