Love the video, absolutely a pure honor to watch you guys bring these old war dogs back to life. Just a testament of how good those things were made. Incredible
I'm not a Harley guy necessarily but I love your passion for the brand. I feel like I'm learning something every time I watch your videos..not just start and rebuild/repair but a great history lesson. Keep up the wonderful work!
Whenever you and Chris are bringing an old relic back to life, it reminds me of the time i was re-building my old '47EL. I bled sweated and cried over every little (and large!) part I hunted down to get as close to factory stock as possible! The bike and I became one! I can't tell you how much I loved that beast! ❤
I stated restoring bikes in the mid-sixties, an in about '69 scrounged 5 Harley WLA's from a cattle station in Outback Australia and managed to make 2 bikes out of all the bits; an authentic Australian Army model, with SMLE leather bucket instead of the Tommy gun one, and a Civilian one with valenced guards and a sidecar. Lost the lot in a divorce settlement, and am now in my 70's and crippled, and am so depressed that I will never be able to restore another bike, so it gives me great pleasure to live vicariously through guys and it fascinates me to see not only the bikes you are working on, as well as those in the background and all the bits and pieces that I would love to converse about with you ! Greetings from a small town in Rural South Australia !
P.S. Wrote that before I watched the whole Vid, and it turns out that the pale blue WL seems exactly the same as the one I restored in '69/'70 ,except that I kept the original handlebars and no grab bar on the back of the seat (and, of course, there is no Goulding sidecar)! ! Nearly in tears as it brings back memories of over 50 years ago !
I needed friends like you guys when I was a kid . oh how I would love to look at a bike and know what was what and have a friend or two to share it with . Appreciate what you got and cherish what you have .
I just gotta say that Dale is smiling down on your whole crew ! Having met Dale on my visit at Wheels Thru Time, I have to say that he would be so very proud of you guys. Thanks so much for carrying on with his mission, a mission that is so very important to future motorcyclist of the world. I just attended my 45th year at Laconia, here in my home state . Thanks for all that you do..RIDE ON FRIENDS..
The passion and enthusiasm coupled with the encyclopedic knowledge is truly a joy to watch. And you do your best to share that knowledge, which is an invaluable thing.
You might be the best OLD-HARLEY mechanic in the world. You know the year and application of every ancient, grimy part at a GLANCE, and how to fix or install it QUICKLY! Amazing.
I'm in the UK - I'd love to own a Harley one day! I was glued to this video and what a beautiful bike and in the fortunate hands of experts! Thank you for this! One day, I'd love to visit! We can dream can't we?
Watching these videos brings back all the days I spent with my Dad and an old mate of his Jim Forster here in Safety Bay West Australia. Unfortunately Jim died 2 years ago. He was 105 years old and spent his retirement rebuilding old Harley's, BSA's, Ariel's etc. I remember a 42 WLA painted up like the bikes Dad ride in WW2. A 28 Harley, a Harley from the early 30's he called the depression bike. So much history restored to its former glory and I am guessing was on sold by the family once Mr Forster died. I loved that old 28 with side car he named Aunty Jack. On thise bikes I was taught all about compression, firing of cylinders, strokes etc as a kid. Love your work fellas
Me and the better half love Wheels Through Time. We rode a sportster 400 mi from West Tennessee to Maggie Valley to see it and it did not dissapoint it is incredible to see so much mind boggling stuff in one place and we even got to meet Chris who is a really nice down to earth guy maybe we get to meet Matt next time
This is definitely my favorite channel on TH-cam right now! There was a lot of nice stuff in that container I really liked that black one and I personally like the white seat better in the blue one
That transmission is fixable. You need flux (20 mule team borax), an oxy/ace number 2 welding tip, and a pure aluminum bar. You can use pipe fitting flux paste if you want to prep the surface, but as a bladesmith I prefer borax. Put the flux on your surface and heat it with the torch till it melts the flux. Then build up your surface with the aluminum rod. After it is built up you can sculpt it with a flat grinder in a dye grinder the drill and tap it. Don't give up on that gem. I have tigged those cases back together from a complete split and rode them for years before someone offered me more than I liked the bike. The repair I described my dad was taught to do in the army on messenger bikes during Vietnam. I've used it building lowrider cars and restoring old Indian motorcycles. Did it two years ago to repair an engine mount on a yamaha xj650 chopper I built from a box of parts. It can be done. Just a little practice on some scrap metal to develope your touch on the torch. I mean you are already planning to scrap it what will it hurt for you to try. If you are gonna bring old bikes back why not learn the old skills to go with it. Honestly if had the means I would gladly be on my way to show you.
Here's one for you. I watch a lot of these You Tube videos (can't understand why I don't get anything done) I watch these videos from out there in Pakistan I think that is where they are and it shows these guys welding up engine blocks that have holes busted in them with an oxy-acetylene torch. It is amazing and if they can do it we can do it. Of course they do not waste anything and it is quite educational to see them in action.
It never fails to amaze me how quickly you can get these old Harleys to run again having been stood idle for tens of years. A testament to your skill and the quality and durability of old Harley Davidsons. Keep these videos coming 👍
Good morning 🌅, great job guys, France. I am in my 70s , your bike reminds me when I was 16/7, I passed my test when I was 17 , I had Norton and one especially Norton dominator , it was crusty like your bike , I stripped it and rebuilt it but I turned into a chopper , Got back into bakes in the early 90s until 2019 , when I sold everything, and just recently purchased a 2003 Deuce, it was crusty. It wouldn’t run properly, just spent the last 3 weeks rebuilding, primer and part of the gearbox, carb , ignition system, all running, ready for a test, It is great being back on 2 wheels,
