Prices going up is the EXACT opposite of what HD needs to be doing. They have dealers filled with 2024s they couldn’t sell at a cheaper price. Good luck trying to sell bikes at an even higher price.

Hahaha, Harley's braindead board is bankrupting the company and will not come back this time. HD needs to drop $5k AUD off each bike to even begin to hope to grow sales. Dead company walking.

Considering most dealers are up to their eyeballs with 'new' inventory going back 1-4 years, them raising prices is a truly brilliant idea, from their not at all braindead management/board. I had some interest in the Pan America, but I am not going to pay a HD premium for a bike not made in the us.

HD is so greedy they raise the prices of none-US built motorcycles as well. Here in Australia, each year, they add $2-3k to bikes that receive absolutely no updates.
Guess what? At the end of the year, they end up discounting up to $10k on new bikes just to get rid of them.
The issue is their image is that of a company that will try to fleece you of as much dough as they can if you are not savvy.

You must care. You looked at the title of the video and commented.
I have owned many bikes. You buy a Japanese bike for the engine reliability. The suspension and brakes are usually a standard grade.
You buy German for the status and the upgrade on the components suspension, electronics, brakes.
Italian for the looks, heritage, power, mixed reliability. A quality piece with expensive cost.
The Harley you buy for status, the ride, the customizable options.
Harley is quite frankly different experience. They do things to help their communities, run charitable events, organize poker rides. Plus give you quality clothing options to wear. Ya its at a cost, ya the bikes are expensive. However, No other brand does this like Harley. Maybe Indian now? I haven't own one of those yet.
Ya, I have a Harley. I also have two other bikes. I have had many other brands. There is no perfect brand. Or one bike that does it all. I bought an Adventure bike thinking that.😂
I myself, being from the west. Would pay more for a bike made and assembled in the west. I'm tired of outsourced labour practices. If western companies.
Hey, life's short buy what you want and what you can afford. Mostly a bike you can live with.

Most of the parts I'll be buying will be from non-Harley companies and I will take my bikes to local shops for service and upgrades. As far as bikes being built to the same specifications being the same ... that theory was proven false years ago when Ford and Chevy started building cars and trucks in Mexico (cheaper labor and less environmental rules) and they are garbage compared to the same make/model made in the states.

    • @davidbrayshaw3529
      @davidbrayshaw3529 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

Ford and Chevy. Say no more. Manufacturing offshore all comes down to the way that the processes are managed and, of course, what investment businesses are prepared to
make in regards of plant, materials and staff training. If you reckon that Mexicans and Thais can't make a product that equals or exceeds the quality of any other nation's products in this day and age, you're kidding yourself. It's 2024. If you reckon that companies such as Ford, Chevy and perhaps Harley Davidson aren't going to invest enough into producing those products, then you're probably right.
This has nothing to do with where goods are manufactured, it has everything to do with the businesses that manage the process. Ford and Chevy have a long history of making rubbish products on US soil. Toyota and Honda, on the other hand, seem to be able to make quality products in factories located around the globe. Go figure. It's not where this stuff is built, it's who's running the show that makes the difference.

Just the mexican.

@@christopherw4527 My whole point is that someone signed off on that. Someone in corporate said "She'll be right, it'll last the warranty period".
Mexican made 5h!t design, German made 5h!t design, Japanese made 5h!t design.
It doesn't matter. Rubbish is rubbish.
And maybe a contemporary vehicle made in another plant incorporates different processes. There could be all reasons for that. Skills, the availability of materials, plant... whatever.
But General Motors Detroit signed off on the design and that process of the Mexican made Chevy.
A bit like Mercedes Benz Germany signed off on the design and processes that built my South African made C230 Kompressor.
It was a rubbish car. Not because it had been manufactured in South Africa, but because ' Benz cheaped out.
There's a Mazda and a Suzuki in my drive way, at the moment. The Kawasaki is in the shed. There's a reason for that.

Harley’s have been made with parts from all over the world for years now. I think a lot of buyers outside of the USA don’t really care much, as long as the quality is still there, and that the price reflects that. I think the big issue is that Union job have been moved offshore and prices have still increased. It also worth noting that it’s not just the RevMax models that have gone to Thailand, it’s all models made for the market outside of the USA.

