    The frame is made from Sapele wood and the pins are brass. The corner joints of the frame are called half lap joints and were cut on the table saw with a flat top bit. The pocket for the icepick was cut on an X-Carve CNC router (link below) and the brass pins were not cut with a knife; that was just some fancy editing. Damn near everything I used is linked below. The front face was slightly lower than the rest of the frame after cutting the front off; but since the kerf on the bandsaw blade is so thin, I was able to sand down the difference on the rest of the frame.
    This icepick is made by the one and only Jimmy DiResta!

    That was awesome! Neat addition with the hidden icepick compartment and the editing of cutting the brass rod with your knife was perfect.
    Had to tap pause*play*pause*play... on my phone to see the hidden text.
    Great video Dustin!

      Put a secret compartment in a couple things, no one will ever think to look for it. Put 'em in most things, and they'll assume everything you've ever made has one.

    G'day from Australia , The secret compartment is impressive however I was more impressed by the fact that it was a two sided frame many a time I've had to hide something behind a frame that I would've liked access to show the other side, great idea thank you, Tim .... PS: would've been too simple for me to think of it 😊😊

    At 2:54 when you are splitting that piece on the bandsaw, what kind of blade are you using? It looks like you are getting an incredibly smooth cut. All of my bandsaw cuts are extremely rough

    • @dpmakestuff
      @dpmakestuff  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a scary expensive Laguna Resaw King blade. If this one broke, I'd buy it again. It transformed how I think about bandsaw cuts.

    Ah yes #3 on my go to list of shtf weapons, the ice pick very modest yet extremely effective.

  • @robertschelich4061
    @robertschelich4061 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice, when you split the board on the band saw it seems like it is the same thickness as before. How did you make up for the width of the blade? Seems like it would not be flush?

    • @dpmakestuff
      @dpmakestuff  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mention that in the video description, but basically the band saw blade kerf is so thin, I was able to sand down the difference on the other boards. Thanks!
