New subscriber, and I have to say what I like best about watching you work is what I *don't* see: No pocket screws, no brad nails, no screws unless they are required. Top notch work.
That box looks great and I really like the idea of using thick backerboard to make the veneer of the maple board and then sawing it off at the end. Now I really need to build that bandsaw! :-P
Came out great, did you see the video with John and Matthias comparing their box-joint-jigs? I think John's comes out a little bit better. Once I get a better table saw, that'll be one of my first projects! Anyway, that box turned out beautifully, nice work! 🤓👍🏼
Dustin Penner the spinner is to protect the dominoe from scratching when you mix them up (wash the dominoes). it slides on the brass spinner on the table rather than the wood.
Awesome box. Love the bookmatched top, and the satisfying fit of the blocks. End grain work surface? Maybe you should make a camera battery that lasts forever for your next video. ;)
Le magasin qui vend le plan de la joint boxe n’est plus ouvert. Où est-ce que je peux me procurer le plan. Aujourd’hui peut-être plus facile à faire avec une cnc ,laser et imprimante 3d.
haha thanks! Yeah i realize this is the one and only time those blocks will ever be 100% put away... but I can dream!! I like to come up with an excuse for those who thumbs down my videos. Today's excuse is they're mad I didnt show how to make the wooden blocks.
How rewarding it must have felt putting the oil on the "best resawn and bookmatched piece of bandsawing on TH-cam " (2016 - my own award 😶) timber? What a great piece of work....even building the jig, alone!! Forget the secret compartment, I was waiting to see if you would pour 250ml of oil into the box AFTER you put all the pieces in!! Goo-ey mess or inspired oilspersonship? How good was that bandsawing.....and bandsaw....and blade...and fence...and guides....and dust collection? Serious skill envy! Thanks for all the effort making the videos too.... just gonna try and patreon my Xmas $1 to you.... let's hope all the links work!! Cheers
Dustin, I've just completed a box joint jig (see comment below to Dylan Parker) and even after experimenting with re-jointing a port wine box, the way to cut out for the base - without leaving 'holes' in the box ends - and similarly, how to fit the lid were still mystifying me. Your video was therefore a Godsend, showing what and how these can be done. I think I see the way to groove for the base OK, but the lid is still giving me problems as things move rather fast at that part of the video. Is the piece attached to the lid a new, separate item, or is it the part of the end sliced off around 2:18 ? Thanks for posting your video, I'm sure its going to be a great help to me to see what an excellent job you did.
The sliding piece was recut from some scrap, but it didn't need to be. If I would have cut it off on the bandsaw instead of the table saw the gap left by the saw kerf would be that bad.
Hi Dustin, thanks to your video, I was able to make a box for my Grandson ( Lumberjocks - Finger Joint Dungeons & Dragons Box - and I DID use a bandsaw to cut the end. ( In future, I might make one end piece two 'fingers' wider so that I can cut the 'top' off and then trim the remainder to give an even narrower gap - like yours).
Dustin Penner thank you for your reply. wow.. this is your hobby. i thought its your main job because you are making really so great. and skillful. i am watched your all videos. and waiting videos everyday.
Enjoy this video? Fantastic! Do me a favour and follow me on Instagram - @dpmakestuff. I do giveaways and you get to see what I'm working on every day. Thank you!
I have seen hundreds of box making videos but this my favourite so far. Using tape to cover the inside of the box when glueing up was smart
Thanks very much!
omg the ending. my OCD has never been pleased this well in a long time
Nailed the sizing
He didn't remove the pencil mark at the handle so my OCD is spiking
Hi Dustin! :D
Sweet box and that's a neat resaw / bookmatch method!
That is the nicest box to hold scrap wood that I have ever seen. The danish oil really made that lid pop. Nice video as usually.
i don't think it is scrap wood...
I know.
Very cool way to make the top. Kept thinking you were doing a veneer but then you'd cut it off! Good stuff.
Great job, Dustin! Dad-made toys and boxes for the win! When we have kids I'm definitely getting in on that. Thanks for sharing!
It's a good excuse to build some really fun things!
A simple project but finished with excellence - as always! I made John's box joint jig too, love it!
Thanks!
Awesome double bookmatch idea! Project turned out great, as always
New subscriber, and I have to say what I like best about watching you work is what I *don't* see: No pocket screws, no brad nails, no screws unless they are required. Top notch work.
Thank you and welcome! Appreciate it!