Love the show. My brother in law knew the old bikes. He had a pan shovel that looked like your stuff. It was a real sleeper. Had a shop in the sixties. You have a new fan. You sure know your trade. Nice to see you do your own work. Thanks.
It's always a pleasure to see you resurrect these glorious bikes... the color is beautiful too... years ago I painted my 2005 Sportster carb. of a very similar color!
You guys are living the DREAM. Was in the museum about 20 years back and met your DAD, Kelly and I were amazed at taking the trip back in time that day. The best I can remember your dad had the old board trackers and racers in a circle on display in the center of museum. Was a cool experience. We will be visiting again soon. Bought my first scooter in 77 I think, it was in Starkville MS, I was 17 it was a black and charcoal gray with gold pin stripes ROADSTER as a 17-year-old I was on top of the world when I rode that thing. 27 Harleys later and still have not owned anything older than a 62. Mabey someday but I am running out of time. I enjoy all the content and the passion I see in you guys when working on these old girls.
OUTSTANDING! Ive been a mechanic for 40 years, now retired. This is the first time I have ever seen a 10mm anything was found. I always assumed all the 10mm were taken off world by aliens , amazing !
Man Im watching the saved this abandoned junk pile motorcycle and I’m just thinking you’re Dad would be so proud of you right now! This TH-cam channel that you’re sharing and creating is going to be timeless and already is !! Great thing that you are doing! Wow! Thank you for sharing! Was important for Levi's 501 button fly back in the day. You always bought long cause you didn't really know and you could cuff them is you guessed wrong.
Great video. What I like about it is that you guys know what you are doing, but having a lot fun while you do it. I might just visit your museum. Thanks!
You are living the dream of many many guys, i love your history, your pasión and knowledge. From Argentina, I just have got a pair of classic and antiques bikes.
Love the enthusiasm of exploring this bike for the first time. What a haul of vintage Harley parts and no better place for them to go. Thanks for the video Matt and Chris!
I have a sporty 2021… been sitting for a while because I have a bigger bike now. After watching this I decided to get the sporty out and go get gas and go for a ride… I think this is my new favorite channel
I've had the opportunity to build a couple of these old 45 Flatheads. Wish I still owned one! The only problem I had in the motorcycle community was, "You're riding a girls bike!" Of course most of these so-called "bikers" even knew how to start one, let alone ride it!
It's great to see you guys bring this motorcycle back to life again and see it hopefully back on the road again great work guys your the best I'm from England and love motorcycle videos thank you for sharing this video.
This is definitely my favorite channel on TH-cam right now! There was a lot of nice stuff in that container I really liked that black one and o personally like the white seat better in the blue one
Y'know, it was choppers that first got me interested in motorcycles, but ever since i started watching this channel more frequently I've been falling in love with these WLs! Can't get enough of these or the board track racers. Thanks for broadening my horizons. Hope i can make it out and see the museum someday, but these vids and the online gift shop will have to do for now haha. I repped a dales harley shirt last time i worked the pomona auto swap.
I love looking back In Time & seeing you two gents getting 45’ & ALL the rest of the vintage machines back working / riding You bring MUCH JOY I wish I were by your sides Wrenching & going on some rides I would love too get my project complete & working servi Car I have a start So far a frame W/ trans / wheels/tanks no engine yet all mismatched needs total restoration still gathering for now I will keep on riding my Tri Glide I wish you Peace & JOY
I watched Field of Dreams just last week, then pulled this video up this morning. Perfect. My dad has a 31 UL, a 34/5/6 (One piece at a time) UL, and a 49 WL... One of these days he and i are gonna have to ride em up to see yall.
Great to see the bike come back to life and the reactions of the passionate collectors... Reminds me of when things were simpler and built to last or be repaired--not just throw away, plastic computers on wheels.
Really great channel! Very impressive knowledge of the old Harley's, great diagnosis skills, skillful practical abilities, epic work ethos, super cool subject matter and a smattering of humour and banter makes for an entertaining watch! Thanks!
🇺🇲🇵🇷🇲🇽😎 Memories of my 1977 F. L ❤ I was born in 1947 ,would Love to find an old HD or a 47 Indian in a barn somewhere out West.!!! Thanks bringing this one back to life.🎉
Back in the early 70's I rode a 42 Flathead Harley. Sometimes when the big guys would kick the motor over they broke the rod going through the motor. The Harley was green at first then painted red. No faster than 50 mph was the best ride. I'm 70 now and it would be nice to have another GEM like this.
Love this one. Reminds me of a DL I fixed 60 years ago. Everything original except the infamous bevel gear generator drive. Had been replaced with a V-belt. Crankpin worn 1/16. Rode it for two years, always reliable. Then went on with more modern bikes. But running when I bought it, so no wonder you could get this one going.
I never get tired of seeing old Harley Davidson's brought back to life....
👍👍👍👍
They should paint it pink, or rainbow coloured, lol.
@@DogSerious put a tuck option on the seat

Love watching these guys talk their way through troubleshooting and correcting. Much knowledge there!
How cool to get a whole barn collection of history and play , keep the new clean , love the patina / rust /dust

"Transmission officially reversed" Love it. This is like watching a couple top notch doctors or surgeons working the ER on a Friday night.
Looks like a keeper to me. I've had some 45's. Still have some WL parts
Ya and get rid of the sun glasses every frame you putting back on your noggin.
That is not a junk pile that's a well sheltered stash
Pure gold...
the surgeons are never actually assigned to the ER. thats a departmental transfer via triage ;)
This is why I like this channel you guys genuinely love what you’re doing

I always seem to find 10mm spanners.

You guys Rock on your crew! Change the transmission everything ran.!!!!! Nice ride brothers!!!
