Thanks dawg - I'm super stoked for that ridge wallet 🤩

hahahahahahahaa the GUY!
We love sad film man.
Hahahahaha
Jason the Aerochrome godfather
Instagram changed into glorified tiktok and lost their sense of identity
I deleted my account half a year ago. I don't miss it at all.
Instagram just copies whatever app is trending. They did it with vine and snapchat... now they are doing it with tik tok
TH-cam as well, I open the app and it automatically opens on the shorts page. I'm not interested in such short form content but it's being pushed heavily across all platforms.
It's tik tok for businesses.
and its booming right now because public wants that not the actual art : (
Instagram became so annoying. It does not show You the creators You follow but it shows paid ads from mediocre "Influencers". If You do not pay for advertising, no one from Your followers see Your posts. It also changed to short videos which I hate from my soul instead of pictures. If I would like to watch shitty short videos, I would create a TikTok account for that (I do not have one).
The part where even your followers don’t see your post is crazy for real…
😭👍
you can actually stop that..there’s a setting for that..
@@travelwithelle5306 when it comes to the creators you follow you need to switch the button on the top left corner every single time and of course the default setting is not the content you follow. As far as I know I can’t make seeing creators I follow the default behaviour. In a browser I just saved a link to the followed content when I open insta but on a mobile device within the app I guess it’s not possible.
In the recommendations, there is an X where you can choose to remove the recommendations from your Instagram feed so that all you see are the posts from the people you follow and a few paid ads
I'm a full time blacksmith and blade maker and Instagram has truly screwed me and my community over hard. Banning our content over and over for no reason
I feel this but with tik tok even more
Just a question. If ig can screw you by banning your video/photo, aren't you then a content creator and part time blacksmith.
@@poochbaloo5995it's called marketing.
Just subbed dude, I am trying to start a side hustle possibly using insta as a marketing tool and now it seems thats not going to happen. Keep hammering brother.
@@mikedegrazia Yea it's tough. I've almost exclusively moved to just posting stories just to get seen. Sad. I think I will make a TH-cam vid and try to spark some conversation
Meta trying too hard to be just like everyone else! Instagram needs to go back to what it did best, uploading regular PICTURES without assumptions.
How awesome was it? F*n miss that
Original IG was great.
well I like the feature, as long as it's not overreacting to stuff that's not AI generated
They react to market trends so they will never go back.
Does it, tho? Why would it go back to the old way? Target demographic changed. If you call yourself a "photographer," you're not the target audience anymore. Insta is main stream social media for moms and their tween daugthers, just with a larger focus on visuals, i.e. short form video. Photography on Insta is dead and not going to be reanimated.
2:38 correction: Photoshop was only the extension of what we did in the lab with masks (paper), brushes, scalpels, paint and time. Picture editing existed decades before photoshop was even called "display".
Instagram has literally died. Unless you're famous or a model it feels like your posts don't even get shown on the algorithm. As a regular dude posting my photography, my posts get like 5 likes and barely even get seen. It's extremely frustrating.
That’s a feature not a flaw. Paying for ads or “boosts” also create diminishing returns on purpose so you have to put more and more money into Meta.
Yea that's how is is for all of us that aren't paying to get our stuff seen. It's all rigged and most of the top people are Mason's. Secrets boiiiiiiiii
Mẹta literally killed itself
Same here! I don’t even get seen by my friends and family who would support my photography if no one else does 😅
A collab I wasn’t expecting but absolutely needed. Can’t wait for Jason’s video!
Every single picture from any phone can be deemed as "Made with AI"
great point. That's even more the case with selfies.
True. Or if you just have auto settings on your camera. I don't know what's real anymore. Lol
Such a good point
Truth!
I guess you're missing the point.. The label appears 'Made with AI' when there's any form of image manipulation.. if you edit your photos, it's not goin to be tagged but as soon as you replace or remove stuff.. then you get tagged.. I think it's a good thing.. let return back to real photography and not graphic design + photography
I love it. For years everybody complained that what you see on instagram is not real life and now we are one step closer to knowing who's content is real and who is just really good at pretending.
yeap.... the old Photoshop tools we used for years are now called the fancy name "made with AI". There is a clear line where AI starts but removing a pimple??? ha... no... we used to do that with "OLD FASHIONED TOOLS" for years
Took the words out of my mouth. How is grabbing the clone tool and removing a zit ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE? It's not and it shouldn't be crammed into that term.
I believe they don't give an F about regular people and photos...I presume is all about "avoiding fake news" specially in a year election in the states...this companies are trying to show transparency...while here where I live in southamerica we can't submit the forms stating we don't want our photos to train the meta generative models
I remember some of the Photoshoppers who were very adept in removing lot of unwanted material from the photos. That took hours to do so. When Adobe announced the new features that did the same thing, they screamed.
