  • I picked up a BUSTED MPC1000 from eBay recently. Let's see if I can't get it working and maybe clean it up a little.The top, front, and side panels were damaged, probably from (at least one ) fall. In addition, several buttons were not working. The unit did power on, but I was unable to test any audio without being able to navigate the menus.

    Hi brother. Can you please tell me what soldering iron you are using and what type of solder? With links if possible? I appreciate it! Great videos!!!

      Absolutely, I got you fam:
      I use a Hakko FX888D. For me, this is a good quality relatively inexpensive soldering iron:
      www.amazon.com/Hakko-FX888D-23BY-Digital-Soldering-Station/dp/B00ANZRT4M/
      Any type of 60/40 Rosin Core Solder should do. I like using 0.8mm:

      If you're new to soldering, I would HIGHLY suggest this video:

    I had to re-watch this again. My friggin' 130gb HD suddenly died on me and now I see I have a lot of unscrewing to do to get to the drive.. I hope its not destroyed because I didn't back it up..

      It's not a difficult repair if you have a decent soldering iron! Just make sure you desolder the right pins lol. It can get confusing when you flip the board over

  • @256k_

    i never saw someone so good with the desoldering braid! jeez man teach me your secrets

    • @sumawav
      @sumawav  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! What really helps is having a decent soldering iron. I think a LOT of people assume they’re bad at soldering when in reality their equipment is bad.
      Use a clean strip of wick, apply heat with the iron, and wait until you see the solder melt and get absorbed. Be sure to clean with alcohol afterward.
      Thanks so much for watching!

      @@sumawav i do this, i have a good iron. been soldering stuff for 20 years now :D i just never was good at desoldering, it always get stick at the edge of the pad. there's always a tiny lil amount that's left stuck to the pad and the leg of the component. you just have the gift it seems :D

      @@sumawav I’ve maybe found a fix for the OG pads. Mines is over 15 years old. Stock pads. I’m now on the last row of the fix. It worked on the first pad. Now hopefully it continues to work. I’m so tired of clicking on FL studio 🤦🏿‍♂️. If this works maybe an MPC 1 might be next!

    That's so clear and concise, thank you! Would you have any tips on fixing the stereo out ? My MPC has a faulty contact and sometimes only send the signal on the left, I have to tweak the main volume button until it sends stereo...

    • @sumawav
      @sumawav  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! I'm glad the videos are helpful.
      I bet your main volume potentiometer is either dirty or going bad. Especially since you CAN make it work if you tweak them main volume.
      What you can do is spray some a small amount of DeoxIT on the volume potentiometer and turn it back and forth a bunch of times. Be sure to clean up with alcohol afterwards. Sometimes dust can get into the pot and build up over time. DeoxIT along with turning the pot can help clear that up.
      If that doesn't work, it might be time to replace the volume pot. Mpc-stuff carries a replacement part:
      www.mpcstuff.com/mpc-1000-main-volume-encoder-pot/
      Also, does the sound cut out if you jiggle the cables attached to stereo out? If so, that could mean your 1/4 in jacks might also have a loose connection.
      Best of luck!

    • @cour2recre
      @cour2recre 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sumawav Thank you for the answer! I tried to apply the DeoxIT, it seems to make it a little better to find the stereo but it's still cutting a lot around the 40% area, above that seems to be cleaner though (but I'm a bit scared for the live ).
      Jiggling the cables attached to stereo out doesn't change anything, I guess the pot is the faulty one. I just don't know if it's really dirty or just going bad.
      Anyway, thank you for the help :) !

    hi, I have a question: I own the MPC 1000 which has footswitch jack that I use to control 'stop' and 'play'. recently, I got the MPC One which does not have footswitch jack. the question is: can you add/install footswitch jack on the MPC one to control 'stop' and 'play' like on the MPC 1000?

    • @sumawav
      @sumawav  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not, that would be a major modification. A better option would be to use a midi controller and map a button to start/stop.

    Does it make sense to buy a 1000 if the main output and headphone output are not working/not producing sound?

    • @sumawav
      @sumawav  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maybe! Bad outputs are a common problem - usually from wear and tear from plugging/unplugging cables. In many cases resoldering the joints will fix it.
      However, if the unit was dropped or had water damage, the repair may not be so easy or impossible.
      You're best bet is to get as much info about the unit as you can.
      Also, I've never worked on the audio outputs of an MPC1000 so i'm not sure how big of a task it would be to fix.
