Why do 25% on everything? That's plain stupid, EU is playing chess, putting tariffs on what could be considered luxury products, so the low income class won't be much effected by it. And in the same time, you craft your tariffs in a way, that it will hurt those who imposed those tariffs, by targeting the donors of the parties responsible, because that's the language they understand. If it hits their pockets, they are less likely to want a trade war. And if the US placed a tariff on foreign aluminum, why isn't it fair to place a tariff on products from the US using aluminum?
So basically what you're saying is that it is ok for the United States to put tariffs on the EU but it's not ok for us to do it back. Sounds about right. Here in the UK the cheapest Harley is the Sportster S and that costs £14,695. Then of course there is delivery and registration etc so call it £15,000+. Now, how many younger or new riders can afford that kind of money when starting out. Dealers over here are closing in their droves because Harley HQ is putting too many demands on them and also the bikes aren't selling because nobody can afford them anymore. And of course it's not just the initial cost is it. There's all the ancillaries that goes with buying a Harley. That price suddenly goes up by another few thousands. What Harley should have done years ago is look at how others do it by introducing smaller capacity machines like what Royal Enfield and CF Moto are doing now. But of course Harley know best don't they. NOT!!! As such their global sales are plummeting faster than they can produce bikes, and if I am honest, it serves them right for marketing to such a niche community and I dare say it won't be long before they go by way of the Dodo.
I did not say it was fair for the US to impose Tariffs but I did say was 56% was too much. HD has tried smaller CC bikes and they have failed at them here and abroad, remember the Street 500... They are still trying thru partnerships in China and India.
I completely agree and for information I have never seen a modern sportster on the roads in England. They are dull and the build quality is not up to Chinese standards
Dont forget the disparity of cost between US and European bikes with special edition models paint schemes , the 120 yr anniversary paint cost around $600 in the USA , Harley Europe made us pay an additional £6400 , they repeated this with the fast Johnnie bikes list in UK was £34K for Road glide version matters made worse by the fact its not even paint its just a decal set.
They should have kept the Street 500 and 750. Even though they didnt do well a decade ago, people would most certainly be buying them now. Lots of sub-1000cc bikes are popular in the US right now. They could have had something as popular as the Triumph Speed 400
India has high tariffs on nearly all products produced outside of the country. As for the EU tariffs, Harley screwed themselves with the language in their own SEC filings. However the real issue has been that Harley failed to diversify their line up even with decades of market research showing a consumer shift to lower priced offerings. At times it looked like they were willing to blame owners of Harley motorcycles but the real truth is the board is incompetent and has been for well over a decade. BMW successfully expanded their line up in the 80s with their inline fours and have since gone on to cover nearly every category of motorcycle and engine configuration. Harley needs to do the same and if that means importing foreign made bikes then so be it. Just make sure they have the quality people want. The idea that they cannot do this is silly because right now they import a Chinese designed and Chinese built motorcycle with a Harley badge slapped on for their riding academy. If that wasn't a line not to be crossed I don't know what is. I would not do Chinese bikes but India and Thailand would be fine. Harley must design the bikes from the ground up though and not just put their badge on a bike designed by others.
you dont live in the eu,we pay more tax on everything, when you pay for a gallon,we get one liter, think you idiot, the two percent ultra rich wins everywhere
Triumph makes most of its motorcycles in Thailand i suspect purely because it is cheaper and less employment laws to navigate. I think Harleys problem is that the current designers are not attuned to the sense of style that Harley always had unlike Willie G Davidson who was raised on it. Start building cool bikes again and people will find the money somewhere.
My suggestion, and I live in Spain and suffer this stupid trade war, I’ll suggest Harley to have an assembly plant either jn South Europe or Hungary/Check Rep and build Harleys there, come to an agreement with the EU.
Trumps 25% tariff on Canadian imports is going to kill Harley sales in Canada when Canada retaliates with it's own 25% tariff in return. No way I'm paying 25% more for a new Streetglide here in Canada when one already has a price tag of $34000.