Colour me impressed! A double book-matched top. That is genius!
That maple is beautiful. Sweet looking box!
Thanks Sean!
nice work! every time I see a new project of yours it inspires me to get in the shop. the double matchbook lid is a beautiful touch.
That's what I like to hear! Thank you!
I like the way you made the lid. the book matching really sets it off.
This is the best box for wood I ever seen!
Awesome technique on cutting the veneer for the top. Thanks for sharing.
nicely done, i like the slick move not to joint the top where the sliding lid goes. i gotta build one of those box joint jigs
Not only is the stuff you make cool, but the way you make it is awesome! Nice work man.
That resaw & double bookmatch technique... brilliant!
That ending...omg man, so satisfying, incredible craftsmanship!
Great work!love the blue tape to stop squeeze out ,using the mdf to glue up the top and the oil at the end looks fantastic!Nice Job!!
Thanks very much!
Love the technique on the lid! Beautiful finish, this was well put together
Wow, Dustin, nice box of kindling... :-) Seriously, that is one FULL box of blocks!
1/16" wiggle room! Thanks Art!
Nice little box Dustin it's got me thinking about making one cheers Aaron
Ohhhhhhh they all fit so perfectly at the end. my soul is happy
Thanks!
Wow, that is a super nice box joint box!!
beautiful grain in the Lid, thanks for the video
That was an outstanding finish. Nice work!
Thanks Richard!
pleasing our OCD like a boss, thank you
That's one good looking box joint box!!
Beautifully done. I might just have to give John's box-joint jig a try. Matthias' is a little daunting.
Some of the most complete plans I've ever seen! Highly recommend it! Thank you
Wow, really really nice box! That book matched lid is beautiful! Great job Dustin!
Very well done! I really, really like the double book match for the lid. I wish I could give 10 thumbs up for this video!!
Thanks man! 1 is enough!
Very nicely done Dustin!
Dustin, love your work! That box top is awesome!
Great box, that lid makes it well done
Thanks!
i thougzt its for joints.. :( but also a great video, good job!
I thought the same :/
yea :DDD
Flying Peter Me too :DDF
same xD
Flying Peter guess we're all addicts :>
Love the craftsmenship and the video techniques.
Appreciate it! Thanks!
That box looks great and I really like the idea of using thick backerboard to make the veneer of the maple board and then sawing it off at the end.
Now I really need to build that bandsaw! :-P
Nice!! Love the hardware you put on it and the book-matching was very cool!
Wow! Really fast construction. Many special joint boves being made , How many joints are you smoking?
Dude you are ridiculous, and I love it.......... What a great bookmatched top.
Thanks!
Very nice, you make it seem so simple.
Jenga box! nice ... This inspires me to do the same for my Dominoes set, get them outta that cheap tin box.
Great stuff. Keep up the good work. I'm thinking I'm going to have to build one of johns box joint jigs.
Congratulations and thank you for sharing your ideas, a hug here from Brazil.
that was absolutely fantastic. well done!
Great Build Dustin, Well Done.
Hope you and your Family have a Merry Christmas and New Year.
Barry (ENG)
Thanks Barry! Same to you!
Very cool box! I want to learn to do the same
2:11 is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks Dustin!
Came for the joint, stayed cause the box.. Subbed!
Thanks!
Jenga baby!!
Fabulous job and great editing/music too :)
I thought the same thing, Mark. Super sized Jenga! lol
C'est magnifique!
Une précision et une qualité de travaille incroyable! J'adore et bravo 👏
Beautiful box. I have not successfully put groovesvin a box joined box yet. Maybe I should try thicker wood.
It took some knuckle scratching to make sure the grooves weren't visible on the outside, but it came out nicely! Thanks!
Dustin Penner I usually use thinner wood so that's my problem. Usually break something
i just shake my head watching. very impressive.
Thanks!
Awesome job.
Wow, thats Looks amazing! Good Job man👍🏼
Thanks!
Cool video, I'll be using this as reference when I try making a WWI ammunition crate
Beautiful work. Congratulations
Came out great, did you see the video with John and Matthias comparing their box-joint-jigs? I think John's comes out a little bit better. Once I get a better table saw, that'll be one of my first projects! Anyway, that box turned out beautifully, nice work! 🤓👍🏼
Thanks buddy! John's makes more sense to me!
Excellent work!
Now that's precision.
Dude incredible contraptions
Thanks!
Great video, love your work!