@@hbmorris5558 I know.... it is very frustrating at this point.
Technically those old fashioned tools are AI. It's an algorithm a bit dumber that what we call AI now but still.
There’s a simple fix. Make your image, then screenshot it off your computer, save again and then upload. The indicators are coming from Adobe when you export the image. They are embed in the image metadata.
Or simply don't use AI tools like generative fill or content aware fill=) Good ol' manual clone-stamp, healing brush and all the regular stuff is ok. I understand that some of those advanced tools can really save time, but they actually use online data bases and learning algorithms which is considered an AI tool for a reason. Anyway, instagram isn't the place for photography anymore.
@@StforvYou missed the point. This is happening when using simple tools like clone stamp, or erase. Basically most things in PS and LR.
Even more simple is just stripping the metadata.
screenshotting typically lowers the quality no?
Gotta just export without Metadata maybe
This was absolute fire. I love the way infrared landscape photography looks.
Jason is a huge inspiration for a lot of people. In the past year his content really made me push on my film photography. His channel is so great. You giving the last roll to Jason is the best thing you could have done with that roll. Really appreciate it!
"if this says imagined with AI on it I'll F break my phone"
Best words ever!
I felt it too!
I am so happy to see you introduce so many folks to film. It took me losing so many clients to shoot digital in the early 2000's. Even though I no longer shoot it, my film days were my favorite time of my career. Now I have to go find my images I shot with infrared....
Don't know what it was about this video, but it felt like just chilling with a mate and chatting. Loved the relaxed vibe man, it feels good. Feels right!
That's the McKinnon touch, bro. Inexplicably likeable. Welcome - LOL! 🙂
This is why I love Peter's video. He's super kind for his colleagues and support them. Hope to see Jason's video soon!
Can you imagine someone getting photos back from a wedding, posting them, and then freaking out about the AI tag 🤯
that is actually gonna suck
It’s going to happen if it hasn’t already 🤦🏽♂️ and it’s going to be a nightmare. A lot of wedding photographers use AI like Aftershoot, imagen, phaito, etc to batch edit. Maybe it’s time I get out of wedding photography
Even a topaz ai to reduce noice that’s bullshit
@@Uniqdna but where to. wedding photography is the last remaining well paid niche that cant be taken over by actual AI. xD marketing photogs etc are more endangered. where would you go?
Bro Jason is gonna love this lol.. He deserves this one. We need a Pete and Jason video soon
Man, your videos are as good as 5 years ago. Never a waste of time, always a pleasure to watch.
I’ve always been into photography. I am an absolute newb. But I’ve been following you for years. Everytime I see one of your videos it inspires me to want to learn more and be better. Thank you!
IG's lost its way for photographers a while ago. Trying to upload pics is even worse.
Have not watched for a good amount of time. Randomly spotted the video, and in seconds i get washed back to the Peter Vibes i got years ago. Felt good. Thank you. ❤
Jason is the OG. Cannot wait for his video!
What is an OG?
Hey man, thanks for the video. I watched some of your stuff years ago when starting my photography/cinematography journey and found several of your videos to be helpful. As I haven’t seen any of your content in quite some time, it pains me to see the stress and uncertainty you appear to be struggling with right now… you seem to be going though a lot to where it’s effecting you even physically to a pretty notable level. I just want to say that whatever you’re going through, God has a plan for your life and there’s freedom to be found in that. Peace as well. I’m here if you want to talk… social media can be tough, but know that you have a purpose that doesn’t depend on your likes/comments/ratings 🙏🏻
Love the grainy days shoutout. Warmed my heart. 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️
This is super interesting! I'm definitely on the fence about this tag! As someone who makes a point to only minimally edit my photos, but does use photoshop I'm really interested to see how Instagram auto tags my posts!
It excites me that you and Jason are kind of collaborating in some way. Perfect combination! 🤘
Just so much in this video! Love the pics! Love Ridge! Holy crap dude, this pics! And Fai!
And love the nap space
I shoot on a full spectrum IR converted Olympus EP2-L to get around the cost and inconvenience of shooting with IR film. I just love what you can do with digital IR on a low budget.
Peter McKinnon is the only person on TH-cam who can roll around on a chair for the first 5 minutes of his video and still retain his audience.
Never expected a Peter McKinnon Video to be exactly 13:37 lol
It's 13:36 for me lol
never expected a Peter McKinnon viewer to not know his basic numbers
Sharp!
It’s 13:37 for me lol
More Grainydays love. *pours out flaming mountain dew for the homies*
whoah... I should have bought it when it was $80... $265.00 Buy It Now +$24.00 shipping from Canada
I'm loving this new era of Peter, where he uses film as a lens to explain digital photography to us!