Remember the HD board replaced the last guy with "their guy". It's obvious they are going to stick with this guy even after the DEI backlash. Get used to it. All liquid cooled/ mid-sized bikes are made overseas. All air-cooled / big bikes are made here. Effectively splitting the company in two. Not only tariffs but EU economy (slower covid rebound than USA) EU emissions requirements and less new riders in all segments aren't helping either. They will never make in house a small bike- under 300cc. Just a rebranded / slap a sticker on someone else's bike. The day the HD board and CEO go to one of the 3 big rallies and get - in their face - feedback will be when they turn the MoCo around. Not holding my breath though. Sadly, they don't even listen to their dealers / front line people who are dedicating their life's work for the company.
that would be that American last guy then Levatich , the one who moved production to Thailand because that other American guy (Trump ) started a trade war
At the end of the day, the consumers and the manufacturers suffer. It would be fair game to impose similar or higher tattifs on European motorcycles as a negotiating tactic.
The Harley-Davidson's in EU are made in Thailand... The EU doesn't care what Mr. Blondi is shouting or shouting from stalls, you can wait for all import items from China to become more expensive.
Tariffs are the most wonderful things in the world according to the President elect. How could they possibly be a bad thing for anyone. Don't believe what this guy says. Americans voted for their own tariffs and we don't mind paying any $price. Go Trump/Musk!!!!!

Tariffs are killing Harley Davidson outside of America. In Australia a low rider S is about $32,000 in Thailand even though I think some of them are made here it sells for $50,000. It’s very difficult to pay $50,000 for something you know is worth approximately $32,000. I would hate to see how cheap it is in America.
As an American... who cares? With the abundant choices i would not buy one if i lived out of the USA. Kawasaki all the way! Love my concours14! And my ultra classic. Any my yamaha warrior1700.
First things first Britain is not in the EU anymore . The tariffs were imposed in retaliation to tariffs being imposed on iron/steel and aluminium imports from the EU this has added costs on American products and are as dumb as the tariffs on HD and a few other products made in republican states. The thing is Harley are about 6% and falling of the market over here which is dominated by the big four Japanese manufacturers . The other problem is Harley are prioritising motorcycles that are a very small part of the market big touring bikes aren’t that popular and the one bike that really appeals to the EU market the Sportglide they have done their hardest to kill off without dropping it from the range no 114 engine and the two colours available are primer grey and vivid black . I would love the tariffs to be lifted but sadly can see more being imposed as the incoming US government presidency appears to be relying on them to make America great again.
the main problem is the information is over 3 years out of date EU and USA reached agreement in october 2021 Harley even released a statement , the tarrifs were reduced to 6% from 31% effective Jan 2022 channel just wants to stoke anti eu ?rest of world sentiments amongst the Maga crowd .

Maybe Harley isn't making what other countries want? They lost sales here too. It's not because of Tariffs. They have to move with the times and they don't. The Leadership at Harley is interested in the bottom line, not the consumer. Build a better product and people will pay the premium. Not every manufacturer is having this issue. The Blame is on Harley and Harley alone
@RidingintheOzarks what about Honda? What about Triumph? Maybe KTM needs better management? Reagan Saved Harley back in the 80s cause they couldn't compete on a Level field. So they Cheated. Truth be told Harley should've diversified decades ago and didn't because they sit on their Laureles and use their customers as Pawns. Now they're on a Level field again and cannot Compete. These are Facts. Bad Management will ruin every company no matter how long it's been around. Look at Sears?
The "Motor Company" lost me for good when they obsoleted vital hydraulic brake parts for my beloved EVO. I saw it as an extortion attempt to make me buy new. BTW FU HD, I developed my own workaround: I replaced the obsoleted remote rear reservoir and that obsoleted prebent hose and brake cylinder with a 2006-up HD brake cylinder. Upon reading this, the geniuses will probably stop making those. Soon, Jochen the Destroyer will add 4 more engine variants to the 35-engine lineup made since 1999. Maybe they will someday, get it right again.
