I am a carpenter and experienced railway modeller and must say that your video should be released as a training video. The multiple skills that you demonstrate are beyond text book standard. Also, your work area was always clean and tidy. Congratulations and well done on a superb piece of work.
Thank you very much! :]

So how do you keep those wretched freight cars from jumping the track? My tanker cars are good at it, especially at switches.
Excellent work, from design through execution!
I'm 78 years young so have seen a lot but this is one of the most incredible things I've ever seen in the 'hobby' world. Fantastic.
i'm so glad someone of your generation is browsing TH-cam and drawing inspiration from the many talented model makers here.
As I hope to still be doing when I get to your age.
Respect to you Mike 🤩
Yes, it's incredible, neuer seen something similar, too.
AMAZING
Merci.
Amazing vision. Forty years ago my uncle built a three level layout. Keep in mind it was analog yet he was able to run four trains simultaneously. Sadly he was never able to landscape it before life caught up to him. I was able to purchase 80% of his engines and rolling stock. I do not have photos of the layout but watching your endeavor unfold it brings back memories. Looking forward to how you landscape!
What should I even say? The amount of skill, knowledge, time, dedication, motivation, etc... it's enviable. The amount of craftsmanship that would have went into this is truly out standing, let alone the cost! Truly a project worthy of respect; especially for no goal other than passion. I and many, many others wish we had the capability to dedicate so much time to fulfilling, hard-working projects as you are.
Congratulations, and keep doing what you love!
Thank you very much :]
I'm also 78 years young and helped build section C220 of the Taiwan High Speed Railway back in 2000 - 2004. I was the Senior Inspector of Works for the 16 klm of Right of Way, 11 tunnels were constructed, plus an elevated section across the flood plain of Hsin Chu. The viaducts were installed as concrete sections by way of DSM & ASM methods to form the twin track running lines and 4 track station of Hsin Chu. The tunnels in the foothill section had earthworks, bridges between each one, this all in a earthquake zone, I have experienced a few and their very wobbly. especially as I lived on the 14th floor.
Great model, but I bet the wife has a hell of a job getting to put up a clothes hook. Loved the detail you put in with grass etc. Well done and thanks for posting.
Thanks for youre Story, Sounds intresting! I hope you will enjoy it further :]
A build of this capacity and magnitude is resume worthy regardless of occupation. Just walk up and hand over the flashdrive, 20 minutes later, when can you start?? 😜. Incredible vision conceptually and the dedication and discipline to complete a massive scale multi year project. Congratulations 🍻
Many thanks for these great words of praise! I really appreciate it! Greetings David!
Thank you for expressing this before me. Whatever the occupation of the person building this, he must be very, very good at it. Deutsche Gründlichkeit, eh ?
I’ll second your reply if l may and the word magnitude and track cleaning are the only things I’d add 😳 But bravo, what a monster you hath created! 🤣 Can’t wait for Part 3 👍
The planning, the step-by-step construction and the 2 year result - Amazing!!! I have not had a railroad for 50 years and I am still blown away by your skills. This is so much better to watch during my morning coffee than watching the news. Thank you x10 !!!!!!!!
Thank you, really nice to hear that :]
hahaha, couldn't agree more! Just had my lunch during this mesmerizing video and the music is well chosen too! Very very nice and dedicated!
I've seen so many videos on railway models and this one really took my breath away. As mentioned it is a work of art: The carpintery skill, the electrics, atention to detail.. It is a true inspiration. Keep up the great work.
Many thanks for these words of praise! I feel honored!
Danke dir David, du hast was tolles hier gebaut. 👍💪✌
Vielen Dank :]
Watching this video brought back fond memories of my dad. He was into HO trains until the day he died. Thank you for sharing your journey.
The memories will last forever!
I could have written the same comment
Sixty years ago when I was 6 years old my dad gave me the best birthday present ever. It was a simple green plywood table with train and oval track. It looked like a real train and track surrounded with grass to me. Thanks for helping me remember a happy childhood memory.
That's how it started for me too! And then I was infected by the model railroad!
Sounds like a happy childhood :] Greetings!
Still have the Lionel model 1611 Diesel Switcher set with a bit of extra track and a well-worn but intact original outer box from the early 1960's for Christmas to my brother and i
Train set, still pristine condition...outer box, not so much
Been following this build since you started posting videos about it. Looks absolutly incredible. Can't wait for the landscape construction videos. Keep up the hard work!!
Thank you for your loyalty! Greetings from Germany!
So Clean of a job!! Not many understand the amount of work involved with building this beautifully done job!
Big Thanks! :]
im a thirteen year old boy and this is my forever dream. i love seeing how effort you’ve put in this. this inspires me a lot. you did so well! keep up the good work!!!
