Char sow nyuk! (Red roasted pork) such a splash of positive and cheery energy! The smiles are disarming and I felt much included in the celebrations at home! I too lived in London; have Cantonese relatives and had our spot of sunshine in jolly ol' way before Internet was around... Now we're in sunny Singapore and Mom's garden is smaller and durian tree's fruiting. Thanks for this heartwarming vid! tai gar ho! Sin tee qian Kong, nit nit seow!

You are so blessed to have all your family. I am an overseas Chinese of Hakka origin, and it is so good to hear Hakka spoken at home.

I love watching this video so much. It brings back sweet memory of me growing up as a Hakka kid. Growing up as a Hakka kid wasn't easy, not only I was facing a racial mocking as a "Chinese" but also an ethnic mocking as a Hakka kid. They referred me as a "guest people" with no sense of belonging. Now that I've grown and read tons of Hakka histories, I am so proud of being a Hakka people.

Ahh thank you so much for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed the video!🥰 I know what you mean, it’s not nice growing up with the mocking. Just like you I feel super proud to be Hakka more than ever now! Where is your family from?🩷

    Hi Kirsty,
    I enjoy your blogs.
You remind me of myself 60 years ago.
I spoke Hakka, Cantonese , English, Dutch and a little French and Spanish.
I was also obsessed with eye makeup.
Somebody told me that I will have eye problems later.
I thought it was foolishness. I am now in my 80,s and I have a lot of eye problems.
I also lost all of my eye lashes.
I know that Hakka women love agriculture.
    All my aunties are farmers.
I find myself planting all kinds of stuff but I mostly plant trees like lychees and longans.
I must have more than a dozen Mauritius lychee and I just added a Brewster lychee tree.
I may not see it to eat but my grandchildren will enjoy the fruits, the coconuts and the bananas for a long time.
Gourmet cooking is also a Hakka trend and although I learned it in my later years I have made a lot of friends from it. They specially like my chasow .
Glad to be Hakka and God bless your happy family. 12:03
    I

Hiii 🤍 Thank you so much for watching!🥰 Wow you can speak so many languages that’s so impressive! My main language is Hakka because my Grandma brought me up, that’s why I’m fluent in the language ❤️
Sorry to hear of your eye problems, my Grandma always tells me to wear less makeup and don’t use lipstick, bless her 😌
Yess Hakka women are indeed farmers! Have you watched my video that I did of my Grandma’s organic Chinese veg farm? Really lovely to hear you love planting stuff too🪴
Likewise! I’m proud and glad to be Hakka 😊✨

By accident while browing You Tube I came across your channel. I am of Hakka origin born in Jamaica but do not speak the language. I do understand the gist of the coversation though. It was so lovely to hear the Hakka you speak is similar to what my late parents speak. There is another kind of Hakka - Moyenne? which I do not understand. The delicious meals your grandma and dad cooks reminds me of my childhood. Thanks you for making these Vlogs, especially the Hakka foods.

I lost my Por Por beginning of this year. When your ah por starting speaking about the ingredients, 2:07 it brought back memories of her. I shed some tears as well because I miss her Hakka cooking and soups. Especially the chicken wine.

At 6:18 we prefer to bitter gourd as "koo kuar" 苦瓜. Never took it as a kid. Its stewed with minced pork and as a dish it takes on a taste which can be addicting on steamy rice!

Hey my first language is Hak Ka I speak with only my family. It's a fast fading ancient royal Chinese family language, that needs to be derived and spoken more of by more Chinese people these days, before it is forgotten.
