@Gabriel Mota he could also sleep thigns fairly easily. if he outspeeds them and sleeps them, then solar beam hells them? could possibly help if he strategized well enough

@@nustacular hidden power may have been better depending on which one it was. Psychic for Agatha would of been pretty good so you don’t have to rely on resisted grass stabs for her ghost
12:10 You're thinking of Gen 1. In every gen after Gen 2, it only ignores stat changes that decrease damage (if your attack has been lowered or the target's defense has been raised). Growth will still increase the power of your crits. Remember, if something is in Gen 1 and sound sounds like a bug, that's because it's a bug. Really, all things considered, it might have actually been a better play to get rid of Return for Thief so you could have used Growth to power up both Razor Leaf and Thief.
12:10 - Untrue. Critical hits have had a *really* inconsistent history, with rules changing from what is/isn't ignored to what will/will not boost the odds. But from Gen 3 onward this part of the rules is pretty simple: Critical Hits will ignore anything that might reduce the damage you would do unless you're burned and using a physical attack. That's it. So if your opponent has high (Sp or not) defense (regardless of whether it's something like Reflect/Barrier) it will be ignored, but if they have *lowered* defense, it will *add* to the move's power. Same with ATK. Your lowered ATK/SpATK will be ignored (except via a burn), but higher ATK/SpATK will increase damage. With all of this being applied on top of the existing crit damage. Source: bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Critical_hit#Damage_2
I'd still love to see an HM slave run: Any pokemon in any generation that can learn at least 4 HM's one of which must be the first HM given in the game. Once you have the first HM then you can only use HM moves in trainer battles.
Also, Mr. Bread, I feel you should have gotten the Sunny Day TM. That doubles Bellsprout's speed, and Flamethrower kills you anyway, so there's no harm in it
Another thought that may help with some runs: Focus Band has a 12% chance if preventing any attack against the holder from causing a faint (like the move Endure). I think it could have helped with some of those Charizard battles. I don't know where to get one in Fr/Lg tho.
I don't recall, have you done a gen 4 run yet? If so, HGSS with Spearow or Togepi might be interesting. Spearow because of the often 'stolen' Spearow, Togepi because it being the first ever Pokémon Egg obtained in Pokémon. Otherwise, I love the runs where you don't (just) use a specific Pokémon, but a theme most. The only trades, Metronome, without new moves etc. The runs with specific Pokémon are still lots of fun to watch, of course, but the ones with a theme feel more exciting, more original and more fun. Either way, hope you have a great day, always fun to see one of your vids pop up in my sub box ^^
12:12 You're thinking of gen 1. Afterwards the crits only nulifies stat changes who could lower your damage (defense boosts and attack drops). Still, Bellsprout was just so much better in RBY because the insane crit chance of razor leaf, swords dance + badge boost glitch + wrap, growth being calm mind in gen 1 and the AI being kind to you when playing a poison type.
What about a challenge-run with only a ditto in gen 5. You can give it the hidden ability, which means it transforms instantly in the first enemy Pokémon. That means you have to transition every battle into new strategies. Sounds fun to me :D
But then he won't be able to use struggle, and sometimes the first pokemon from a battle isn't strong enough to beat the remaining team. It's actually easier before gen 5 so struggle is an easier option.
I can’t believe he beat the entire game with a freakin’ bellsprout! I personally like fire types as my main so you can imagine how often and my delight in burning grass Pokémon to death but NOOO MDB had to come in and completely DISRESPECT every opponent in the game. I cry. Well done!!!
A different idea for once: Pick a random Gen and a random route out of that Region. Now go on that route and the first pokemon you run into, you do a challenge with. Its gonna be a different approach on your challenges, but a change after over a year might be fun.
@@BWalfall thats different tho right? They can have full teams, and I guess its a Nuzlocke right? With this challenge it would be 1 Pokemon for the whole game, nothing else.
I'm still looking forward to an Absol only run in gen 3. Dark type is special in that game, and Absol is a physical sweeper. Planning to do this run myself and upload it here soon, but I would LOVE to see you do it!
He can just set up swords dance and sweep with other physical moves; they don't have to be STAB. Think: +2 of any physical attack has a bigger damage multiplier than the 1.5x multiplier STAB offers.
Sneasel would be worse, it’s one of the gen 2 “Pokémon that had bad stats and no evo for some reason” mons that got evos in gen 4, but it’s a physical sweeper and it’s stab is special
Finally completed my challenged and watched every challenge you've done Watching this was an experience I learned so much more about every generation of pokemon from the 1st to 5th
Having been binging on your videos, I’m going to put forward the challenge of Gold/Silver with only version exclusives. Technically, this run could be done in any gen; I just feel gen2 would be the most interesting one.
challenge suggestion: I’d love to see pokemon emerald with only cradily or both first form fossils if that’s too easy/hard. I really like the fossils from hoenn and would love a challenge based off them.
to clarify I meant he could do either just cradily or lileep and anorith together if just lileep is either too difficult or too easy. Just something to do with the hoenn fossils would be cool.
@@Kruzrfam He'd just as soon simply use one of the baby fossils in a solo run. It doesn't matter how hard the run is, he'll persevere. That's just the type of person he is.
Challange idea: Pokemon Gold with only a single Ledyba (named "Spinarak" because that's hilarious, of course). Alternatively, Pokemon Red/Fire Red with only one Goldeen, for maximum Peck/Horn Attack value.
Love the challenges tryed a couple my self. I have an idea for a challenge. you have limited base stats either you can't use Pokémon with higher base stats of 300 or the team can have a combined based stats of 1,200.
Idk what I’d do if I didn’t see the whole “I took the x fossil....” bit. Definitely my quote for 2020 cause this dude has been on my recommended on TH-cam for a while and now 3 months later, I’m here just binge watching this stuff. Great content my guy!
For the Rival 6 fight, just before Victory Road, it seems bellsprout may have out-speeded charizard without the quick claw. At level 50, (so a bit off, since it's 53), it can have a max speed of 167, though that includes perfect IVs, beneficial nature, and max EVs in speed. My math may not be perfect, but taking away the EVs, and the 10% boost from a beneficial nature, it would have a speed of 119 with perfect IVs. I'm unsure if it could have perfect IVs, so seeing as bellsprout had 116, it may have actually out-speeded on its own
Another great run! Really didn't think it was possible but you did it. It's so much fun to watch these. Thban you for making my days better. I think a Gen 3 run with Barboach would be a fun run that would be harder than you'd think.
Genuine question: why didnt you try using Sleep Powder then Sunny Day to outspeed everything? Seemed like the other option when there was "no other option other than double team." Also which fossil did you take??
if Charizard survived a razorleaf or return or solarbeam, woke up from his sleep, and used Flamethrower, its an instant loss whether the Sun is out or not. Double Team has a much higher chance of stopping that completely, because Charizard double resists grass, so Solarbeam isnt gonna do very much damage.
@@steveh1474 He could've gone sleep powder, solarbeam, sunny day, growth Sleep the first mon, sunny day, 3 growths to get to +6 SPA, and solarbeam OHKOs everything, even Charizard. Would require some luck, but nothing too crazy. Or even if it doesn't OHKO, you're faster and can put anything to sleep as long as you manage the sun well.
Because Bellsprout is the version exclusive for Leafgreen and Oddish is the version exclusive of Firered(im not sure maybe its vice versa) but that's why he named it oddish.

