I LOSE SO MUCH TIME fixing what MS Updates screws up. I have been turning Updates Off, but I can only do it for a month at a time, and then I have to deal with it again. I run a Windows 10 Home version and wanted to find a way to SEE what was going to be downloaded and installed BEFORE it's done, which is the way it used to be. Now I see the Windows Install spinner and I am in FEAR of what it's doing, and if I'm going to be able to get any work done for the rest of that day!! MS UPDATES have been a nightmare and has crashed my laptop to the point where it is COMPLETELY unbootable. I watched another one of your videos to get files off using NotePad, but my laptop is still DEAD, unbootable and unuseable, I really need to have 2 computers working, and I don't have time to learn Linux or lose ALL my files on the laptop. I left you a comment today on that other video, I still need some help. As for this video, I spent Hours researching and found Group Policy Editor to turn off Updates, actually printed the instructions, but when I went to implement, the commands did not work. Obviously the site I got the instructions from did NOT SPECIFY that GPE ONLY Works on Windows Professional NOT Windows Home. So I'm back to square 1, FEARING MS UPDATES!! Can you PLEASE SHOW US WINDOWS 10 HOME users HOW TO Disable Windows 10 Feature updates!? I have uninstalled them only to have MS REINSTALL THEM the NEXT Day!! It's a nightmare! That is all still now in my book, maybe not yours, but that again is your issue, perception and interpretation. The same with the take things slowly. Haven't watched your stuff in a long time but I'm glad your channel got much bigger and is still kicking, easily the best refresher of what to remove when you build a new windows 10 PC
I've just watched your video and I'm confused. I see what you've done and can possibly reproduce some of it (i'm on W10 Home) but am not sure WHY I should make some of the changes as the Computer I'm running on is not SuperWhizzey but runs fine. I don't want to turn something off that may cause me a problem months or years in the future and I've turned something off that I can't remember. Perhaps you should have a series of smaller videos that address certain aspects and explain the whys and wherefores in them. Sorry for being negative and I appreciate the recommendation of the O&O program so I guess I have picked up something from the Video. Tell you what I would appreciate is a way to uninstall all the crappy games that are on a small computer I have that only has 32 Gig of onboard storage and cannot update because of the lack of onboard room (the Disney one seems to take the most disc space!). Thanks for your time
So in summation: Your computer runs fine. You want an explanation from the video creator as to why you've decided to follow their advice despite your computer being fine. You don't want this video, you want a video about something else.
If you want to uninstall the games, you can right click on them in the start menu and in the menu that appears you can click on uninstall. If that doesn't work Windows key + S and search for control panel. Find programs and features, wait for it to load and find the games you want removed and uninstall them. Also, I have a 32gb PC and you need a USB flash drive or micro SD card to use as a cache for the downloads of the updates that'll install. Any recently made PC (2013, onward) will have a card reader slot on the 32gb systems. It's there because they know you'll need to expand storage.
I think the video did great already explaining the reasons for most features disabled. Using RegEdit is always dangerous, but other than that, all actions here are safe to do, and easy to reverse.
Thanks man. For the past 2 years a PC i bought in 2012 had problems immediately i upgraded from Windows 7 to 10. My PC would just restart in the middle of my work. I did most of the things on this video. I noticed some improvements on my PC... Most importantly i spent 6 hours playing games and my pc didn't shut down. Am surprised by that. Thanks alot. However am still monitoring it. So far so good
Good instructions in video. However, be aware that disabling some of these features may mess up your computer, as it did for me. Sometimes it is not apparent why this happens, and it took me a lot of work to find out what the problems were. As an example, the video recommends disabling Internet Explorer 11. Quite correctly, I am not using this, so I disabled it. Several days later, after restarting the PC, hyperlinks did not work in Outlook. After spending a lot of time trying to fix the problem, I found out that disabling Internet Explorer 11 disabled hyperlinks in Outlook, no matter which WEB browser was set up as default.
Other setting that needs to be disabled is SMBv3 Compression and Show thumbnails instead of icons. In microsoft portal they publish an vulnerability in adobe feature and recommended to disable the both.