I've seen many layouts over the years either in person or video. I've even traveled to The Museum of science and Industry in Chicago to view their impressive layout. I'm in Canada so large layouts tend to have long mainlines which look great for long freight consists but then the scenery is mostly vegetation and the square footage is big. I've been thinking for years about my eventual dream build. Your layout is the closest I have seen to what I have imagined. As a trades worker I can see your dedication to top quality workmanship. Definitely one of my favorite layouts. Two thumbs up.
Wow! Thank you so much for this praise! I am very honored!
Greetings from Germany!
You were working so fast rolling around in your chair, I thought I saw a seat belt!
No way ... ;]
I’ve been building HO model train layouts for 58 years you gave me a few new ideas on framing using all threads and the amount that you compacted into a small area. I am extremely impressed.
I am glad that I could show you new possibilities for your model railroad layout :]
This was impressive to say the least. What is your background as this reminds me of project work in industry I work (material handling systems). The planning and execution, and the wiring is unbelievably clean. Well done..and as said..the threaded rod was something I've not seen but filed away for when I start on mine. So many ideas gleaned. Extremely impressed.
Not sure which part of your build impressed me the most! Truly wonderful job from the layout design, the build quality, and your power wiring and setup are first class. Loved seeing the time-lapse of this... thank you for sharing!!
Thank you! :]
Hell yeah man! This is a great example of why I love this hobby. Not only is it a ton of fun but it can also be a work of art!
Thanks :]
@Freestylemoba No problem. What mobas do you play? Ever heard of Predecessor?
The efficiency with which he paired the socks in the drawer was quite admirable.
Your wiring is as impressive as the layout itself. What wonderful, organized work.
Thank you! :]
This is an artwork. But so much work... Unbelievable!
Thanks! :]
Mad respect for your impeccably clean work
Thank you :]
I try my best. Kind regards Elizabeth
Remarkable, absolutely remarkable. Can’t wait to see this masterpiece progress, take a bow young man.😀👍🏻
Thanks! :]
That is such a gorgeous project, so far. I can't wait to see it all completed!
Thanks! :]
So great to see someone following their passion. Great job, it looks great.
Thanks! :]
This is beyond amazing; I do terrain scenery for miniature wargaming so i consider myself part of the « hobby », but this holistic display of skills, planning, and detail.. I did badly not want the video to end... thank you and please keep sharing!
Thank you! :]
Beautiful work. I have built a large HO scale model railroad covering about 1200 ft.² and really appreciate the hard work you have done going through the two-year process. Great job.
Thank you! :] I hope you enjoy building your layout as much as I do! Regards!
I'm just speechless, this required plenty of hard work, dedication, discipline and Time, this is just two years in terms of your various skills! guess it for others
This worth millions of view and still not enough!
Just wanna say congratulations from a diorama maker who really understands the level of this work ❤
Thank you! :]
I love this! Unbelievably overengineered. Can't wait for the landscaping!
Big Thanks :]
That's absolutely mega. Awesome build. Thanks for sharing.
This is the first time that I have seen this incredible HO layout. I can't wait for the landscape to begin. Lots of work to complete this incredible layout. Mike HO from Australia
Thanks! New things coming sooon, stay tuned ;]
Greetings to Australia!
Unbelievable, really admire your workmanship. Can’t wait to see more this year. 🎉
Big Thanks! :]
The sheer mountain of intricacy and quality is amazing. The design is incredible. Really well done, my friend.
Big Thanks :]
I am blown away. Excellent work!
Thanks! :]
Hallo David. Klasse.
John I love what you have done. Your refinery is awesome
Wow. The volume of top tier talents, skills, training, and expertise that are absolutely required before one could even dream up such a project is definitely worthy of consideration as pointed out by a post below talking about the resume and job interview demonstration.
Lots of visibly demonstrated and externalizable "strengths" here like, start to finish vision, planning and conceptualizing, building a plan to methodically build such a project, recognition and management of a web of complex and interactively required elements and systems for which each of them required their own plans, the patience and attention to detail in the execution of the plan, quality controls to prevent errors from being realized too far into the construction to fix or correct, the ability and skills to do the video capture and media content creation
There was a time in the US maybe 20ish years ago where the big deal in education was project oriented demonstrations for student's "portfolios. I'd say that this project in its totality is a near perfect portrayal of the goal of that movement. It even includes the hobbies. What do you do for fun? Model Trains..
This is pretty much astounding.
Stunning. Congratulations. The dedication is above and beyond. Thank you for this video.
Thank you! :]
Tolle Anlage! Und erst die sauber ausgeführte Elektrik! Fantastisch!
Vielen Dank! :]
Incredible. Couldn't stop watching. Bravo, bravo.
Thank you :]
Very impressive! Looking forward to seeing what is to come!
Thank you! :]
Hugely impressed….thank you .🤗

Unbelievable Work! Can't wait to see what it looks like when it is complete 100%
Me too :] Thank you!
Jeezus! If I change a light bulb in the kitchen I'm a friggin' hero.

haha :] Thanks!
Great layout. Eagerly waiting to see your automation ideas: time-tables, sequences, …
Fantastic planning and construction. Will be great fun to operate.

