I don't know about California. I know here in the Mid-West there's 3 people who look over 4 states. You can make a complaint, and you'll be lucky if they see it within 3 years.
Also wanna throw out there this is why educating yourself even a little is important. I'm not saying everyone should be a tech. Just check out some sanitation laws in your state.
@@litterbyy I get what you're saying, but California doesn't have more of a population than Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan combined. This region has about 2 million more people. California does more closely follow regulations on EVERYTHING than the rest of the country, but I feel like California probably has more nail salons per capita. My point is just feel free to file a complaint, but don't rely on it doing any real good.
Wow that’s terrible!! I’ve always been too scared to get a pedicure bc the thought of not knowing whether the tools are reused and/or not properly sanitized
Many nail salons where I live clean tools inside the water before they disinfect them. I never go to them for those reasons. I got a nail infection from them and never went back. 🤦🏽♀️
I went to get a mani/pedi a few weeks ago, and I did notice that the nail lady would just rinse the tools in the water like in here and put the tools back in the drawer, and after she filed and cut off that skin on my fingernail cuticles, she had a little device where you fill it with water and put all fingernails in, I guess to soak the nail, and when she was done with that she dumped all that dirty water filled with skin on the tub in my feet and I guessed that wasn’t supposed to be done and I thought it was gross, and I did get ingrown toenails on both of my feet. Definitely not going back again
Right? I've been to nail places that cost 60$+ and got crooked nails and they didn't even get the colour right. Went to a place that charged 30, and got perfect nails every time
I agree with that. You just have to check the reviews I think. Sometimes the higher priced places do horrible jobs because they have a lot of workers who don't have very good training while other salons may charge less but they have less workers who have excellent training. Even if the salon doesn't look like a "spa resort", for me as long as it is clean, tools are cleaned professionally, they are friendly (customer service and all) and they do a good job and treat you well I would continue to go there. I've been to fancy schmancy nail salons that went horribly and over-priced for a half ass job that I ended up getting nail fungus from. I went to a not so fancy nail salon after that and they didn't over charge me and actually fixed the fungus and taught me what to look for so I've been going there ever since.

