  • Do you know what to do when your Windows 10 machine stops working? System Restore lets you repair Windows 10 by time traveling back to when things last worked properly. In this video Adam shows you 2 ways to use System Restore to fix your computer, and how to check that System Restore is configured to protect your machine properly:
    1. Typing RESTORE from the Windows Startup Menu 00:00-10:24
    2. Using the Boot Options Menu 10:25-12:54

"System Restore" was uploaded to YouTuve February 19, 2021. However I did not watch until July 12, 2021. Let me say it was very helpful but there was one issue for me. I went to the configure button and entered the name. May 1, 2021. I wanted to store my computer manually to May 1, 2021. When I scanned to see what would be affected by the May 1, 2021 restore date information said nothing would be affected and it was showing the date July 12, 2021.
Automatically my computer is showing May 28, 2021 and this is not good for me. How can I set a restore day for May 1, 2021?

Is there a way to do this on an external HD? I am getting a new HD for my laptop, and I would like to be able to update the new drive from a restore point established on a backup HD.

Hello, I was attempting to resolve a sudden slow boot issue in Windows 10 that I've recently been experiencing by eventually appealing to previously created restore points, but with no success. The following message came up for all of the restore points after I attempted to use them unsuccessfully:
    "System Restore
System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.
    Details:
System Restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.
    Source: %Program Files%\WindowsApps
    Destination: AppxStaging
An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x80070017)
You can try System Restore again and choose a different restore point. If you continue to see this error, you can try an advanced recovery method."
    What should I do?

How can I put system restore on USB drive or external drive?

I installed the latest Windows 10 update and it is screwing up my GPU. After booting up, my GPU fan started spinning like crazy. The programs I tried to run on my GPU kept crashing. So I performed system restore but without using the Advanced Startup. I did it directly within Windows. Now my computer won't even boot up.

System restore dosent let me go back far enough. The last window update took out my CD/rom player. Nothing happens when i place a CD in. And when i click on "ThisPC," it dosent show up like it used to with the other drives. The uninstall updates won't uninstall anything.
I can see the CdRom in the "device manager" window. It has a yellow triangle with a red exclamation point on it. It says something about drivers not verified and suggesting something changed.
Can you help me with this?
All i want is my CD player back!
    Thank you.

There are potentially MULTIPLE reasons why this might happen, as frustrating as it is. The 2 best options to pursue to attempt a fix are as follows:
First, you can try to go to Windows Update and choose the "VIEW OPTIONAL UPDATES" item under the main Windows Update area and see if there is/are any driver updates for the CD-Rom that might need to be applied.
Second, you can try right-clicking on the CD-Rom item in the Device Manager and select "UNINSTALL DEVICE" and then shutdown and restart the computer. The CD-Rom should be added back in by the system using the base driver in Windows and should become available again unless there is a hardware issue preventing it from working. Good luck!

@@ITProTv thank so much, I will give this a try.

    • @resslerartstudios
      @resslerartstudios 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ITProTv i tried both. That was unsucessful. The more frustrating part is where I am able to uninstall updates (on 4/29), when I check the box, the uninstall option disappears. It won't let me uninstall certain updates.
      What's up with that?
And, when i try to restore to past date, it wont let me chose the date I want. The "restore" option only lets me restore a point in time that is after the problem, plus the "create a new restore point" option wont let me create the date I want! All I want is my CD/Rom player back. :)
Something about a driver and or perhaps an unwanted file that maybe has been installed during an some update or when something changed. There is a yellow triangle with a red exclamation point on the name of the cdrom when i see it via the device manager. Even after I uninstalled the device and rebooted the computer.

Oh goodness this has gotten so complicated. Once upon a time you could just tell the computer back up to whatever date and even time. This doesn't work if you need to back up an hour or a day :(

Unfortunately, I have no way of diagnosing or figuring out what would be wrong and causing System Restore not to finish successfully. Are you receiving any additional errors or messages?
