Sorry for the false alarm! Uploaded the wrong video first LOL whoops! PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY is one of my favourite things to do and how I first started earning from this passion! Who's headed to an antique shop?!?
Great video, Just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. 40 years ago I was a teen and I loved photography. Unfortunately I had my Zenit E 35mm camera stolen while I was at school. My parents could not afford to replace it and that ended my romance with the camera until I saw a video you produced early last year. I am 56 now and in April I will begin a new chapter in my life. I will make a start on my diploma in photography. I have to do it on a casual basis with family and work commitments but I am doing this for me and I just wanted to thank you and Matti. I wish you and you beautiful family all the best.
I've been a pro photographer for 23 years self employed. Are you shooting now with film or digital? Your story is inspiring all by itself. I was 23 when I started and now being 46 I still have the passion and the energy to work and mentor. Please hit me up with any questions about photography or the business aspect. Stay Focused! -GK
Absoulty amazing work as always. Product photography has always been something that grabs my attention and I cannot wait to start approaching companies in the future 😁
This is literally my jam! I love doing these types of shots for our clients, their basic thing is Indian wear and there is so much you can do in terms of either full shots or flat lays or showing design detail, or fabric detail or embroidery, so many elements to focus on in just one garment is so fascinating. Would like to see a part 2 of this which includes photographing clothes.
Awesome Peter! Don't ever be sorry for long videos! We enjoy every second of it! And since I'm writing this comment I want to say Thank You Peter. You inspired me to buy a camera, to go deeper into photography and improove every single day. Now, three months into my journey - photography has become a big part in my life! I feel motivated and happy about it as I never been before. Thank You man.
This was by far one of the most inspiring photography videos I've seen in quite a while. No unnecessary gear talk no complicated stuff and no gear whoring with equipment that costs more than a car. Just plain creative hints and pointers. Awesome!
Maaaaaaaaaaan look!! this video was uploaded at the right moment, the right day, just got hired to do a couple of product photography shots and this has HELPED ME A LOT! Thank you Peter. THANK YOU!
Marcos Pérez how do u edit your photos after you take the pictures? I would love to see your photos straight from your camera and then how they look after editing... the reason i am asking is because when i take pictures from my Canon 70D w/ ef 35mm IS USM lens, it looks regular.... i have yet to understand the settings... please if u can send me your email address or anything to contact you.
Marcos Pérez in this comment i am asking you lol, because you said you got hired recently to do product photography... i would like to know how your pictures come off straight from camera without editing and also after you edit them. I suck at taking pictures and mines just look Blah...
Oh got it, is just that... I am practically nobody xD that's why I got confused but yeah I can send you some before and after of my product photography although I gotta say, Portraits are my actual thing!
Marcos Pérez anything will help. I just really need to see the possibilities on how photos turn from regular to amazing photos after editing or so.... You are somebody :-D you just haven’t gotten the chance to actually show the world your talent... I picked up my first Canon camera 2 years ago and i still havent really started doing what i want to do with it because i am highly confused about how Peters and every other TH-camr get such great looking photos and mines are a pain to look at hahahaha... Email me, Mistahdopestar1@gmail.com - Fantazma
Exactly. This topic is perfect for a two part tutorial. I think post is also a huge deal with product photography, colors can effect a person's feelings and therefore influence them around a product.
13 minutes into video: "I think this video has been like 45 minutes long." If only. This was great. Would love to see more like this in the future. Very informative/entertaining!
So glad to see that even you - The Peter McKinnon - created some photos for free to the James Coffee Co. brand that you like until they noticed you so you could create a relationship with the client to be able to start being commissioned. So CHILL guys, you're not going to make it - as influencers, filmmakers, TH-camrs, photographers, travel bloggers - overnight. Work. Harder. And then eventually you will make it. So chill then work then will.
Can we all take a minute to appreciate how far Pete has come in less than three years? From doing product photo on his kitchen floor, to the amazing new studio and Hyundai campaigns. KEEP ROCKING MAN!
I have seen a lot of tutorial from PRO's and none of them was as clear as this video. You are so direct and to the point, I really like that you focus on what really matters (the creative part). Most of the time what we find on the internet is tutorials and courses that are very technical and that use very expensive gear or others that teach you how to get great pics but doesn't teach you the creative part that is the most important. All of that to say THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING. Congrats and thanks for sharing it.
Great video, I hope you can do "part 2" where you go even deeper, with lighting, camera settings etc. I have to add that I really enjoy these kind of product photos, in my dayjob I take product photos and so often they just want product on white background, evenly lit. So I end up taking photos with props too but those rarely are used by our company. BUT I do maintain our social media, so I shamelessly post them there, without even asking. ;)
two things I love here 1. Your title sequence with logo 2. your logo in the bottom left screen - on a personal note, you look like someone I would be friends with! I love all your trinkets!
*Peter showing his set for the product* Me: That's nothing. I can do that. *Peter showing his photos of the product* Me: Shit that doesn't make any sense
i didnt understand it at first, until i got a macro lens which makes all the difference. Also changing your WB for the same kelvin as your lights helps in post
Breacking news, peter mickinnon just uploaded a video that makes people not go to film school. This channel is like the awesomest of all time. Thanks for the video peace!!!
Loved the whole video, but those last few words about how you built your product photography relationship were so valuable for me. The intro to those convos can be difficult and that approach is spot on. Thank you!
You have THE best channel - it's fun to watch and there is so much practical advice. As an enthusiast photographer wanting to up skill myself quickly to increase my business's social media and website presence, your advice is invaluable.
Because of your amazing video I just did my first product photos for my shop on my own. I am no photographer AT ALL and still managed to get some great pictures. Thanks a lot, Pete, and keep on doing what you do! BTW: I would move to see more "build a brand" stuff :) Greetings from Germany!
I love watching your videos. You're always so detailed in the lessons you give. It's clear that you have a great understanding of photography, and you show people that you don't always need a huge budget to be creative and get some great photos. Thank you.
I own an online electronics shop with my two brothers so product photography is like a daily basis routine and this video really helped me a lot with that ! thank you , would love to see a video about productio videography like those short product presentation video ! Keep up the good work Peter !
These type videos make me a bit emotional. Before I found this channel I was just a boy with an iPhone who wanted to take pictures who thought maybe he could be good at it but nonetheless was still lost. You have been like a guiding light giving me little nudges to help me find my own path. It’s like I can feel my life changing as I’m watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, it is both encouraging and inspiring. One day when I’m telling my story Peter McKinnon will be a part of it. I can’t thank you enough. Hands down the best channel on youtube.
I know this was three years ago Peter, but thnx for posting this one. I'm 36 and finally bought my first camera to start finally a long-due passion. New to your channel and it is very inspiring!!!
