    What a generally clean job, with the traditional hot rod innovation! To solve your battery placement issue, I would suggest moving the battery to the original battery box, which would allow a shorter alternator lead, and starter as well. That would leave you with the need to relocate a few generally small wires. Reminds me very much of my own youth! My own first brand new car was a 1961 Studebaker convertible, which I was able to get a deal on, just when the 1962 models arrived. Only one problem was that it had a 170" six, so after a year or so, I bought an older Stude with V8 and O/D, rebuilt it at home, and with the help of a good friend, made the swap. Took us a while, as we installed/removed it a couple of times, as I needed the car to go to work Monday mornings! Picture an image of two monkeys and a football...

    Probably the most down to earth, easily followed engine - swap video I've ever seen (and I been around a LONG time)
    Exactly what you did and how, explained the important things in depth and the rest just enough to easily follow.
    Really top notch content - your followers get good information from you!
    The wagon is cool as hell!, haven't seen the next vid but you're on the way!!!
    Side note - whenever I have to put a front clip back on, I form/tape cardboard to the doors, it's the best way to protect everything that I've seen/done yet!

      Thank you that gives me some motivation. Thats a great idea with the card Board. I shot this car with rustoleum rattle cans. I plan on painting it again probably multiple times for fun so paint doesn't matter too much. It looks pretty bad in person and the rockers are rotted out. BTW this was the first time I have ever done a swap like this I have replaced engines and transmissions. But never put something, in something, that wasn't meant to go in something.

      Then the swap is a big step up for you - take it from an OG, you did really well! Only forgetting to use the headers instead of the manifolds for your mockup is much better than some of the mistakes I've seen (IRL) some of the supposed experts make.
      Yup, you did really well!

    Great upgrade. I found about six of these sitting out in the guy's collection probably 15 years or better ago. I thought my girl found something. Two-door wagon of a Chrysler Plymouth Dodge variant. Well I still really neat cars. They just weren't as rare as I thought they might be. I remember back in probably the late 90s early 2000 I was going to do something wild like drop electronic ignition in where I had points before. The old distributor was worn out. Borinquen local O'Reilly store and they were looking at me kind of odd. So I just told them I wanted a distributor simile for a newer 318 that was pointless. So I walked out $18 later and it was complete with the cap. Already has that plug wires I did not use on another project so I use them and dropped into the sugar assembly and it ran like a champ 🏆. The point was that I had spent $18 for the complete assembly. They had a surplus of them and they weren't selling well at the time now you can't even buy the cheap Chinese knockoff for that price.

    On the oil pressure, is it electric or is it direct oil pressure to the gauge? The 1955 models still used a 6VDC system, while in 1956 they changed to 12VDC. When the change was made, Chrysler added a pulsed voltage regulator to take care of the electrically operated gauges. The regulator put out about an average 5VDC and they continued to use the exact same gauges that were used on the 6VDC system. When changing to 12VDC you do need to add that 5VDC regulator to keep from burning up the electrically operated gauges. The ammeter will be the exception which simply gets the + and - connected correctly.

    Hi , just a thought , are you using a hei distributor ? Hall Effect Ignition dissies generate their own voltage once started. Your old plymouth would have a distributor that has 2 power feeds, one on crank
    (start position ) that uses the whole 12 volts, and then when it starts, the ignition drops back to the on position which only gives it about 9 volts. The hei distributor doesn't want any incoming current once it's started, so the 9 volts coming in is enough to defeat the ignition process. I can't tell you exactly how to fix it, I accepted defeat and used an auto electrician. I do know he put a relay in the engine bay near the starter , that killed the 9 volt signal after startup. Just a wild guess, but, hope it helps.

    • @somewhatfast
      @somewhatfast  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think this generates its own power. It just needs 12 volts all the time with the key on.