I think it’s extremely important to share this education on cleanliness with the general population. It’s not just gross, it’s dangerous. Re-using tools, improper foot bath sanitization etc. can spread hepatitis C, fungus, etc. You did a wonderful job of shedding light into the dangerous practices of these express nail salons.
You can get gangrene from blood infection. I just realized my nail place did half this stuff. I'm phlebotomy trained so this is horrifying even I didn't think about it cuz I was not looking out for it
Kaitlyn Nevill Please be advised that HIV, onychomycosis/fungal infection, and ring worm can be transferred due to not properly disinfecting tools. Many of the workers are not licensed and the state board of cosmetology cannot keep up with unlicensed workers because they travel from salon to salon.
Nice video. Not everyone knows how dangerous those things can be. You can get all sorts of staff infections if the skin is broken, and a diabetic could actually vet gangrene and lose a toe &/or foot!
You should go to the best rated salon and show us all the things they do right! Then you can show us all the things we should expect from a good salon. This was a great video! I subscribed! Thanks for taking the time to make it :)
best rated may not always mean they do it all right....they just may be better at covering things up. i know what you mean and i think it be good to do too.
@@sarahmyers3889 If your the only one using it, then it's not disgusting. It's a wonderful step of reuse or recycle. A new one is given though if you don't bring in the old one. It helps in cost to the salon, your health, and less landfill waste for a time.
Women & Women First you should never let your clients take home used files and buffers! If they put that in their drawer and their hubby or kid use them and have a fungus or athlete foot , and they bring that back to you! You are now the last place they went to and your going to get a complaint about your salon and possibly a visit from the state. I’ll never take a chance with my license.
@@beautifulirawo1900 Idk what the rules are in the usa but here in the netherlands we cannot use the same file twice, new buffblock, clean towel for every customer, we have to desinfect every single tool we used, like cuticle pushers (idk if i said that right in english lol), uv/led lamp has to be desinfected after each customer, and check if the person who does your nails washed and desinfected their hands before they start their manicure/pedicure because sometimes they don't and that could cause infections too 😣
I'm a licensed cosmetologist and I'm so tempted to just make a video going to a hair salon and asking for something simple like a wash and blow dry and see what happens.
I go to a nail place regularly, and I just realized how unsanitary it is. I didn't notice it at first because I was always on my phone, and my nails always came out pretty good so I kept going there
Out of sight out of mind 🥰 and ya know what the worst part it's probably the OWNER putting pressure on the employees to not throw out items that are still usable and in order for them to do their job and get paid is to do this sort of thing they are doing. That's the sad party. Don't blame them girls until you know it's them doing it and not their boss or owners making them do this.
I honestly thought this video was just going to be complaining on the wait and on how thick the nails look or on how ugly the nails came out but I was surprised your video is different and informative about everything they were doing wrong 👏🏻
Pricilla Salvador In a way yeah, but many people who do these videos go into the salons with a negative mindset just cause of the reviews instead of judging it fairly. Like as soon as they walk in they start making faces and complaining even if nothing has happened. Like they automatically start talking shit even if it's not THAT bad. So this was actually informative and fair instead of just complaining and talking trash.
I don't think you're supposed to do that in California either. I only know because I got a manicure at a beauty school and I actually asked them to cut my cuticles, and they said they can't.
It’s illegal in all of the states as well. Doesn’t matter where you go, they *should* refuse to cut cuticles, but some still do ‘cause they’re either fucking idiots or don’t care
@@sav7300 It is not illegal to cut cuticles. It is illegal to cut living tissue. But cuticle is the dead tissue built up on and around the nail and eponychium, and that's the only tissue that techs are allowed to touch and remove in the states
Adrienne Hagen in some states, it’s considered a surgical procedure to remove cuticles, hence why I said it’s illegal. Guess what nail techs are? Not surgeons!
She was definitely reusing without cleaning. At my previous salon, we would do the same(rinse in jet, in front of pedi after use) but take it to the back after a pedi to put in their own bin and clean them, let them dry for a day. I'm now somewhere where they just replace them after each use🤞
Glad you did this but I hate the term chop shop so much. I’m Vietnamese American and I’ve been a licensed technician for over 17 years. When I was in cos school they had a entire chapter dedicated to talking about these horrible “chop shops” and it was super obvious they were clearly just talking about Asian owned salons. I still think of that to this day. It sucked having to sit there and learn about how much my family was “ruining the salon business for everyone else”
That was horrific. Do nail salons not get inspected by anyone to make sure they're running it properly? I've been to a salon that opened a packaged of new tools in front of me.
Yeah but usually nail salons know each other in the area so when a state board inspector goes to one the salon let's all the other salons know so they can hide their dirty stuff and mma and tell workers who aren't licensed to leave for the day.
Rae Lily you just pay less attention to someone’s voice. it’s a voice, why tf would someone pay hundreds of dollars for therapy bc of a yt comment? btw her eyebrows are cute lol
If they use metal implements, they are supposed to wash them thoroughly with soap and warm water, then placed in an EPA registered disinfectant (most commonly used is barbicide and its a blue liquid) and they must sit in it for 10 minutes at least.
That’s what sanitizing is for, you clean and sanitize anything you just used on someone your gonna be using on someone else if it can be sanitized if it can’t be sanitized, then you shouldn’t be using it unless you don’t care about throwing it away and replacing with new one
