Uncle Salty, you pushed me over the edge on this model. I was already looking at it, then yt suggested your videos. I found one with sound from the bay. It needed a little tlc. I was having issues where it would stop go stop go, I swapped in a BCR, so seems it was a battery issue. I also had issues where it would derail, I found that on left turns the front truck would swing into a low hanging compressor nodule on fireman’s side, I ground that down a smidge. I also installed traction tires, kind of a bear to get on the front drive axle, but got it done. We are now cruising reliably around the ceiling layout. Hope you’re doing good, look forward to your videos.
Im super happy how it turned out and especially hearing your reactions. After working on your Niagra really makes me want to try to find one for my fleet. I distinctly remember seeing a Williams Niagra on some of the TM shows I watched as a kid. Happy model railroading Matt!
If you look at old issues of OGR, everybody had one. Trainz has them pop up every now and again as well as brasstrains.com. $300-350 is as high as I would go on one of these however. I'll keep an eye out.
Wow, looks and sounds great. I was recently lucky enough to pick up one of these at a show for a bargain. Ran great on a friends layout, but it’s a bit dusty and grimy. Any ideas on what it would be safe to clean it with? I’m going to try and see how much I can get off this weekend with brushes and canned air, but I’m trying to figure out what else would be safe to use on the painted brass if that’s not enough.
@RailfanS1 The shell comes off with three srcrews, and a plug for the headlight if really dirty. I use an automotive quick detail spray on mine. (Safe for paint) Spray lightly on a clean cloth wipe gently....30+ years old and all! Don't get the deatailer on the coal load though
Thanks for the tip. Finally got the time to clean it today, the detailing spray worked great. Got it in the display case in the living room for now, someday I hope to have somewhere to run it. But for now I can take it to my brothers layout down the road.

@@jimh_vta Thanks! Those traction tires are a bear to replace 😳
It really sounds great now! Guarantee your father is smiling down!! What a difference Matt! 💯🤩
Thanks Frank! Considering this loco has been around me longer than the Chevelle, it really changes the dynamic. Couldn't be happier!
Awesome!
Very Cool👍🔥🙏💪❤️

Wasn’t it running on one of Clarke Dunham’s layouts Nikolas?
@@huntercoleman460 yes. There was also one on Lou Pulumbo's layout.

Nikolas did a great job Matt.
You like TM videos Matt?
I do. I told Nikolas I met Tom Snyder multiple times. He worked with my father. Super train nerds!
@@UncleSalty-nz5uk he met Tom McComas and I met his son Jeff. You showed your kids I Love Toy Trains?
@@huntercoleman460 No kids. I do have a stepdaughter these days, but she's 21
And I do like TM books and video
@@UncleSalty-nz5uk interested in my 4th of July video Matt?