There’s a great Albert Maysles quote that springs to mind here: “Tyranny is the deliberate removal of nuance.” Instagram is nothing if not a tyrant. What we really need is to educate people about photography and photo editing software (this video helps). Nice job respecting the Aerochrome and photographing all those lush greens!
You as read at the end was very well done. A lot more personal than most I see on other channels
Appreciate you bringing awareness to this severe overstep by IG. Totally agree with you and if the image is created using AI to be something totally different than what is real then yes, but just because you did a common and routine edit that any photographer would do and label that way is ridiculous.
This video was Made with talent and hard work !
Pete’s style of video is unmatched! So good!
Meta product associated with the word, “overreach?”
Sounds accurate AF to me! 😂
Instagram got photographers mad cause “learn how to take a good picture without enhancing it” 😂😂😂😂
2:25 Yeah like putting a snow mountain in the middle of a desert HAHAHA still remember that ✌🏻.
Being that I’m from the Toronto area, I’ve been a longtime fan of Peter McKinnon.
But I got to say I’ve been really enjoying the videos you’ve been releasing the past year.
Refreshing good content!
I made a video about Instagram on my channel. I got disgusted with the amount of AI images appearing in my feed. Especially when it started showing AI generated images of same gender children age range 5-10 in sexually suggestive activity. Also AI generated people replacing actual models for clothing ad's. I am pretty much done with Instagram. Used to be about photography and travel. Now it's getting as bad as tictok .
Says more about you lol
@@knottage I reported and blocked them.
The pacing of the video is impeccable as always Mr McKinnon. Thanks for the quality content. Loved it.
I see more deep dive documentaries in you future. 🎉
This reminds me when some countries required photos published in magazines that were touched by photoshop to have a label of Retouched.
The further I move back into film, the less I care
This is like when Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior teamed up at Summer Slam in ‘91.
I’m here for every second of it.
Tbh I am glad they’re tagging things this way. Unrealistic standards haven’t been good for society in general, and I think we could all benefit from more authenticity
Then label “edited” or something to that effect, not “made with AI” which is incorrect, deceptive, & misrepresents artists’ honest contributions.
@@trippy6183 oh yeah I agree with you here - I just meant labeling in general is a good thing I think!
Oh wow. They definitely need to bring that film back. Awesomeness!!
For any digital photographers who are reading this and want to do photography in the style of aerochrome you have two good options.
You can get an IR conversion for your camera which will cost around 300-400 USD, then you will need liveview or mirrorless because you'll have issues in the viewfinder, you will have to correct white balance, and you will potentially have IR hotspots with some lenses. And then you need to swap the R and B color channels.
Or you can use your image editing software, I use darktable, to hue shift 180 degrees and then swap the R and B color channels.
We 100% need “Made with Ai” tag.
I have never watched a video and thought about purchasing something that was hawked during the video... Until today. The Ridge stuff was pretty cool. Got to get me some!
I understand what you’re saying. Now when you have all your creative editing, they are given the credit to the computer. Not cool. Great job on your videos. I always watch to see if I could pick up something that I can use to help with mine.
It's going to generate a huge level of distrust within the fishing community where we often blur or replace backgrounds to keep locations hidden. A lot of people will assume the size of the fish is altered or is fake as a whole.
tbh instagram picked in 2015 anything beyond that is a junky mess. I use Vero but none of my friends do so its a bit meh.
What a cool video! That film bit was so neat I had to share with my dad who is a hardcore film guy! Thanks for this!
The comments on reels be insane 😭💀
« AI indicators » are probably metadata in the picture when it’s exported by a software.
Just screenshot your picture or export it again, or delete the metadata and « AI pictures » wouldn’t be automatically tagged.
Jason is THAT GUY. Solid Channel, Great dad to Baxter.
Salute to you for the way you make your videos. it's so engaging and creative. Keep it up!!
As a wedding photographer this is FANTASTIC!!! People have been scamming clients by posting AI generated photos. This helps show people that the work some of us do is 100% us.
I haven’t seen the tag yet but I will be looking.
I’m all for it. Great shots BTW.
Pete, your beautiful shots and the "bangers" from INFRA look like a world painted by Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band!!! Chef's kiss!!!
When it comes to censorship (especially regarding Gaza) then yes it’s gone too far.
I love this! Editing is not photography. Complete noob here, I hardly even look at my photos when I've taken them. Seeing them through the viewfinder after they are taken is about as much magic as I can take
Time to ditch Insta and move to Vero.
Foto app you mean 😉
It's amazing to see two of my fav youtubers in the same video ! what is this? A cross-over episode ?