So much easier if I could just create the Admin Account, adjust all my settings the way I want them, then create a local account and copy all the settings over from the Admin Account. Is this possible and if so where can I find the instructions? 2. Is there a way to save the Admin Account system settings in windows 10 home edition to an external hard drive and/or back them up? That's a preschooler rule. There is no point to making a backup if you make changes to a few registries like the Cortana one.
never bothered LOL
Neat summary. I'd add disabling Windows updates to the list. There are tutorials here on TH-cam on how to do that. Also, msconfig is quite interesting as well, many things can be disabled there.
but isn't there features which need your windows to be up to date for it to work?
@@big4headedGangster None that I've encountered, but I only use Windows 10 for a limited amount of things.
Then you wont get important security updates and its more vulnerable to hacking. Security updates are the only reason i moved to win10,,otherwise i would have stayed with win7.
Could you do a video going through the" turn windows apps features on or off' and what each thing does and is for...
Even now 2 years later this is still a fantastic video, subscribed, love to all.
Overall, what kind of decrease in background CPU usage would one expect if they implemented ALL of the changes in the video? And would it be noticeable during day to day tasks right up to video editing?
The decrease is in "tyrannical data collection by massive corporations" not so much CPU speeds etc..
Brian - I am one of your Tech Fans, I've been using your videos to learn things. I've been having to waste a LOT of my Work time fixing what MS Updates screws up and changes.
I really appreciate your help. Thanks.
Thank you, Brian! I’ve just discovered your channel and your videos are top quality! I’ve been a long time Windows user as many other people and Windows 10 doesn’t quite appeal to me as much as 7 did but with these changes it is a lot more enjoyable now! Thank you!
Hi Brian. A HUGE THANK YOU....This is by far the best TH-cam channel where Microsoft windows and a PC or notebook are concerned.... period.
Things you "NEED to disable RIGHT NOW"!!!!!
Right from the 1st item: "Oh, it's optional, it's up to you."
Uhh, "NEED to disable RIGHT NOW" and "optional" are kinda the opposite of one another. Just putting that out there.
Disabled 2 of the very first things he recommended and right away already caused a problem for me. Not the best advice here.
@@Psandoval85 Which is why he stated he specifically was mentioning ways that could be reversed later. As well as ended with take things slow and easy and see how they go.
@@kevinfisher1345 If it is imperrative that this stuff be remvoed NOW, then how can you tell some0ne to also take things slowly and see how they go? That's conflicting directives. The title is pure click bait and that is the point.
@@heinzerbrew Maybe that is your interpretation of 'now'. The issue is not doing everything at once, this can still all be done now mate, just not all at one shot and go. Spend several hours or half day doing one or couple things, reboot, check how things are going. Do a couple more, rinse and repeat. That is all still now in my book, maybe not yours, but that again is your issue, perception and interpretation. The same with the take things slowly. Again that is up to you, maybe you don't have several hours to do this, so then take your time in however long you need, or it could simply mean do only one or couple things at time as in my example above by doing it all now ... just not all in one shot so that IF something messes up you do not know which of all those things you did was the cause.
@@kevinfisher1345 The title says "NEED" and "RIGHT NOW" the video says only if you don't need it and whenever you get to it. It's click bait BS. I use half the stuff on his list and yet I need to disable it all right now.
The definition of now is pretty well defined in the dictionary by the way. It does not mean later.
I'm pretty sure IE is still used a wrapper when logging into OneDrive. If you use OneDrive and have the app installed, it will still work if you uninstall IE, but if your password ever changes you won't be able to log into it from the app. Also, it might be used for logging into Office 365 and other MS apps.
Make a video called ‘things you should enable in windows 10 right now.’
Happened to hit this session of yours on youtube a while ago and went thru it. Although watching it after a year since your posting herein, yet i found it very beneficial for my laptop that's still running on windows 10 (1809) duly serviced with all updates so far.
I might be late in commenting, but it has definitely helped me in the run.
Thank you so much, i was going crazy with this piece of crap, i was so shocked how slow it is after my optimized 8.1. At first i couldn't even change settings, it was just reseting as soon as i closed any of them after changes. Oh my god it will take me a lot of time just to make this thing work, jeez... Huge thank you again mate you're doing gods work
Haven't watched your stuff in a long time but I'm glad your channel got much bigger and is still kicking, easily the best refresher of what to remove when you build a new windows 10 PC
Great stuff. Just wondering - will we have to go thru these same steps with every Windows Update ?
Yes
Just script it out
-disable drive indexing is a big performance jump in C drive
-disable using your pc uploading for updates
thank you so much my friend
Just want to say thanks your videos are superb!
Thanks for your time
So in summation:
Your computer runs fine.
You want an explanation from the video creator as to why you've decided to follow their advice despite your computer being fine.
You don't want this video, you want a video about something else.
Try Revo Uninstaller. I've always used the free version until recently that found it cheap in Humble Bundle. Does a great job.
No need to fix what ain't broke, my guy.