Girl THANK YOU for this video as a full blown OCD germ-a-phob I've only gotten TWO pedicures done in all my 30 years and both were at the same place by the same person and because of places EXACTLY LIKE THESE I haven't had one in almost 8 1/2 years but having an actual pro go a step further and educate and warn about things us non nail techs have no clue about and would have otherwise missed is literally a God send and God bless you for putting yourselfself through that cringe worthy of torture just to help all of us not have to 🙇🙌🙌💜💜
I used to bring my own, until I finally found a place that used new tools on every customer. They also used these plastic bags that went into the pedicure tub thingy that they would throw away once you were done. Definitely try and find a place like that in your area!!
Did you report them to the proper authorities? THAT is why they do what they do; because people who know better, let them get away with it! ~ I must say, however, that I loved your video. You are knowledgeable and informative... so refreshing! Great job!
In my state cuticle cutting is considered a surgical procedure. It is illegal, and you are never to cut live skin tussue. Also the thing you call a cuticle is not a cuticle is called eponychium, which helps keep bacteria from entering the body. It is also live skin tissue. I am also licensed nail technician. Maybe it's because you live states, but definitely illegal in mine.
That's gross though, if I don't cut my cuticles they grow and grow and grow to like 1/4th of my nail bed. You can't just leave it there if you did it would look like 1/4th of the nail isn't painted....and if you pushed it back you'd just have a huge chunk of flapping skin.
They grow like that because you cut them and your body's defense mechanism tells your body to grow them back. I have pushed back my eponychium after a shower since i was a child. Pushing back and removing actual cuticle, (dead skin connected to nails plate) , this stunts them from growing. And if it flapping it no longer alive and considered a hang nail. Also if it that bad you can use a file. Which has LESS of a chance at cutting you. You are more then welcome to cut your own skin but i prefer to follow standard precautions ie all blood i contaminated you do not do anything that may draw blood
I mean anyone who knows that things are unsanitary and DANGEROUS, but doesn’t report it is just as bad as the perpetrators lol so I hope you actually did something about the HEALTH HAZARD rather than just uploading it to TH-cam. As a bystander, you’re also responsible,e for other people getting hurt from this nasty shit so hopefully you didn’t just care about the views
Oh my goodness ........ I felt sick.. They need someone to go in there from state board ... Reusing pedi tools..NOOOOOOOOOOOO..... ... PLEASE report these people. I live in the uk and I know we're are creaking down in none stranded salons(nns) do they still use mma in the states sweet?, thanks for share xxxx
I'm not licensed yet, about to take my state board in a week or two, as far as I know, mma is illegal to use in the States. Or at least in most states. But I'm sure a lot of salons still use it because it's impossible to soak off their acrylic nails.
Good luck with your exams sweet I'm sure you'll smash it, you very need help you'll fine on insta sweet... It's awful the way salon are still using and reusing items/products that are not expensive to replace, change from mma to high standard products... What products are you happing to work with?, you have great range in the states, I look forward to seeing more nails from you pet.. Have a great day... 💜
Fun_with_my_nails Macauly - MMA is illegal in beauty salons here and has been since the 1970’s. Unfortunately because in liquid form it’s poison but cured it’s fine they still use it to make dental implants and that’s why it’s referred to as “dental acrylic” as well as MMA. So, because it’s still used for that it’s legal to get here and a lot of the walk in/Asian salons still use it. One of nail instructors in school is Vietnamese and what she told us is the owner keeps the jugs at home and fills the containers there so when the board comes in they don’t see they are using MMA. Right now California isn’t testing the monomer when they do their checks so they get away with it.
@@tinamac.nailartistmacaulay2661, thank you. I'm super nervous about the written part of it. I use mia secret, asp (just because I have it) and Naio nails. You should totally come up to Seattle and go to the Apollo nails and spa, I worked there as a receptionist but we have over 20+ nail techs at just the location I worked at (capital hill location) we sanitize every chair and autoclave and sterilize our tools for every client. We even open the sterilized bag in front of you. New buffers and nail files of course. There will definitely be someone who can cut your nails straight and cut all your cuticles. Let me know if you want a recommendation for a nail tech. Also we train our new incoming nail techs for as long as they need to get up to our standards before they work on clients so there should be no issue with your polish.
I'm in the middle of doing my manicure/pedicure course. Everything in this video at that salon was disgusting. In my mind, anything that can be sanitized should be done in an autoclave. Which means new packaging. Which proves it's been sanitized. I'm hoping to get one for my home spa I've created. Currently I'm using CS20 wet sanitizer solution. Along with a scrub with soap and warm water first. And ALWAYS a new disposable file, in the plastic wrap, in front of the client. These 'sweat shops' should be illegal. Or at least checked by the health and safety board monthly. Keep them on their toes!!!!
I have gotten my nails done in Washington state and in Oregon. Oregon requires the customer to either bring their own disposable or to purchase a set from the salon. Washington doesn't require it but I bring my own disposable set along with my own metal tools (which I disinfect before and after every use) because I'm diabetic. If they don't want to use my tools, I will go somewhere else.
You are very polite and I like listening to you. I think this is my favourite worst rated salon video. I hope you didn’t have any adverse health effects
After attending cosmetology school, I am absolutely disgusted by some of the previous salons I have visited. The salons I went to did not follow proper safety and sanitation. I just am disgusted at how these salons get away with these things.