Was für ein traum. Absoluter wahnsinn!! ❤
Vielen Dank! :]
Incredible and professional work! A pleasure to watch! Kudos!
Excellent. Your electrical work is fantastic and very structured.
Thank you! :]
I’m 63 years old my layout took 3 years and still building and improving.. your layout is incredible.
Thank you! :]
This was an amazing time-lapse video to watch. so satisfying!
Absolute super build
Thanks! :]
Thanks for sharing this amazing video. Looks like first-class work all round.
Thanks :]
Ein sehr schöner Zeitvertreib! Ein fetten Respekt an dich 👍👍👍
Besten Dank! :]
Magnificant! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks! :]
What an excellent project, and what an excellent video! Brilliant work, thank you for sharing.
Thanks, I feel honored :]
@@Freestylemoba Truly mate, I mean it. I saw a comment on here that was critical of what you’ve achieved and I thought “what a nasty prat to post such a comment.” It’s your layout, it’s your choice how you model it and in my opinion, you have done this amazingly well. I am about to start my own project which I hope will be a similar size and complexity to yours. I doubt it’ll be of similar quality to yours but you know what, I don’t care because it’ll be mine! I congratulate you again on the excellence of your work.
truly a kind of a masterpiece here - blown away by this dedication!
Thanks man! :]
Incredible video, loved watching this. Thank you for producing this video! Truly amazing work.

Wonderful workmanship...thank you for posting 👍...Harry
Fantastico!!! Bravissimo, lavoro eccezionale. 🥇
A work of art!!!
Wow just wow, but damn, now you have weathened my apitite for more. Can't wait to see the landscaping, trees, creeks and houses. People, roads and cars.
Coming sooon :]
wow.........
I'm at a loss for words seeing this..
extraordinary.....patience.....perseverance......inspiring ...👍
Thank you :]
Great job but I am now very discouraged! As somone who grew up in Germany and who loves German trains, I've always wanted a German cantinary HO layout roughly twice as large as yours with long straight runs and large radius turns. A couple Bahnhöfe and a Locschuppen. I was hoping that in two years of 10 hours a week in possibly three I could build such a layout start to finish with all the scenery. I can tell a project such as mine will take at least 10 years. 🥺
You must not overdo it and only take on individual sections at a time. Then a layout will develop almost by itself ;] You have to enjoy youre build and not to rush it! Greetings!
Don't be discouraged. You can get a lot done in 2 yes with 10 hrs a week. Aim for a lesser level of detail and completion for phase 1 and then make improvements and fill in details. Some people are never "finished".
Maybe try building a smaller layout first with the intentions of being able to incorporate it into your planned larger layout. If it's your first layout the experience and skill you'll acquire will help in completing a larger build. I'm currently on my 3rd Ho scale permanent layout and spent a few years on a "temporary" N scale floor layout using Kato Unitrack. My dream build is still years away. I'm sure some of the skills you acquired from RC model building will help. Best of luck.
I’m an Army Brat who lived in Bavaria four years from like 4-8, I always tell my family I miss the train travel the most.
Thanks a lot. Great work and video about the work done. Hello from Moscow. Russia.

Absolutely fantastic job! Great pleasure watching your work. Congratulations!
Thank you! :]
wow is all i can say so much work over 2 years & so much more cant wait to see the finished item , things like this are never finished you will fill the room in then have pop up holes to work in
Just awesome, great job and a great video. I am exited to see the "finished" one with landscape and all the details...
Thank you! :]
I don't know nothing about this hobby but this is incredible. Respect.
Thank you! :]
When we came in our new house, 28 years ago, a small place at the attick was reserved for my trains. But I couldn’t finish this plan. 5 Years ag I stopped working and had a new bigger plan because I had more time. But it was not possible to finish that too. My age is 63 and I am jealous at your trains! My plan was smaller but with two leavels. I am amazing how you have finished this construction. I had Fleischmann H0. I was 6/7years old when my dad started with making trains in the weekend.
Nice to hear your stories. Sometimes you shouldn't set your sights too high. I hope you enjoy your layout construction.
Beste greetings!
Thanks!
Simply WOW. That is a beautiful layout. I'm so envious of your dedication, discipline and eye for detail. You have achieved something to be very proud of. Congratulations. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪.