Harleys are a comedy bike in europe. Its not the tariffs it the huge expense for what is a one trick pony. America is learning that if you impose tariffs, tariffs get imposed back. Stop the childish behaviour and we'll stop as well. Your whines about tariffs apply right back at you.
Why does everybody think there’s going to be a 25% tariff placed on everything coming to the US? It’s going to be very strategic, just like the one before. I remember being worried about Trump spiking a trade war several years back. The so-called economic experts ‘AND’ the media telling us this strategy would never work and create a full-blown trade war. But in actuality, the US made millions from these tariffs. These tariffs create huge tax incentives for US manufacturers to make the subject products right here in the US spurring job growth and reducing costs for everyone. Corporations will be incentivized to produce goods here, and in exchange will have their corporate tax rate reduced from 21% to 15%. Remember this.. they said the wall would never work to tamper illegal immigration🤔 Be mindful what you hear in the media, including these social media posts. There will always be haters and doubters.
I think you got this all wrong. Trump explained its the exporting countries that pay the tariffs. So it’s Americans who pay the tariffs for bikes exported to the EU. Ask Trump, he will explain it to you.
Yes Harley is paying the Tariff (tax) which they have to pass on the consumer driving up retail prices in these countries. I think you misunderstood me or i didn’t explain it well. The EU is the one charging and collecting the tax.
@@RidingintheOzarks oh, so the Trump tarifs of 25% on Canadian and Mexican goods, like oil, electricity, alluminium, steel and everything, does that mean it will be passed on to American consumers to pay the increased prices? That’s gonna hurt pretty badly no ?
Unless that company chooses to eat the 25% and make less money I would assume so, I don't think HD can eat 56%...I am more knowledgeable on HD and for years people in foriegn markets have been telling me how expensive HD was in their country due to the tariffs.
hes got it wrong because the information is 3 years out of date Harley even put out a press release to the effect that tarriff issue with USA and EU had been resolved in 2021 and tarrifs were just 6% on motorcycle imports from Jan 2022

@ the U.S. is one of the only countries in the world with the capability of being self sufficient- food, fresh water, energy, education, tech - no other country even comes close. We can absolutely build factories and build whatever we need.

lol, if harley wasn't propped up by US tariffs on foreign bikes it'd be dead for 40 years
That sums up the truth in a nutshell, well said
So basically what you're saying is that it is ok for the United States to put tariffs on the EU but it's not ok for us to do it back.
Very well said sir
Not sure what your comment has to do with tariffs, which is the topic here, but you do you.
No they wouldn’t - they failed then and would fail now just like the rev max bikes. Many dealers aren’t even going to offer them in 2025.
We should impose tariff’s. We’re already in over a trillion dollar trade deficit.
you dont live in the eu,we pay more tax on everything, when you pay for a gallon,we get one liter, think you idiot, the two percent ultra rich wins everywhere
the eu tarif was only put in place after usa taxes against eu import. and , if i'm not misleading, hd ask for tarif against competitors in the 80/90.
@@jimscarnivorekitchen4731 and so should the EU against all US made products.
All Canada has to do is prevent drugs and Illegal aliens from crossing into U.S. and there will be no tariffs.
Other than oil- Canada is mostly irrelevant to the U.S.
No. Harley has been killing itself for decades by refusing to change and go after a younger and poorer market.
nobody in the eu buys your claim that harley is something special, here it's just an overpriced pos motorcycle
At the end of the day, the consumers and the manufacturers suffer. It would be fair game to impose similar or higher tattifs on European motorcycles as a negotiating tactic.
This is already a reaction to tariffs. Retaliation will only lead to more tariffs and a reduction in spending power for the normal people.
Woke CEO os killing Harley
Hmmm.....an entire video about tariffs and Harley Davidson and no mention of Ronald Reagan? IDK. No reason the president elect should be afraid of anything, WE will pay for the trade war, not him.
Did you watch the whole thing? I didn’t mention RR but did mention those tariffs…
Wow, Mike, are you now the new spokesperson for Harley-Davidson now, really?