I think people dislike Double Team, because it can be done with every Pokémon, so it's always possible. Sleep Powder on the other hand, can only be learned by some Pokémons and Spore is straight up rare. I vote for Pokémon Crystal using only 1 - 6 Smeargle.

@toxicocomelonfan •19 years ago A STAB, 1/2 effective Solar Beam would deal slightly more damage than a non-STAB, x2 super effective Thief. 40 * 2 = 80 120 * 0.5 = 60 * 1.5 = 90
You can't even begin to imagine how much I love that Mah-Dry-Bread says rival fival once every video, it always makes me super happy. I'm not even sure why. Oh, btw what fossil did you take again?
I love it too. For me, it reinforces that the different Pokemon TH-camrs are not necessarily rivals or dislike each other - just people doing their own thing alongside each other. We can all get along and learn to love jokes or quirks from other communities/fanbases. I remember Jrose admitted he and Mah Dry Bread get along and I've heard both of them admit they need to do a meetup as they live close by each other. For me, hearing rival fival sorta reaffirms that we can all get along - regardless of what TH-camr we 'prefer.'

Outspeed everything thanks to chlorophyll in addition to your double-digit level advantage. Solar beam or return the crap out of things until you hit a wall in the form of Charizard (you're walled by steel-types but the only steel type in the game pre-champion is magnemite and magneton, both having poor sp. def). Pray that sleep powder doesn't miss the flying nightmare in front of you. Possibly win.
Dry Bread you should do Spheal only in Emerald or Platinum! it would have an easy early game but a hard time later on due to bad stats and the typing of later gyms. I used one in a Platinum randomizer and I had a really hard time with it until it evolved right before I fought Crasher Wake
It is possible to level up in the Elite 4 without losing hapiness points You just even it out with carbos', calciums, irons etc. It also helps the stats, since items outside of battle are allowed. It's always nice to see a run without having to hit level 100. Stat improve items and attacks are crucial!
Hey MDB I don't know if anyone already posted this, I couldn't find it in the top comments, but in every game after Gen 1, Crits only bypass the stat changes if they are bad for the one attacking. If for example, 2 pokemon are repeatedly using calm mind, then one of them crits a confusion, it will ignore the buffed defense of the opponent, but the attacker's buffed special attack will be used in the calculation. Only in Gen 1 did it bypass all stats including good ones.
12:12 Crits only ignore negative stat changes. So it actually deals more damage if you boost your attack or special attack and then get a crit. When your Attack or Special Attack stat is lowered the crit will ignore these changes and you deal the same damage as if your stat isn't lowered and your attack crits. Crits ignore the opponents defensive statboosts. (But only positive changes by calm mind or so) When the targets defensive stats are lowered and you get a crit, you deal more damage. Maybe this will help you in other runs ^^

How about a Chatot only run if that hasn’t been done before? Imagine all the damage you could do with Chatter! :D Plus also in Gen 4 you could literally just scream into the mic for either a higher confusion chance or higher base damage (I can’t really remember). Soooo, shameless plug every time the move is used?
Catch a random Pokémon with Pickup and get it to pickup 4 Revives. Then Revive them every time they use Explosion then they could struggle until they learn new moves. That would have to be done a lot of times.