I had no idea that was the law. I wish nail techs were regulated like doctors and other cosmetics are. My horror story was getting a cheap mani pedi for 25$. Lady cut me - hurt like hell on my big toe. Had to go get antibiotics because I got a bacterial infxn. and she cut my toes wrong - so to prevent ingrown toe nails I was doing my own toe maintenance every had. Best story - in hawaii at a japanese nail salon - they GIVE YOU your tools when they are done. lIke the nail filer and everything. Best experience ever for 120$. Mani pedi with deigns. SUper expensive but got a special foot scrub thing done. My nails were perfect. but have never gone back to a nail salon after the bacterial infection because I was traumatized.
Cosmetics are not regulated, only certain ingredients are banned if they are found to be unsafe, but as a whole they are not regulated. The FDA only regulates non-food products that are classified as drugs or as medical devices, and since most skincare and cosmetics do not have active ingredients nor are they medical devices they are not under FDA scrutiny. The ones that are classified as drugs have specific labeling requirements and/or may require prescription, like tretinoin. The more you know, and all that.
whoops. ignore the comment I removed. it was for something else. FDA should regulate nail salons more because of health risks. I know in australia they try to shut down these places that bring over dangerous banned products from china, to use on clients who think they are getting something else. Which is scary. I mean I knew a nail salon that would refill opi nail polish bottles with cheaper nail polish - sketchy.
California state board is really starting to crack down on hair salons, spas, and nail salons since these kind of videos have started going viral (thank god). I’m a licensed cosmetologist currently working in a hair salon and if you’re clean and following regs there is nothing to worry about. These videos scare me, because with access to whole sale pricing there is no excuse to reuse disposables. While I was in school we always stressed that disposable files and pumice stones were to be put in the trash (in front of the guest) or offer it to them; clean products were to come from sealed factory packaging or labeled clean container (and if someone asked to look at them to inspect them, show them).
🤢 🤢 🤢 If they don’t have $0.20 for a pumice stone I doubt they have an autoclave 🤢 If I wanted a fungal infection I can just go barefoot at the public pool or gym lmao no thanks
this is nottt gooood, Tammy Taylor has a whole line of one time use, adhesive files, pumice stone type adhesives, and buffers, and she designs "one time only" use items, it is possible
Cosmetology tools do not have to be sterilized only disinfected. You cannot sterilize nor disinfect porous materials like pumice stones and nail files though.
have you traveled abroad before and gotten a mani/pedi? i'm studying abroad in spain and it's SO cheap here. I get a gel manicure for 12 euros and a pedicure for 10. AND it's one of the best i've ever gotten!! super clean places--used all disposable files and toe separators. aaaand they take their SWEET time. I found my favorite place here in Spain, but I would be interested to explore more in my city here and see if it's different at other places
Ive never been to a nail salon in my life. I feel im the only girl i know whose never gotten a manicure or anything 😭😭 but watching all these and hearing your informative review from a nail techs perspective of how alot of nail salons arent clean is making me not excited to go anytime soon LOL.
I’ve only been 3 times, and trust me girl, you’re not missing anything. Going once is justifiable, but honestly going more than once is a waste of time and money.
I find it so funny how the nail tech who did your pedi was wearing gloves, but none of the tools were sanitised or cleaned properly. I was like sick to my stomach watching her do your toes. And that salon looked like it had never been cleaned ever.
I'm in school for becoming a Esthetician and we were taught NEVER to get a wax from a nail salon. They double dip and they don't change their wax. A lot of swamping happens there.
This was not only entertaining, but very educational. It felt like I was watching a Dateline undercover story! Anyway, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, as I now know what to look out for at my salon.
Ive never had a pedicure because I am afraid I don't know enough about nails salon sanitation to understand how to pick a good one or what to look for. This made me so afraid because I would NEVER know that those things are unsanitary because I have no idea about nail tech stuff and have never been. Please can people who are educated on this topics make like a what to look for video in choosing a nail salon!?
Go into the salon and ask questions. Look at their reviews. Ask if they sanitize and disinfect tools and how it is done, ask them if they use new files on everyone. They will see that you care about that and make sure they do everything right. I feel like some places take advantage of people who dont seem to know much like in this video which she was acting not to know anything and just went with it
Thank you for doing this lol I am also a licensed nail tech, my first nail job was in a salon like this. I did not stay long because they were breaking so many laws and I was not going to be a part of that!
Omg I can totally relate to missing out on the “me time” for mani and pedi. I’m a nail tech in Ohio and I’m tired of wasting my time going in for half assed services. I gave up and just do it myself. 😫
You can actually buy pumice stones at the dollar store and they're not too bad. I don't know much about nail salons but I have been to nail suppliers and they have great deals. $20 sounds like enough to buy new pumice stones and nail files?!
@@ElegantSkies yea but they randomly get inspected every year by state board to make sure their practices are in line with the states requirements for procedures and sanitation.. I just dont get how they keep passing
There are so many salons and so few state board employees in comparison. I live in the midwest, and the same thing happens here. Dozens of nail salons per decent sized town, so many of them have less than three stars for cleanliness from the average, untrained customer
In California there are only like 10 inspectors for the entire state (keep in mind it takes like 9 hours to drive from top to bottom). State board takes complaints seriously, not yelp reviews. Always ask to see licenses and if you feel something is up contact state board.
I clicked on this because It randomly popped up..and I've been meaning to get back into getting a pedicure and my gel nails again (Had to stop for a few months because budgeting)....glad I did..I've learned so much! Now I'm looking for a better place to go too!
So no nail tech is supposed to cut ur cuticle when you go in for a mani or pedi? So wth was she talking about with that guy that didn't cut hers so she whipped out her mani kit?
