Same here in Belgium, prices of harley davidson have skyrocketted the last few years. And dealers are struggling to sell anything. The dealership closest to me is sitting on inventory from 2022 and upwards. The bikes are just too expensive.
Same here in Australia. We get Thailand made bikes for the price of US made ones. Not sure what tariffs or customs we have but it kicks like Harley has been double dipping.
If Harley had been honest actors in all this they might have a point but they had the bike manufactured in Thailand but didn't reduce the price to reflect the lower costs; if they had reduced their prices they might have won their case in the EU court. Their profits are taken to an American company which (hopefully) pays its taxes in America. Harley could import directly into the UK but they won't and if they did you can be sure that the tariffs would remain anyway. It might even make things worse for us, as UK owners might be required to go through an import process when taking their bikes to Europe for holidays. My 2022 Road King was priced at £16000. The £21,500 I paid was due to UK VAT, duties, registration fees etc. That's about a 34% 'tax rate' AFTER import!
Are prices reduced by UK and EU motorcycle company products that are made in the far east and India? KTM, Triumph BMW etc? Maybe if all EU bikes were made in the EU then prices would be higher but the customer could feel more loyalty to the brand and proud ownership. Moto Guzzi still made in Italy with Italian parts? When will people learn that imported good means exported jobs until they are rich and we are poor enough for them to build their products here.
But if the ‘all American bike’ is actually built by the cheap Thai labour then of course the tax is made on point of import and just because Harley try saying it’s red white n blue 😂😂😂😂. You may be able to fool customers ( easily done hence the money customers pay for the things ) but the tax man is a different thing
Harley is killing itself. But back to tariffs, it works both ways and if EU tariff are high for HD, then 'tough titties'. Then there's what I personally call the USA 'underground tariffs'. Australia with the USA (and with a bunch of other countries) has a free trade agreement, which sounds great and is promoted as there being no tariffs between the 2 countries on the listed products. So, our farmers are able to exports certain crops and products to the USA with no tariffs (and vice versa). But, what a number of the scum-bag USA States did, in order to protect their farmers, they introduced State duties/levies/local taxes/whatever on the Aussie products which effectively defeats the objective of the free-trade agreement and making the Aussie products more expensive. Hence, 'underground' because you don't see the State duties from an import/export perspective. Life wasn't meant to be easy so HD has to suck it up and live with that reality, there are tariffs in certain countries and the USA reaps what it sews, and the currency value of the tariffs would be less on each bike if the price of the bike was lower in the first place. And, BTW, our Aussie dumb politicians and highly paid clueless public servants, didn't have the brains to include a clause in the free-trade agreement that if any USA local taxes were specifically applied to the Aussie products then the equivalent in tariffs would be applied to imports from the USA.
Well Done E.U. Your market, so your rules. If HD want to sell their laughable obese turd trolleys wrapped up in the USA flag, they should pay the tariffs and duties irrespective of where they are built. HD pricing is beyond a ripoff and not passing on manufacturing cost savings to the customer is not just taking the piss; it's taking a kidney as well.
Buy a Guzzis, buy a Triumph, , buy a Gold wing, buy an Indian, buy a Beemer or a big Kwacker or a Yamaha or a Hayabusa if you want to really show who's the boss.
Change, improve, evolve, ...realize the need for competitive pricing as well as good bikes? The Motor Company is stiff-necked. It's a tradition. Hell, it may be policy... I reckon we're about to see what the EU market for HD will bear, and in what earnest will buyers pony-up? The hard core will still drink the Kool-Aide, buy the merch, and dream about the bar fights, they're, unknowingly, lucky to have missed. Is The Motor Company moving towards a "bespoke" product line? I have owned too many bikes, and, specifically, enough Harleys... I've ridden in one Maybach and one Bentley. Those experiences informed me that The Motor Company is a long way from letting one choose the finest cowhide for one's new CVO plush seating. And the floorboards of Tiger Maple or Purple Heart... don't get them started. Please. Tariffs are international bargaining chips for countries wanting fair trade agreements. As you infer, a new POTUS, his penchant for threatening to wield tariffs, and a fresh national attitude (USA) will add another layer to H-D's torte. Let's hope the outcome is sweet for all players.
I still cannot understand who would pay the ridiculous amount of money for what Harley charges;they are killing themselves.

Might explain why H-D profits are up when their sales are down?

Come January, I would not be surprised to see these trade arrangements with the US change. In Canada are politician's are in full panic .
In any case the price of some models is ridiculous high. Glide CVO + 50k€. Compare with Gold Wing 30k€ nothing to do
And where is that goldwing made? The goldwings we get in the US are roughly the same price as an HD.

non stop greed
I’ve bought 4 new Harley’s the last 2 years and let me tell ya the prices have not gone down 3 from Thailand and the trike from the USA
Typical capitalist greed, let them go bust
So Thai worker get's American pay. That's settled then.. Right?

Wise words!
What tariffs are charged for European product into the US. Mr Trump started this in his last stint as supreme leader, didn’t he?
No he didnt. In the 80's the U.S. Government put a tariff on Japanese made motorcycles over 700cc.
All to protect Harley Davidson.
Its a mess but as we're not in the E.U. anymore then hopefully the U.S. will give the U.k. a better trade deal and stuff the E.U.
So expect Trump to do the same on your chit sent here.
talented businessman not
@@frankfurther3828 The EU is doing so well they need to charge Hardly how much? lol
They already did. It was the tariffs on EU steel and aluminum in 2016 imposed by Trump…
The ,,great'' Trump started the tariff war when he started to make America great again, lmao...keep voting for him!
@@Thombable Thats how it works. Harris by 3...lol...