@@tejas124 Probably impossible, have you seen Smeargle's base stats? They make baby pokemon look good, and he uses full teams of baby pokemon to make those runs doable. Asking him to manage with only a single smeargle just doesn't seem doable.
@@Shenaldrac Pikasprey did it, so it's definitely possible.
Been saying Smeargle too, its got bad stats but the best move pool.
12:13 "Crits bypass Stat Changes"
Starting with Gen 3, for Attack and Sp.Attack that only applies on negative Changes (ie being hit by Growl and the like). Using Growth works on a Razor Leaf Crit just fine.
Nice
MDB: "We need to out speed our opponent and I can't do that at this level."
Me: "SUNNY. DAY. SOLAR. BEAM."
I know it's not the best, but you said yourself that Growth wasn't good at this point, so swap it for Sunny Day and go with Solar Beam to see if that would be enough.
Plus he will be faster so the aerodactcly might not be that much of a problem
Yeah just ignore your ability
the whole game
i was getting so frustrated this run cuz i wanted to see sunny day + solar beam + chlorophyll!! my mans couldve sweeped teams with this combo
@Gabriel Mota he could also sleep thigns fairly easily. if he outspeeds them and sleeps them, then solar beam hells them? could possibly help if he strategized well enough
I was about to comment something similar, we'll never know if solarbeam+clorophyll+sunny day was better
challenge idea: Farfetch'd solo run
It doesn't really matter which game, I just like Farfetch'd (it's my favorite Pokemon)
As someone who’s attempted this, it’s a great idea.
idk that idea seems kinda farfetch'd
adam herzenberg I’ve never hated and loved a comment so much
sword's dance + slash and wing attack or fly is really good. I've done it it's not that hard
Farfetch’d is the best bird
You should do can I win when you can’t use Pokémon centers and the only time you can heal is DURING battle so no healing outside of battle
this needs to happen
unnath agreed, hope MDB sees this
actually, this is not possible as he would need to restore the pp of his moves
unnath ok then he can only do that in battle too, aren’t there elixirs (idk what generation they came out in)
Anand Struggle is a move that exists!
MDB:struggles with speed the entire game, after saying ability to DOUBLE speed is useless
Yeah. Probably should've taught it Sunny Day. Wouldn't be a great option against Blane, but would've helped a lot in the Elite 4.
@@jamesdinius7769 Yeah, I likely would have saved it specifically for the last two or three trainers though. I'm not sure I'd want to give up any of the other move slots for the first two.
@@jakerockznoodles sleep powder - Sunny Day Solar beam - return would work well for the elite 4
I swear he’s going to name that Bellsprout, Oddish I guarantee you
Edit: What did I say?
Jack Miles ..because thats hilarious
It’ll be a pro wrestling name. Duh
Sir Silly he did name Beedrill, Butterfree
Probably.
Jack Miles 😂
I wanna see "hoppip in gen 2". It's absolutely awful, like a bellsprout but weaker
I was supposed to ask which algorithm you took? Something about helping with the fossils?
Never stoping until the challenge comes true, and that is a run of Pokemon Platinum with only a kricketot.
Love the idea. True is spelled through btw ;)
dave hultermans what? He was saying he wants the challenge to happen, or become true. Saying the called “comes through” sounds even more awkward
Wasn't it made impossible, tho?
Someone else already attempted that, I'm pretty sure he couldn't beat Barry's Infernape before the elite 4.
Cookie Ik what video your talking about, but lets see if he can attemp to do it, and also just give him a harder challenge.
Also, Mr. Bread, I feel you should have gotten the Sunny Day TM. That doubles Bellsprout's speed, and Flamethrower kills you anyway, so there's no harm in it
Adam Uhrynuk honestly mr Bread sounds like a cartoon character
Sorry for the late reply but he has done many pokemon platinum moves but he has never done a HGSS due to just using GSC for johto challenges.