We remove the dead skin with the cuticle nipper but the band of skin that is living that is called the cuticle is not to be removed. In my state we are allowed to use diamond efile tips for cuticles as well. But we are not allowed to break living skin.
Omg. I used to work at a nail salon and we would NEVER do that. Just..... ew. The techs always sanitized metal tools and used new buffers etc. and the pedis were the same price, $20.
Omg... I kept passing this video. Glad I decided to watch it bc you pointed out some things I would have never paid attention to. I just assume people are doing it the right way. This makes me think twice about going to any salon. Thanks for the video
Thank you for taking the time to make this video!!! I wish someone in Athens, Alabama would go to the ones here! I used to go to this one place and the technician was awesome! That was back in 2011- 2014. In October of 2018, I decided I was going to go have my nails done again. I went to a place called Diva Nails. EVERYTIME EXCEPT THE LAST TIME I WENT IN, THE TECHNICIAN CUT MY FINGERS TO THE POINT OF BLEEDING AND TAKING A FEW CHUNKS OF MEAT AND I MEAN MEAT!! They have never taken my acrylics off properly. When I went back the second time to have them done, I wanted the acrylic tips off and mine had grown out so I wanted an acrylic overlay. I couldn't even get that because she kept trying to pry off all the old stuff and broke almost all my OWN nails way back into the quick. When they filed my nails and used the dremel tool, they kept on until my nail beds were actually burning. I know that's not normal. To go and be in pain each time? WTH?? Last time I went in was in beginning of March. I got a male finally. And he has been the second male (first male who did my nails, the owner, he didn't hurt or cut me either) to do my nails there, didn't hurt me or cut me. Or burn my nail beds from using that dremel tool. He was the ONLY ONE WHO GAVE ME A PUMP OF LOTION. I have not been back there since. I'd love to see what is actually supposed to happen and exactly how they do it when you get tips with acrylic. 🧐And I'd love to see exactly what the proper way to remove them are. Thanks again!! Hope you have a wonderful day/week/year!! 🤜🤛🧐
I live in California & ive been to many many salons and ive never had a tech use a disposable file. It's never occurred to me that they should even have one and I feel so nasty that i didn't. Thanks for this!
You should of told them and brought your nail thingy in so you can actually make them change all of that because you dont want anyone else to get infected. And dont want anyone else to feel what you felt
I am hoping Jenia sees this comment but most of all I hope she already knows that a lot of these nail techs at these "on the corner" salons are victims of human trafficking. It's something that no one talks about but we are all somewhat okay with. Look up the definition of indentured servitude. Most of these nail techs get told that they have jobs waiting for them in the US and when they get here are told that they are in debt for the cost of travel, boarding, and state licensing for 10-15 years. The housing often consists of one apartment with 6 people sharing a single bedroom. Sorry she got a bad pedicure but she should use this platform as a learning experience and bring this issue to light.
My mother once got a horrible infection because a guy doing her pedicure cut her toe. She hasn't gone back there. Ever since, we've been going to a different place which is extremely sanitary. Whenever we go, they physically open a new set of sanitized tools and such for each client (it's like in a bag thing). They're wonderful and amazing!
My nail salon reused stuff like pumice stones all the time lol. You can get your own individual kit if you want but it costs extra. I guess I never really noticed how unsanitary it is
Im a nail tech too and watching those videos of everyone else makes me cringe, especially when they show the tools and whatnot. People really need to do their research and if the salon feels or looks dirty, especially the tools, its time to get up and leave.
There's a lady in my town who is a nail tech and she started her business from home. She had so many drawers, and each drawer had her clients name on it. every client got a new set of tools and she kept them in that customer's drawer. She never reused anything on someone else. You got your own everything right down to a drill bit. She was on point with her hygiene techniques. I have never ever ever ever seen any other nail techs make sure each customer has their own tools. And she does great work.
You seem like such a beautiful and sweet person- I love your voice, it’s very calming and nice to listen to. And your makeup is gorgeous- loved your video 👍
Great video and very informative! I’ve always heard people preach about never cutting your cuticles. Is it a myth that it’s bad for your nails? It would be great to see a video on common nail misconceptions or even a basic nail care video from a licensed nail tech!
Isabella G you aren’t supposed to cut your eponychium, you take off the “cuticle” which is just the dead skin on your nail plate, there should rarely be cutting, lol. If you cut your eponychium it will grow back thicker & it’s not safe for you.
Girl I feel you! I’m a licensed nail tech myself, and whenever I cave in and go get my nails done because I want to get pampered once in a while.. nope I end up pissed off every time because I can see all their unsanitary tools it killlls me everytime! Never fails..
I really enjoyed your video, you did a great job. Howerver, I want to say,as a licensed nail tech, you can use an e-file with disposable sanding bits, on a low speed and if a new bit is used every time and the efile is properly cleaned after each client it is absolutely ok. Thank you for your video, great job!
I live in Southern CA. The nail salon I go to gives you the files to take home with you. The metal reusable tools they do use are autoclaved. They are super awesome there and I've never had a problem. There are tons of bad places around me though. You look at them and get an infection 😂
I want to truly say thank you for this, Jenia. I booked an appointment with a real professional and the difference in basic hygiene is shocking. I will never go back to a quick, cheap nail salon. (I'm in Indiana.)
You should really report them to state board. They could cause some MAJOR health issues with other clients, especially the elderly and the young
I don't know about California. I know here in the Mid-West there's 3 people who look over 4 states. You can make a complaint, and you'll be lucky if they see it within 3 years.

