I was doing some metal detecting in my local area and found a Gothic Florin. Very worn sadly but I can make out the back very well. Unfortunately I am unable to see the numerals. One of my favourite finds regardless :).

They were probably still in circulation up till 1920 and you still find the odd ones in changes up until 1969 hence the amount of wear.

Didn't realise these were worth much.
My nan collected silver coins for years and gave me a pot full of mid 1800's to early 1900's florins on my 18th and I just stashed them away..
Probably time to check them over..
If I can remember where I put them..😮

Thanks for the viewing of some silver coins before the 1900s. I've only been collecting florins and pennies for about a month and already spent several thousand dollars.
The coins you showed were even more decorative than what I've seen, so guess I'll have to spend more. But then money is only good for one thing.

Ive managed to acquire some super Victorian and early George V silver crowns, half crowns, florins and one particularly nice double florin?
I must have about 20 good examples, and what I like is they have become an extension of my interest.
I dont have a gothic half crown or a decent William 'cutain' half crown, so just another few specimens to look out for.

The Victorian era answer to the 10 pence peice: 92.5% silver. Stunningly beautiful designs, Roman numbers, a truely gorgeous eye appeal. Todays answer to the 10 pence peice: sticks to a magnet. Rapidly becomes worn out. Becomes rusty looking after a few years.....

The last florin is obviously 1881.m=1000,d=500,ccc=300,lxxxi=81.It doesnt appear to be the xxri error,just weakly struck 3rd x.You can faintly see the bottom left part of the x.