Bellsprout in the early game:ultra power
Bellsprout in the late game: * coffin dance*
Even just gen 5 without HA
Gen 5 with a team of region birds! You can cheat them in if you can't find them so you can use pidgey, hoothoot, taillow, starly, and pidove!
Can you imagine if he tryes that and gets a repeated run? That should be included in the video as well. Great idea for a challenge.
He does randomizer challenges with another youtuber named whattageek. It’s on whattageek’s channel
@@BWalfall thats different tho right? They can have full teams, and I guess its a Nuzlocke right? With this challenge it would be 1 Pokemon for the whole game, nothing else.
@toxicocomelonfan •19 years ago Yea obviously randomizer. Just wanted to get the comment out as fast as possible so it doesnt get lost :D
That would be by far the easiest challenge he's ever done. Swords dance and 3 physical moves
Absol is a pretty strong Pokemon though with decent stats and moveset, unlike some of the weak and gimmicky Pokemon he tends to use.
Sneasel would be worse, it’s one of the gen 2 “Pokémon that had bad stats and no evo for some reason” mons that got evos in gen 4, but it’s a physical sweeper and it’s stab is special
Finally completed my challenged and watched every challenge you've done
Watching this was an experience I learned so much more about every generation of pokemon from the 1st to 5th
Man I love cradily... NOW that would be a fun 1
Didn’t I see Sunny Day in bellsprout’s movepool? I feel like you could have made use of chlorophyll to get extra speed for alakazam and charizard
Challange idea: Pokemon Gold with only a single Ledyba (named "Spinarak" because that's hilarious, of course).
Alternatively, Pokemon Red/Fire Red with only one Goldeen, for maximum Peck/Horn Attack value.
Why not just reset for a slightly better nature? Doesn't have to be perfect, but maybe one that doesn't take away attack?
Vine Whip is special in gen 3
Love the challenges tryed a couple my self. I have an idea for a challenge. you have limited base stats either you can't use Pokémon with higher base stats of 300 or the team can have a combined based stats of 1,200.
I hope you do 'Can I beat pokemon platinum with a Carnivine' somewhere in the future. It's so bad
What do you mean? It's great at being annoying to it's owners. Team rocket, specifically james
Idk what I’d do if I didn’t see the whole “I took the x fossil....” bit. Definitely my quote for 2020 cause this dude has been on my recommended on TH-cam for a while and now 3 months later, I’m here just binge watching this stuff. Great content my guy!
Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald with only a single Wingull. Single Wingull!
And name it Jingle for the sake of the rhyming
Nooo you have to name it peeko!
Peeko
Singull.
Gen 2 with a Ledian. Gen 2 with a Ledian.
I just finished doing that. Red was a nightmare.
Genuine question: why didnt you try using Sleep Powder then Sunny Day to outspeed everything? Seemed like the other option when there was "no other option other than double team."
Also which fossil did you take??
Out of the strategy-minded challenge takers you're probably better off seeing Jrose or Smallant be more concerned about abilities
@@nikodemossowski4621 Why Smallant?
Skeeter Mania because he smort
if Charizard survived a razorleaf or return or solarbeam, woke up from his sleep, and used Flamethrower, its an instant loss whether the Sun is out or not. Double Team has a much higher chance of stopping that completely, because Charizard double resists grass, so Solarbeam isnt gonna do very much damage.
@@steveh1474 He could've gone sleep powder, solarbeam, sunny day, growth
Sleep the first mon, sunny day, 3 growths to get to +6 SPA, and solarbeam OHKOs everything, even Charizard. Would require some luck, but nothing too crazy. Or even if it doesn't OHKO, you're faster and can put anything to sleep as long as you manage the sun well.
I’m so confused why you didn’t name him Peashooter!
Because he probably doesn’t know pvz