Hope she reports them
You can get gangrene from blood infection.

@@sarahmyers3889 If your the only one using it, then it's not disgusting. It's a wonderful step of reuse or recycle. A new one is given though if you don't bring in the old one. It helps in cost to the salon, your health, and less landfill waste for a time.
Women & Women First nah girl that’s called saving the earth

What are some things to look out 4
@@beautifulirawo1900 Idk what the rules are in the usa but here in the netherlands we cannot use the same file twice, new buffblock, clean towel for every customer, we have to desinfect every single tool we used, like cuticle pushers (idk if i said that right in english lol), uv/led lamp has to be desinfected after each customer, and check if the person who does your nails washed and desinfected their hands before they start their manicure/pedicure because sometimes they don't and that could cause infections too 😣

Yasmina 315 isn’t that the point of these review videos
Pricilla Salvador
In a way yeah, but many people who do these videos go into the salons with a negative mindset just cause of the reviews instead of judging it fairly. Like as soon as they walk in they start making faces and complaining even if nothing has happened. Like they automatically start talking shit even if it's not THAT bad. In my country (Netherlands) its illegal for salons to cut cuticles bc they can get infected if done improperly or unhygienic.
Aurora Albin so is in Germany because of the same reason.

Oh my word. 9:47 I died. She RINSED the pumice stone in the foot bath? Wowwww.
Chop shops are known for being unsanitary and cheap. All races can own them.
That was horrific. Do nail salons not get inspected by anyone to make sure they're running it properly? I've been to a salon that opened a packaged of new tools in front of me.