Perfect, clean and professional :)
Damn nice Dustin
Looks great!
Very Nice Work, I really enjoyed it! Thumbs up!
Thanks very much Murph!
You sir are a genius.
What locks the slidded lid in? Like why doesn't it just slide out when you turn it?
You need to do a Q&A. Do you work with wood at your job or is this just your hobby??
This is just a hobby for now!
That's a nice box
Start your free trial!!!! hahaha! great build dude!
Thanks man!
Yo DP! love your stuff man. im a dominoes man and would love to see you make sturdy wooden dominoes with brass spinner in middle, with storing case.
Gabriel Garcia Jr had to look it up! What's the spinner for?
Dustin Penner the spinner is to protect the dominoe from scratching when you mix them up (wash the dominoes). it slides on the brass spinner on the table rather than the wood.
Never herd of overkill? lol, love what you do keep it up
Awesome box. Love the bookmatched top, and the satisfying fit of the blocks. End grain work surface? Maybe you should make a camera battery that lasts forever for your next video. ;)
Nice job!
Very nice Dustin - that panel is spectacular. So is this a Jenga-ish game, or just a box of stacking blocks to build/play with?
Thanks! Building blocks similar to Keva Planks
4:12 Genius!! Totally using that one too
Le magasin qui vend le plan de la joint boxe n’est plus ouvert. Où est-ce que je peux me procurer le plan. Aujourd’hui peut-être plus facile à faire avec une cnc ,laser et imprimante 3d.
Keep up the interesting videos always something unique!
Put all those sticks away? Yeah, rigghhttt...... Side bar: who in the world with give Dustin a thumbs down for any of his projects?!?
haha thanks! Yeah i realize this is the one and only time those blocks will ever be 100% put away... but I can dream!! I like to come up with an excuse for those who thumbs down my videos. Today's excuse is they're mad I didnt show how to make the wooden blocks.
What are all those little sticks that stored in that box fooorrrr???
how much would this box cost if i buy it ?
If I were to buy this box from you, how much would this cost. ???
popcorn param how much you got?
@@dpmakestuff I'll dm you in insta.
Is there a video on the sled you use?
Are those Keva Planks? Did you buy or make them?
Great build and the box looks terrific!
They're the same size as Keva Planks but I made them myself. Thanks!
Making my kids some Keva planks was the catalyst that started me on my woodworking journey. Of course, I never finished them.
Dustin, Nice work!
Question: What is the blue mat you did the glue-up on and where can it be found. Thanks. JimE
That's a silicone mat from Rockler! Tell them I sent you haha!

I'm happy to accept the award! Thanks very much! I was getting pretty excited about seeing what the grain would look like with finish on.
Another great video. I missed the bird noises though lol
Thought about it haha! Next time, just for you!
Good box to keep the jenga
Dustin, I've just completed a box joint jig (see comment below to Dylan Parker) and even after experimenting with re-jointing a port wine box, the way to cut out for the base - without leaving 'holes' in the box ends - and similarly, how to fit the lid were still mystifying me. The sliding piece was recut from some scrap, but it didn't need to be. If I would have cut it off on the bandsaw instead of the table saw the gap left by the saw kerf would be that bad.
Ah! Now it makes sense - cutting with the bandsaw looks a good option. Thanks for the prompt reply.
(I assume 'would' should be 'would not')
Hi Dustin, thanks to your video, I was able to make a box for my Grandson ( Lumberjocks - Finger Joint Dungeons & Dragons Box - and I DID use a bandsaw to cut the end. ( In future, I might make one end piece two 'fingers' wider so that I can cut the 'top' off and then trim the remainder to give an even narrower gap - like yours).
Beautiful.
Very f*cking nice man. Unnecessarily nice, which is the best kind of nice.
Thanks!
how does the planar make that pattern?
Brillante trabajo, felicidades gracias por compartir.

So good! Such a satisfying ending also, looks like you got your math right? :p
Got lucky! 1/16" of wiggle room!
nice result
what will you do with that pieces of wood?
박요한 I made it into a box?
Dustin Penner Yes. the small pieces :) and wood work is your main job? or 2nd?
박요한 Oh I see! Those are building blocks for my kids. google "keva planks" if you want to see what they were based on. This is my hobby!
Dustin Penner thank you for your reply. wow.. this is your hobby. i thought its your main job because you are making really so great. and skillful. i am watched your all videos. and waiting videos everyday.