Solid gold proof that you only need to do one unique thing and keep doing it, and pretty soon, the rewards will come. Imagine all those new subscribers Grainy Days is gonna get...! Loving how Pete is sharing the love lately ✌️
I love seeing @grainydaysss getting his flowers. One of the best photography channelsss out there!
It is what it is.
It will be cool to see some people going back to the roots of photography and keeping it original.
Pretty cool film Peter! One of my biggest complaints trying to shoot photos here in New Jersey during the summer is that everything is 'green' and just the lack of color in most scenery. Pretty cool! Thanks for sharing...
The gap between reality and artificial reality is getting closer and closer, and yet, in the same spirit, further and further away.
I love it.
Let's make the gap immense: there are photos and videos that capture reality as it was, and those that adjust reality. I want to know when something is in one camp or the other.
And the wider the gap between, I hope, the more likely people and companies are to create new/more tools for capturing reality in the moment. A return to analog to match the emergence of digital.
Your film examples are such a great illustration of what's possible.
Instagram goes from bad to worse and this is not different. Thanks for the video. Love aerochrome!
I hate when good youtubers become so popular, that their editing becomes too fast paced and obnoxious and they think this is "great quality" video producing. Please, keep it simple, stop trying to gives anxiety with your flashy, misplaced editing. Like, how many cuts in one video do you need? what are you trying to hide? that is such a lazy way of trying to make videos more engaging.
Man I always love your videos, always a treat
I’m happy Jason is featured on this video
Great video Pete, back to your older style which is uplifting and inspiring!!
Your'e not crazy, you drink to much coffee! I should know, I do too 🤣 Banger episode. Thanks Pete. (no "Pwhat's up!" ?)
I haven’t seen that film for a minute!!! Thanks for the memories.
Awewhhhhh, you sent the roll to your friend, that's sweet. And I just can't stop learning from you.
Great that you latched onto Infra. An incredible piece of work.
Jason will surely appreciate this roll of film after all chugging all the Dew 😂
Few days ago I was doing an “experiment” on Instagram. Was posting a story with the new feature, where the story is hidden and you have to write back something to show the story. Tbh I don’t have any big followers list - but was no surprise to see that only 2 people actually was doing the “effort” to see the actual content of the story. How is this linked to your discussion here? Well, I think we are becoming so disconnected that will not actually matter the AI or non ai label. Sad, for me at least because I am not that much into reel-💩
I've been shooting digital infrared photography since 2015 and I don't think I've ever seen anyone with legit Aerochrome before. Very cool.
A company called Kolarivision, which began as an IR-conversion company for digital cameras, created an "IR Chrome" filter to use with full-spectrum conversions that gives you the Aerochrome look right out of the camera.
Normally, there'd be a lot of editing and channel swapping to get the sky blue, leaves pink/red, etc.
Their filter is the easiest way to do it, but you can get close using a regular filter (I think yellow worked best on my camera, but I'd have to check), then doing some light editing.
That original magenta photo on the expired film is awesome. No need for including clouds. Nice work!
The funny part is my photos are too big for Instagram anyway when they are raw
Them photos thooooooo !!! Soooo good !!!!
Tinder should adopt the "Made with AI" prompt... 🤣
Very pleased to see that you’re sending a roll of Aerochrome to Jason. He deserves it. That was a very nice gesture Pete. ❤
Instagram is a hot mess right now. I'm a bladesmith that mostly makes kitchenware, and their AI has told almost all of us doing this work that we're offensive and our work can't be shown to non followers... Their overreaching is going to be the downfall of their app...
Hey Pete, have you considered shooting digital infrared? There is a conversion which removes certain filters thereby allowing your camera to capture in infrared. Also there is a full spectrum conversion which gives more versatility with infrared.
Would like to see videos of you taking pics and filming with film. The process instead of just the results. Those film pics are amazing
It’s about time you highlighted grainy days Peter. I knew it was only a matter of time.
Remember when every photographer was "leaving" IG for Twitter and......Vero??
I bet you already forgot Vero existed lmao
Pete...... you're awesome. I can't wait to see the video from Jason.
Noticed your "Little Sheep (Dibé Yázhi)" by Mark Maggiori at 6:38! I've got the same one :)! Great taste as always.
I literally thought about making a video about this a month ago too! I kept getting comments in some of my videos about using AI which to support a joke an broll, and was recieving lots of flack about it. Awesome video man!
Hey Pete, could you do a video on your photo books? I’ve always been wanting to get into them but never know here to start.
I really enjoy this! Felt like I was having a conversation with you rather than just watching a video.
It's probably making use of the meta data that photoshop adds to the image file once you use generative fill on it. I'm sure there are ways to remove that, at the most basic level you can just screenshot your edited pictures and save them in paint or whatever.
