International has always made the best bus IMHO, even back in the 50s. I road a 57 A160 when i was a kid. It got me interested in school buses and I've never forgotten it. Now I drive one.

What a fancy ride. I really like the floor, I've never understood the point of the extra runner and like you said, it'll be easier to keep clean. Those alloy wheels look great. Do you know how much lighter they are compared to steel?
That is significant and should contribute to a better ride and improved tire wear. I'd love to spent a day or two driving it. It's a pimped out version of my '17.
yellowbusguy come to MD and it’s all yours! Good drivers are hard to find. I think the air suspension makes the biggest difference in the ride from my old buses. Oh, having the fuel tank weight behind the rear axle makes a huge difference.
Mine has the tank in the rear, and it does smooth the ride, the front feels less harsh. All our buses have air ride, so that's all I know. I'll be starting my 18th year this fall. Miss my kids already.
The back looks similar to 55 and 245 that I see passing by every morning when I wait for bus 73. I wave to all the drivers. 55 beeps to me. On the inside, they both have a transition rail.
My school gets 2 new buses every year and we are all IC CE Busses and we got 2017 ones and dang the LED lights are bright but nice at night when ur trying to get band equipment and stuff of at 11 at night
I can't wait to see the RV conversion! Does it have a driveline retarder? A driveline retarder, like those found under city transit buses (shuttle buses) help a lot during braking or downhill, saving brakes over long term.
Never have I've seen any show bus with that much chrome, I might then talk to my district about changing to look somewhat like that (defiantly with ac right now 8:31 pm est it is 100 degrees out) overall great looking bus
Chris Rivera I think “regular” is the operative term. All bus body manufacturers come standard with a screwed body (adhesive for the C2). I specified heavy duty rivets and it transforms the stiffness of the body and sound. Everyone who’s driven my IC says “this bus is different”. School districts don’t order anything like this...
I work for STA (student transportation of America) and we ordered 4 brand new ones they are sitting behind out building and they aren't as equipped as this the price tag on ours is 200k Each bus, they lease them anyways but still. the 2020's will be even nicer with standard collision mitigation.

Well, where i live (Germany) this Bus Looks kinda old. I mean its classy, but it just Looks old to me. We partially have Cockpits that are all Touchscreen. Not always better, but defineatly more modern. (Buses here are for example MAN Lion‘s City, Mercedes Benz Citaro, Solaris Urbino, etc. just Look ist up if you are interested)

How is the Eaton transmission? I drove Eaton ultra shift 10 speed at UNFI and they didn't move when releasing the brake and jolted when tapping the accelerator. It did show the gear on the orange screen on the dashboard. But a manual transmission never does
MrWill1985 I love it. It honestly changes to entire feeling of the bus. I never realized how loud torque converter transmissions are, so the Eaton is super quiet. Runs about 500-650RPM lower then my Allison equipped bus. Lastly, the fuel economy is much better. To my knowledge the Eaton Procision is unlike the Ultra-Shift as it is a dual-clutch setup versus a strictly automated manual like the others.
@@SwannBus I find automated manual transmissions quieter than regular automatic. My current car has an automated manual transmission and I like it better than the regular automatic on my previous car.
I drive a Van Hool motorcoach with a 12 speed ZF DCT. It’s much quieter and more responsive. It does take a little bit of getting used to from a dead stop

Todd Vollweiler 2019 calendar year but my bus didn’t make the cut. It was built in April-May and IC decided to make collision mitigation standard in June/July. My friend ordered in June and received his bus in October and it still didn’t have it. So, I’m guessing we won’t actually see it until 2020 model year buses.
Garrett Moseley LOL yes without a governor and the 5.29 gears this bus could very easily top 100 mph. At 75 it’s under 2000 RPM which is unheard of in a school bus. I get to drive lots of buses and this bus more than adequate.
They let you choose the features? Most school systems choose everything on the buses when making the purchase. I wasn't fond of the hydraulic brakes on the newer full size buses in Baltimore County when I was in school 20 years ago. I like air brakes better
MrWill1985 so the state and county provide a minimum specification but the owner can choose everything else. My county doesn’t dig too deep on the specs as long as they meet state requirements.

Your local Board of Education or Department of Transportation can you give you the exact requirements. You can own a school bus with a license but it’s much more convenient to have one. Tony Riley so, you don’t get to choose what schools you service. First, you need to find out of your state/county/district operates their own buses or contracts out. Second, if they contract out you’ll need to find out how their contracts are distributed. That is usually found at the Board of Education or the Department of Transportation. What color is your bus?? Soo is that the inside of your bus?? Is that gray seats?? Dose your bus have a 8 way light system??? Why is your tires still wet??? What's that noise when u 1st started it??? Dose it take u 8 hours to wash your bus inside and out?? and then after do u repeat it 3 more times to make sure all of the soap and water is off of your bus. How often do u wash and rewash your bus?? How often do u dry and redry your bus??
swf2e haha, I got really picky because our buses are locked into service for 15 years. I wanted to make sure I’d be happy down the road. I’m sure people think I’m showing off or bragging about my specs but I drive my own buses and wanted to be proud of my equipment.
I drive mine as well but we really aren’t locked into it the full 15 years (or 18 years with extension). Some contractors will run them all the way out while others will trade after 8-9 years. Just like on the options. Some get a basic bus but many get quite a few options. It is a little bit of an ego thing I think on a field trip when we roll into other districts.
swf2e 100% agree with you. Wish our contact allowed for us to trade them in. I’ve been pushing the contractors association to ask for modifications to the contact with no success. The “elders” think it’s fine just the was it is.

Gub gub of course I have, they are all awesome and technologically advanced buses. However, the United States Federal government in conjunction with the Federal Transit Authority regulates every square inch of bus design and manufacturing. Lastly, the buses you mentioned aren’t built to those standards and would very expensive to do so. Until our government changes, bus design will likely remain the same.
Adam D this bus is far classier looking than those ugly Euro-busses. International Durastar front end is gorgeous, rims are awesome. The Cummins engine is a great choice as well.

My district where I work we just got 10 new 2018 IC buses and they have that push button transmission. I love them, they are such good buses.

yellowbusguy I believe the steels are 60lbs and the Aluminum are 40lbs; 20lbs X 6 wheels =120lbs thereabouts