That’s what sanitizing is for, you clean and sanitize anything you just used on someone your gonna be using on someone else if it can be sanitized if it can’t be sanitized, then you shouldn’t be using it unless you don’t care about throwing it away and replacing with new one

Great job!
I hope she did. People can get really nasty infections
Anyone can report them. You can just called the department of health on them.
Yea , who cares about bacteria and infections it's more important to look good.
Patri Rusu lord
They grow like that because you cut them and your body's defense mechanism tells your body to grow them back. I have pushed back my eponychium after a shower since i was a child. Pushing back and removing actual cuticle, (dead skin connected to nails plate) , this stunts them from growing. And if it flapping it no longer alive and considered a hang nail. Also if it that bad you can use a file. Which has LESS of a chance at cutting you. You are more then welcome to cut your own skin but i prefer to follow standard precautions ie all blood i contaminated you do not do anything that may draw blood
I have literally never cut them. Ever. And mine don’t grow. 🤷🏼♀️

I'm not licensed yet, about to take my state board in a week or two, as far as I know, mma is illegal to use in the States. Or at least in most states. But I'm sure a lot of salons still use it because it's impossible to soak off their acrylic nails.

Every nail salon I go to where I live does this. Lmaoooo. Every. Single. One. Not a single place can I go to that know wtf they are doing.
Yep! There ain't a good one near me ! I learned how to do my own.

🤢 🤢 🤢
If they don’t have $0.20 for a pumice stone I doubt they have an autoclave 🤢
If I wanted a fungal infection I can just go barefoot at the public pool or gym lmao no thanks
You don't need an autoclave for mani/pedi tools. They only need to use barbicide
this is nottt gooood, Tammy Taylor has a whole line of one time use, adhesive files, pumice stone type adhesives, and buffers, and she designs "one time only" use items, it is possible
Cosmetology tools do not have to be sterilized only disinfected. You cannot sterilize nor disinfect porous materials like pumice stones and nail files though.

In California there are only like 10 inspectors for the entire state (keep in mind it takes like 9 hours to drive from top to bottom). State board takes complaints seriously, not yelp reviews. Always ask to see licenses and if you feel something is up contact state board.

As another nail tech I like this idea! I wish this kind of salon would stop and be close it hurt us good nails technician
Sorry she got a bad pedicure but she should use this platform as a learning experience and bring this issue to light.
you are right. it does happen but its hard to tell whos a victim or not. if they dont speak any English chances are they are one of those ppl.
I had no idea this was a thing I wished people were better informed about this.
I guess I never really noticed how unsanitary it is
Omg!!! That's how you contract fungis. Do you know how hard it is to get rid of fungis!!! Ahhhhh! I'm freaking sick of these wack shops.
Yo Mama they have to cut it off. HUEH!
Im a nail tech too and watching those videos of everyone else makes me cringe, especially when they show the tools and whatnot. People really need to do their research and if the salon feels or looks dirty, especially the tools, its time to get up and leave.
Best commentary: “....human juices???...” 😂😂😂 Good video!!
Thank you for sharing! I’m a certified nail tech too, so I couldn’t wait to see this... 😳 You are a BRAVE one.
P.S. You are so cute!!
You seem like such a beautiful and sweet person- I love your voice, it’s very calming and nice to listen to. And your makeup is gorgeous- loved your video 👍
Fine TH-cam, I clicked on it. Are you happy now?
I went to a “Nailerry” in Brooklyn, NY.. and they dried my feet with paper towels .. I was soooo confused .. and they used tissue to separate my toes.
I live in Southern CA. The nail salon I go to gives you the files to take home with you. The metal reusable tools they do use are autoclaved. They are super awesome there and I've never had a problem.
There are tons of bad places around me though. You look at them and get an infection 😂
The way you speak is so cute and your voice reminds me of Eugenia Cooney or Bee from "Bee and Puppy Cat"!
I want to truly say thank you for this, Jenia. I booked an appointment with a real professional and the difference in basic hygiene is shocking. I will never go back to a quick, cheap nail salon. (I'm in Indiana.)
as a licensed cosmetologist whenever i go to nail salons i’m always making mental notes of everything that’s wrong in the salon. there can be a LOT 🤢
Yay a fellow cosmetology gal 🙌 expose them girl! 🔥🔥🔥
What happened to part 2!?! I was in the middle of watching it when it got removed or something happened to it!!

I have no idea where it went... but I think it’s back...
The company might have seen it and tried to file a false copyright strike
