    Good to see you back! I was thinking maybe the novelty of doing comprehensive Hawker Centre reviews had worn off for you!! Re the new "hawkerpreneurs" - I totally agree that these days they all seem to aspire to having a chain of stalls. It's not that long ago that the lads who started off the Roast Paradise stall were new kids on the block but they have three stalls now. It seems to be all about getting your 'brand' recognised on social media as much as it does about putting out great quality food consistently. Not that it will stop me queuing up at the OAR stall when I'm in Singapore this year.

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah.. not that the new hawkerpreneurs are no good.. in fact.. their tenacity to perfect a certain dish have peeps coming over and over.. but I just don't like that over expanding feel to it. Seems like food preparation is coming out from some central kitchen. It runs like a corporation which lacks what traditional hawkers with each stall attributing some unique character. It's more of an even playing field. I'm not too sure what these new boys will do when they get too successful

    Used to be a cheap nasi briyani in the corner with very nice fried chicken and fried batter crumbs. That was my favourite place here, and I'd pick up chrysanthemum tea from the herbal tea stall. Sadly, I believe they were already gone by Covid though if not earlier. Beef horfun looks good. Will try if I ever end up there again. I remember Toast Hut and the western food place. I also remember there used to be at least two places with deep fried stuff like goreng pisang and sweet potatoes.

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes.. it seems like many familiar stalls have quietly disappeared 😕 or not open for biz. Was glad to have at least bought some Liang Teh this time round. Oh yah .. what happened to the goreng pisang stall too?!!

    The difference from my visit in 2019 compared to March this year (2023) is noticeable. I am assuming COVID sent some stall holders to the wall :( We are coming back next year and I will be interested to see.

      Same here. I was last there, apart from a couple of brief stopovers, in August 2019. I will be back for a proper 'eating holiday' in July/August this year so it will be interesting to see which stalls have changed hands or gone altogether.