I think people dislike Double Team, because it can be done with every Pokémon, so it's always possible. Sleep Powder on the other hand, can only be learned by some Pokémons and Spore is straight up rare. I vote for Pokémon Crystal using only 1 - 6 Smeargle.
3, take it or leave it.

40 * 2 = 80
120 * 0.5 = 60 * 1.5 = 90
@@rocknrollmustlive MDB is the worst of all these challenge content creators. It's lazy and repetitive compared to the likes of Jrose and Pikasprey. Jsi borec.
I didn't know that!
12:12
Crits only ignore negative stat changes.
1:29 Missed oportunity to name it "peashooter"

Plus also in Gen 4 you could literally just scream into the mic for either a higher confusion chance or higher base damage (I can’t really remember). Soooo, shameless plug every time the move is used?
It sounds dumb but try a solo run with one of the Regis. They all start with self-destruct so I wanna know how you'd bypass that🤣🤣

Explosion*
And there really is no way. If explosion misses, then you will still lose. Regigigas in Platinum is possible, though.
Having comparatively OP starting moves would definitely help, question would be how much a hinderance slow start would be in early battles
Catch a random Pokémon with Pickup and get it to pickup 4 Revives. Then Revive them every time they use Explosion then they could struggle until they learn new moves. That would have to be done a lot of times.
