What year is your X5? Along with the hitch and the control unit, did you also install a brake controller?

Did u upgrade the brake for the additional weight? If so how did u code it and did u feel more braking force?

This was a great Video. All works except the 12v Aux. Do you know what fuse or connection this is? BMW X5 40e 2017
I am trying to connect a curt wireless break controller and it requires this 12v Aux.

That "interconnect" at 10:17 is NOT power and ground. It is your connection to the vehicle's CAN bus. One is signal and one is return. If you short anything or connect them backwards it probably won't damage anything but if you put this in and nothing on your X5 works then you got them reversed and every module in the car has stopped communicating with the ECU. Simple red strip goes in line with the red strip wires and you can probably figure out the rest.

Great video. Just finished wiring - everything. Where did you mount the 7 pin / pollak unit and were you able to fit wiring through hole wo issue?

Yes, either end of the wiring harness will fit through the hole. For mounting the Pollak unit, I decided to use two short 5/16" stainless threaded rods that I drilled and tapped into the hitch crossbeam (Reese brand). I used stainless nuts and washers to secure and achieve the best bracket position vertically. It can tuck in on either side without additional trimming of the bumper cover, right above & behind the safety chain attachment.

@@ssmaser The OEM wiring harness has the Pollak connector already connected. Will that physically fit through the hole? Looks like it is larger than the rubber grommet. I plan to install the harness and later remove the bumper cover. I want to make sure I can feed the connector from inside the car out. Thanks

@@mattfelmlee2102 the grommet is very pliable, it will fit. The harness to the Pollak unit may be attached, but on mine it was a quick connect.

imagine doing all this instead of just buying a simple aftermarket plug in kit and few splices
