You make a great point. I think they should require people on food stamps or poverty assistance to have to use 70% of there food stamps on produce and maybe 20% on protein and meats, with 10% going to junk Oreo's etc. Although the WIC program did help my family a lot and I was very appreciative of that. But we never used it for Stogey's soda or beer there was strict guidelines on which foods you got a discount on. All the processed food has way to much salt. I think that is one thing the guys didn't touch on in the interview the amount of sodium intake now is through the roof making people fat.

As someone who recently went from 400 pounds to 260, I can tell you there is nothing brave about how I was doing back in the day when I was fat. There was nothing good in a way I looked, or felt. It goes like this: you are fat because you eat too much and dont exercise because you are also lazy. The food industry is using science to recompose food with hi sugar hi fructose and hi carbohydrates from GMO cereals. The meat industry is using growth and sexual hormones in cattle and pork, the farming industry uses Glyphosate and sterilize the soil from any nutrients and minerals. Then they sell it you, ask you to put it in amicrowave and blame you for getting sick. Bill Mahler is an asshole.

As a female who was previously overweight, it was very intriguing to see how once I lost weight and got fit and healthy, the friends that I lost too. Honestly I consider it a blessing in disguise, because it was a great way to filter out my real friends from my fake ones. Considering my father's side of the family has a history of diabetes and I was very close to following down that path if I hadn't made this life change, I will not go back for anyone's comfort. Bill is so right here on every point. But one major thing people are missing is the link between depression and being over weight. Many people know they are eating bad and it’s not healthy, but it’s the only enjoyment and escape they have away from their unhappy lives. It’s hard to make good decisions when you crave that good dopamine rush from junk food.

    • @anabanana3857

Good point. One fix is exercise as it boosts dopamine, of course the trouble is depression makes it so hard to do it. I’ve dealt with it myself. Bupropion has helped so much! I also thing menopause and hormones play a big role and that should be addressed. Massive income inequality and overwork from low pay and no mandated vacay probably does help with depression. :(

When I got a back injury, I lived in denial about the weight I was carrying that was making it harder to deal with. I told myself comfortable lies like "You aren't that fat" and "you know people who are fatter than you." We need to stop lying to ourselves. I've since seen a nutritionist and lost 43lbs on a high protein, high fiber diet. Stop lying to yourself if you have a belly. The goal isn't to look good. The goal is to feel good and live longer.

Clayton Saint Cyr that's exactly it. We get comfortable, and we find it pointless, and sometimes feels like the goal is so far out of reach. All it took was for someone to call me a "fat fk" for the first time of my life lmao it hit me hard because I NEVER heard that before in my life, I was always thin, but gained weight due to depressing which only made it worse. But now I'm down 60lbs from 6 months ago. All I had to do was to stop eating so much. At first my eating habits were so out of control, that all I didn't was cut breakfast and dinner off of the menu, and only ate lunch. So I guess we can call it a calorie deficit and interment fasting

I think more formerly fat people like us should be open like this to encourage others to lose weight for themselves rather than shaming them because they look bad. I think bullying people for it is bad but suggesting ways to fix it is better. You're right that it's a bit step to see the problem and actually do something about it. His reasoning is that you should save money on deductibles and copays. But that’s because he’s basing it off the average in annual medical costs. This says to me that this "healthy at any size" and fat acceptance is bullshit. People don't really mean it. It's just a way to allow lazy people to feel better about their own laziness.
There's two easy ways to avoid spending effort on fixing a problem.
    1. Declare it unfixable. "I was born this way"
    2. Declare it "not a problem".
I stopped feeling good about being lazy, so I did what I had to do to fix it. And now that I have, I'm keeping up the effort to maintain my results.

And when they are sued over it, they claim it’s not breaking the law because it’s “obvious” that what they are saying isn’t truthful. What is killing the U.S. is the breakup of the nuclear family with neither father or mother cooking for their kids. Unfortunately, there are health concerns which are *ENTIRELY* outside of one's control. I should know. I spent 35+ years as an athlete, training, working out, sacrificing energy and efforts for pain and gain, and the trouble is: I STARTED OUT UNLUCKY. I was *never* going to be Dwayne Johnson nor Tom Cruise, but you can see the incredible stuff I did on this very channel.
But there are/were other things at play. Now, I only have like 6-12 years to live, but not *ONE BIT OF IT* is my fault. No way, no how. I busted my arse and ate pretty darn healthy. Didn't smoke, barely ever drank, and chose healthy food over garbage 10 times of 12. I did what I could, but my genetics/luck killed me, lol. 💪😎🤟

That’s why most Japanese have normal weight because of their food system.

Non East Asian living in east Asia here. Eating the way locals eat made me obese. It’s a real problem with non-East Asian races in these regions. I think we’ve all adapted to eating a certain ratio of macronutrients that’s unique to our genetic pool and what’s worked with me is eating the way my grandparents would have. Not a scientist but just theorising anecdotally.

@@angryowl5972 My sister gained weight in Japan eating the same food as the Japanese. She can't eat carbs likes they do, she got seek when she eats rice. She was able to lose some weight by reducing her carb intake. Hope that help.

No, Japanese are so obsessed with beauty that anorexia is like an unwritten rule, combined with working until you die. Things aren't good here, but they also aren't good over there.

I've been working as an EMT for a month and a half. A lot of our patients were severely overweight. They had accompanying issues such as hypertension, tachycardia, and diabetes.
It's expensive as hell to transport someone to the hospital (not including interfacility transfers), do surgery, and paying overtime for the medical personnel that have to get called in or stay after the end of their shift.
There has also been a greater incidence of injuries for EMS. Now you have workers comp, taking that EMT or medic out of service for awhile, pain meds, or even surgery.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that it’s not being poor that makes it hard to eat healthy. It’s feeling disempowered that makes it hard to eat healthy - and most people who are poor, feel disempowered. I’m saying this with a little experience under my belt, as I am a person with disabilities who has lived on her own, and been a recipient of Social Security benefits for the last 30 years. I think we’ve all been conditioned to think that we can’t have a good life if we’re financially poor. But it’s been my experience that you can, but you have to take matters into your own hands to do it. I also think that feeling disempowered has become socially acceptable. I don’t think that’s right either.