Try Blackbird. Disables many W10 bloat, however, read the commands because it might block things. Kills plenty services and tasks.
I'm interested too!!!
Count me in for disabling unnecessary services! If the video gets too long, maybe split it in two?

Thank you, Brian. I don't like shit spying on me and collecting my information either and this really put my mind at ease. Thank you!
Man, I miss Windows 7 so much.
yep…I can relate to that, but I do have a dual OS PC now👍
*Watched and followed the instructions to the end of the video. You are appreciated.*
Great advice, thank you! I made some changes and look forward to seeing the improvement. I'll be following you for more tips!
After spending a lot of time trying to fix the problem, I found out that disabling Internet Explorer 11 disabled hyperlinks in Outlook, no matter which WEB browser was set up as default.
absolutely fantastic. trite, concise and to the point. well done BRITEC09.

Other setting that needs to be disabled is SMBv3 Compression and Show thumbnails instead of icons.
In microsoft portal they publish an vulnerability in adobe feature and recommended to disable the both.

Thank you for your great work! I had always disabled most of services (for example I had enabled only 14 services on Win 7 Ultimate) and background processes etc. on Windows 95, 98, NT, XP and 7. But just now I got Win 10 Pro and was devastated how big control this OS have over you and how many services and processes runs on this one (I am using Process Hacker 2 for processes monitoring and controlling). Great video as always Brian. This video helped me alot with finding and disabled much of Win10 tracking things thx alot :)
7:36 - Just one friendly note, I highly recommend leaving 'Allow Windows to track app launches...' it's makes the Run (Win+R) command soo much more user friendly because it remembers your last ten typed commands.

I found your video really helpful. My computer, because I use heavy duty photo editing software sometimes - shall we say - breathes heavily! Having you guide me through the ins and outs of what to safely shut down was really nice. I would be interested if you have a video in exactly all the things you feel we can disable in services in addition to the ones mentioned herein. Thank you very much. Yeah, was going to ask the same, I see no-one has replied to you. Hope we get an answer to that.
Without counting the opt outs you suggest, this just shows how much unnecessary garbage is contained in Windows. No wonder computers don't run any faster than they did 20 years ago.
Opting out of things that are not being used has zero effect!
Thank you so much for this great information. after shutting down laptop and restarting, it loaded in very little time. I would love to see more how to's on this myself, for the bloatware put in.
How safe is the software from O&O? I have uploaded the exe into the hybrid-analysis sandbox, and it detects indicators mapped to some attack techniques..
I also thought about this direction. Why woudnt be this program a tool from hackers or worse - a (non-explicit) tool from MS wanting to give us the impression we are safe using an outside tool resting and leaving the guard down then MS can do everything it wants :))
@Uncinematographable Screenshot Cinema what alternative there are?

I have Windows 10 Home Edition and Can't find any solutions on these 2 issues perhaps you can offer your expertise.
1. I always use a total of 2 accounts...1 Admin Account and 1 Local User account. The major problem I can't solve after endless efforts is figuring out how to copy the system settings from the Admin Account to the Local Account. This would save a ton of time not having to configure the settings for 2 different accounts.
All backup options I've read about do not offer the ability to backup settings. Rather it is documents, files, ect.. but not windows system settings.
