I've known about the 'Scheduler' for sometime. However, since my 2006 'Blue Screen of Death' crash, not only did I begin backing up my stuff, I had got so used to manually setting a 'Restore Point' before either downloading, Installing, opening and/or executing particular files, drivers, programs, apps, etc, It's a scheduler so, this video will benefit those who don't know, those who forget to, and, those who just wanna get on with it. Good one dude. :-)
lol i've been having this issue for a while on all my computers simply after doing this last year i just got a BSOD a couple hours ago and i just got back 1 day with the data and remembered about this thing because i was panicking so much i just came back to appreciate this video this guy saved a lot of people!
Nice feature to have. Something that should be used by all. My question is. How do you regulate how many restore points get built up and just take up space? You could do a cleanup but that gets rid of all of the restore points. The Expire feature at the bottom of the box , my guess is it expires the task and not a individual event. (Windows 10 Home)
System Properties>System Protection>Your Drive>Configure>Disk Space Usage. Depends on how much space you allocate System Protection. Older restore points are deleted automatically to make room for newer ones.
That's good news . I'll set it up and monitor it. I'm always chasing 10 PC's in my network and this should help out a lot. Thanks for the Tip and quick response to my question.
I was able to do what you did but I don't see it listed in the task schedule library, but it is listed under windows system restore where it was created and is listed. Should it show up also in the task schedule library with the other scheduled task? Thanks
Hi after the Fall creators update my PC lags a lot. I want to go back to an earlier version, before the Fall Creators Update or even go back to like November/December system. Is this possible to do, because I have not added any restore points, the only restore points shown are like 1 week old... my PC is half a year old, win 10 home. Can i restore my pc to how it looked last year without having added restore points during that time?
OMG I have been trying to figure out why Win10 doesnt do auto sysres points like winxp did, so thank you! Why is the default condition to wait till the pc is idle? More specifically what is the definition of "idle"? Technically my pc is never "idle" as discord is running 24hr/day.. so had I not checked what those conditions were, would that mean that sysres wouldn''t have run anyway due to my pc not being "idle"? I understand that sysres prob shouldn't run during auto updates, or other important SYSTEM tasks. I unchecked that box (Start the task only if the system is idle). Hope this wasn't the wrong thing to do (?) Urgh winxp is better in so many ways .. so sad it's not still supported (officially).
Hoi Brian, as always a very good video! But I wonder in what situations is a Restore Point exactly useful? If I get a virus or worse a full-backup is more useful or I'm wrong?
Wonder why the default is off? My system shows not only a Local Drive C:, but also a (C:) (Missing) which is ON. Any idea what the missing drive represents?
That happen to me after replacing the original drive with it's clone for testing. After replacing the original drive back, I noticed the '(C) Missing'. Disabled it in System Protection>Configure (System Properties>System Protection>Configure). GONE! It was telling me my cloned drive was "missing in action" - Yeah right.! Physically disconnected buddy!
Hello Brian - I run windows 10 version 1709 and have activated SR as you advise : Created a restore point and installed a patch for a piece of non microsoft software : When I tried to restore the system to the pre-patch state It failed : I turned off antivirus and malwarebytes and tried again : Failed to restore... any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Brian.
Hi, I used to have the "Previous version" activated in order to quickly recover files or folders in case of an "emergency". However Windows 10 1709 seems to have disabled the capability of accessing the different "Previous versions" of files. The problem with system restore is that if we run a recovery, it would rewind the entire disk to a previous date. "Previous versions" used to be good when we needed to recover in a more granular basis, i.e. recover a single file. Does anyone know why Microsoft decided to block this feature ?. The funny thing is that I can run the Create procedure, but when I right click on the drive and I go to "Previous versions" there is nothing there. By the way, thanks for the videos......

This was more helpful than two other videos I watched. Right clicking helped!
This is a very important feature makes me wonder why ms would have it off by default. I'm Gona go enable it now.
Microsoft do some silly stuff sometimes
Another great tutorial. Ive got my restore option on, but not on a schedule.
Thanks so much - I've wanted to do this for years
I like the way you say scheduler 😂❤️ .. Thank you
Thank you Brian for your great tutorials!
Useful advice, thank you.
You're welcome.
Very useful information, Brian. These "little" things that can be scheduled are things I would like to know more about.
More coming.
Thanks mate!!! Learned something new today.
Thanks, Brian!
Cheers Jim

hi Brian. could you tell me (How to permanently disable windows 10 touchscreen).
Hoi Brian, as always a very good video!
But I wonder in what situations is a Restore Point exactly useful?
If I get a virus or worse a full-backup is more useful or I'm wrong?
Corrupt Registry, Bad Update, Bad Driver, Bad Program Install etc etc, always good to have more than one way to revert back to working computer.
After Set up when I go to recovry options it's showing restore point Is not credited create a restore point what should I do now?
I have a question.

But It does'nt work
Even set it begin by a schedule
not working, it says (0x0) but no restore point was created...

So this is like a backup
Well my pc is a windows 7 so if this method works for windows 7 it may be useful
Though I like factory reset cause reasons
Its another safety net
Oh
I feel like you went out of your way to say scheduler more than you needed to just for the Americans watching
Scheduled?!...bro even a regular restore point doesn't work on my pc 😅😂
Turning mine off. Only use it for TH-cam