FYI. Yesterday I stopped in my local HD dealership. They still had at least 50 2024's on the floor and they are motivated sellers. I was told the Road Glide will go up $2K. The Street Glide will go up $500. The guy that owns this one owns 8 others. I was told by the owner he was not going to take the Nightster, Sportster S or Pan America for 2025. He told me they are poor sellers. He also said the bikes would no longer be made in America and the price drop on these now foreign bikes was very very small. So he wants nothing to do with them. If dealers are able to opt out of these bikes, I think this is the end of them.

Mate, folks that bought a Pan America between 2021-23, made/assembled in the USA, will know about the shoddy workmanship at the USA factory. Main battery ground cable becoming dislodged from the vehicle, gear shifter bolts coming lose and falling off, and then a bunch of bolts (eg. holding the crash bars, radiator fan) being miss-threaded, wiring harness cables being pinched, wiring harness connectors not properly plugged in/seated. I say, bring Thailand on, because QA and employee care at the USA factory leaves a lot to be desired, generally speaking.

The brand image was once strong. Iconic, rebellious and 'in your face'. It was HOG that drew the crowds, with rallies and events that were excellently done at first. And then the costs started creeping in, gaps appeared and people realised they were just being played. Today, everyone of that era is a decade older & time has moved on. Loud exhausts and crowding on the roads aren't welcome, and in fact scowled upon these days. Hardly a recipe for high sales, even without the eye watering prices and old fashioned weighty machinery. The world has changed, and we're lucky to still do this crazy hobby these days, but not at Harley's price point. Bring back the good looking Sportster I say. But second hand values will also fall if the brand falls into disrepute, and it's a slippery slope for the mad consumerist rebels..

Motorbikes are made in factories, mostly by cnc machines and robotised production lines, just like everything else. Shipping machinery from the other side of the world pretty much evaporates any savings that might be made in cheaper labour costs. Foreign manufacturers already use cheaper, non-union, American labour to skirt import tariffs, and the American working class - just like the English, keep voting against their better interests - not really surprising considering some 41% are functionally illiterate.

I wanted (demand) the 2023 Pan America (supply), and I paid a premium to have that bike. Supply and demand are how things work in a free market.
Was the premium worth it? Yes. Did it have anything to do with being American assembled? Of course. But, that was the least of the considerations.
Moving U.S. jobs over-seas was a political faux pas... HD will hardly survive the error, well that and going woke!
If prices do not drop considerably, HD is dead as a door nail... U.S. made or not.

A british guy passing judgment on an American company over prices of a motorcycle. We all know HD isn't "American Made". Most if not all parts are sourced from various countries. Most are also assembled in various countries. Big deal. British bikes are far worse when it comes to quality vs cost. British bikes suck ass. People will spend money on Harley Davidson for one reason....the badass history and styling. HD is made in various countries because theirs demand for them, not too many people in Thailand screaming for a BSA or Triumph and not too many people in Britian screaming for Hondas. HD's reputation for classic styling is what sells their bikes. We sure know it isnt the fuckin quality unless its 2011-2015 twin cam big touring bikes. The only real strong years for the bigger bikes.

I only want an American made bike. If it’s Harley it has to be American made, but that German CEO. Has got to go. Not because he is German but because he’s a woke weak leader taking the company down.

Harley Davidson make machines. What does a machine care if the CEO is woke?
Your comment says more about you than it does about the CEO.
Buy your shitty Harley and ride it…freedom!!!

HD almost died when Reagan was around. 'Wokeness' is just an excuse people make. HD is cooked because boomers are dying and anyone with any sensibility knows the bikes are crap and ain't worth it

    The Motor Company ltd.
    hmmmmm...
'Off-shore and browning' seems to be the smart biz-growth move today.
The die-hard "jingo" market will be there as long as "those" make enough money to pay the freight. Many true believers will bend the knee to usury finance to meet that bill.
I don't know if there is a long game here.