I’m reporting on News that affects them like the financial and I think 56% is wrong when the Japanese pay 6%. Not sure how that makes me their spokesperson…
@RidingintheOzarks yes Mike i do agree, and it doesn't look like Trump is going to help
@@michaelpulice6100 the high tariffs ended in jan 2022 following agreement between usa and eu to end the trade war trump started Harley even issued a press release to celebrate this not difficult to find at all so its not news at all but old out of date information
@scooternut7198 Yes, I knew that Mr. scooternut, lol 😆 I just wanted to mildly harass Mike from riding in the Ozarks. It seems he has a members only page, and he has been getting free stuff from vendors and hawking their stuff, nothing personal
@@michaelpulice6100 no offence taken , so he sells the free stuff he gets ?
In the last months, I’ve been looking for a CVO Road Glide ST, nowhere to be found in EU, all out while in the US stocks are there…having an assembly plant might add some flexibility on stock management.
Owned and loved my '06 Warrior, best bike I've ever had and so underappreciated, Connie is my next bike, ride safe bro
Trump did that to HD
No crying allowed when you, the customer, get stuck paying for the tariffs. The president elect won’t feel the pain like the average American, i.e. you.
President musk surely will not feel the pain
Why don’t Harley diversify and build some cool small bikes ? I can imagine a lot of proud 17 year olds in Europe with a 125cc Harley .A lot of guys willing to spend big on bikes start young .Harleys is like a cult in Europe ,die hard fans usually . Because Harley is so expensive .And all the sports bike guys call them tractors 🚜jaguar Land Rover is owned by India’s Tata.
Street 500 & 750 failed, they are branding 350 and 440’s in Asia with other companies.
@@RidingintheOzarks I here what you are saying but the little bikes will fail because like the 500 and 750 they will be butt ugly if they would take the the time to make a good looking dependable bike at a fair price, they may stand a chance. But their pure greed will bankrupt them
@ I’d imagine the 350 will be very popular in Asia I know theirs a Harley scene in Thailand .
Sure KTM is doing great lol.
@RidingintheOzarks what about Honda?

And now EU governments are collapsing.
About as much as U.S every year
MAGA !!!
Remember this.. they said the wall would never work to tamper illegal immigration🤔
Be mindful what you hear in the media, including these social media posts.
Unless that company chooses to eat the 25% and make less money I would assume so, I don't think HD can eat 56%...I am more knowledgeable on HD and for years people in foriegn markets have been telling me how expensive HD was in their country due to the tariffs.
hes got it wrong because the information is 3 years out of date Harley even put out a press release to the effect that tarriff issue with USA and EU had been resolved in 2021 and tarrifs were just 6% on motorcycle imports from Jan 2022
perfect irony. is it the same guy explaining you must drink desinfectant to kill covid???
USA 🇺🇸 is #1 for a reason regardless I like your input on the situation 👍
If they are experiencing tariffs in the EU I would absolutely start a tariff war if I were Trump. It will hurt Europe way more than it hurts us. We have the most important economy in the world and are one of the only economies that could be almost completely self sustaining if we chose that route.
Ypu are really funny, USA self-sufficient, you certainly, you forget where everything comes from, what's on the store shelves. How blind can you be...
@ the U.S. is one of the only countries in the world with the capability of being self sufficient- food, fresh water, energy, education, tech - no other country even comes close. We can absolutely build factories and build whatever we need.
when you don't know the history...
1st🤙
The solution is simple, apply a 56% import tariff on ALL EU motorcycles and cars unless they drop their 56% tariff.
problem is the poster is misleading you the tarrifs were reduced from 31% to 6% in january 2022 following an agreement between USA and EU
when the tax on hd is a answer to us tax on eu product...
Lets make it fair and apply the same tariffs on every import from EU. Lets force them to negotiate, don't you think? I am willing to evaluate my options on whatever is produced here, right? But the whole world knows that there is value on that Harley or Indian that even with some parts made elsewhere, are made in USA, designed biased on the American bike culture, period. (not degrading on any way every other bike brands that are actually awesome )IMHO. Thanks.
