SP303 Repair: Volume Knob and Audio Out

    I have a question. I just bought an SP 303 and the only sound from the outputs are faint high frequencies (treble only), there is zero sound from the headphone jack and although the volume knob is solid and in its place, there is no change when rotating the knob. In your expertise (and so I have a good idea of what to buy for repairs) do you know of this issue? I don't know if its something common or if there's another route it could be besides the outputs. Any info is appreciated!!

      If I had to guess, I would say the volume knob has gone bad. What I would do is swap the volume knob with a fresh replacement.

      @@sumawav thank you for the info! Would that contribute to the outputs only putting out the high frequencies? (I.e. faint sound coming from outputs similar to blown speakers)

      Does the unit power on when you connect it via midi? If not, it's probably the midi port that went bad over time from plugging/unplugging the cable. If this is the case, you'll have to replace it. It's a common part and not a super complicated repair.

    Does anyone watching this have any experience with the USB port on the Push 2? My Push 2 will power on via the power supply but does nothing over USB. I did a continuity test from the four USB pins on the Push 2 mainboard. There seems to a physical connection between each of those four pins and their corresponding wires on the cable when plugged in, even so my computer doesn't see the Push. I thought perhaps a corrupt firmware update might mean there is no driver equivalent on the Push 2. All the same that should stop the Push powering up on USB power. Any clues welcomed. As Ableton no longer manufactures the Push 2, it seems unlikely they will offer tech support for anything other than their latest current model.

    • @sumawav
      @sumawav 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Extra strange especially if there's continuity from the pins to the wire. My first thought is the 4 pins may have bad or cracked solder joints. So you would see continuity between the pins and wires, but the PUSH doesn't see past the bad pins. This is super common, the physical act of plugging and unpluggin the USB cable can cause stress on those 4 pins. Remelting the solder on those pins *might* help re-establish their connection.

      Don't worry, I'm NEVER taking any of these down. This info is for everybody! Soldering isn't impossibly difficult, but it will take some practice and unlike making music, the equipment DOES matter. My suggestion is to get a simple kit to practice with. You can find basic kits for making little noisemakers or other toys. They're a good way to learn without risking damaging your equipment. Here's an example from amazon: www.amazon.com/Learn-to-Solder-Kit-Jitterbug/dp/B078BYT8K2/ Also, I've found this video to be an excellent primer on soldering: th-cam.com/video/6rmErwU5E-k/w-d-xo.html Best of luck!
