ASEAN love to criticized instead of helping.. last time only Malaysia - Indonesia - Philippines - Singapore who raised concern over Myanmar issues & condemn the military.. then what Myanmar neighbours do? Thailand is just border by land with Myanmar, all the do is keep silent because they are kinda 'similar'.. Vietnam is considered as huge power in SEA Mainland, i don't see they do something for Myanmar.. Cambodia seems not interested with any problem that happened in ASEAN, they only care about Thailand claims & cultures.. all i can say, Maritime Southeast Asia were braver than Mainland..

In Bahasa Indonesia "Raya" means The Great or Big. If you add affix on "Raya" it will become "Perayaan" which means Celebration. In Indonesia we call Great Britain with "Britania Raya" & Indonesia National Anthem is "Indonesia Raya"
Raya's sword is Keris, traditional dagger from Indonesia. But in Raya it looks much bigger. It more similar to Naga Puspa Sword (literally means dragon flower sword) that appears in indonesia's historycal soap-opera with the same title.
I think Kumandra isnt fully fictional world. I think it inspired from term of "Nusantara" where lot of nations in Southeast Asia once lived together as one in harmony & peace. You can read History about Sriwijaya & Majapahit kingdom.

South East Asia today is not the same as it was 1000 years ago. There is a large Chinese expat population in Southeast Asia and China has been expanding south for many years. So the looks aren't as distinct today as they used to be. But also, there have been a lot of similarities across Asian cultures as they are all part of an Asian cultural sphere. The issue is that a lot of those cultural elements, such as martial arts, get identified exclusively as Chinese. There were also Asian dragons in other cultures outside of China as well, but again the ones in China are the most well known and famous.

Only reference to Vietnamese culture is how Raya called her father by the word “Ba”, which is used mainly in Central/Southern Vietnam
Anyway you can’t expect to put in every cultural details of like 10 countries into a 100 minute Disney movie

After watching this great movie, I looked for the movie's background which I didn't understand yet. Some things I found: the RAYA character could be Vietnamese female warrior(s) legend, the name RAYA, like in "Indonesia Raya" (Indonesian National anthem), means "Great Indonesia", so it may as an inspiration reflecting to Great Female Warrior. And yes, the martial art styles are derived from pencak silat & muay thai. While the costume seems derived from Vietnam & Thailand cultures, And Raya's main weapon is Keris (famous traditional Indonesian Javanese weapon). I thought those four countries touches are dominant in it, but no, it turns out a story describing the southeast Asia (ASEAN) cultures as life background. What a great collaborative work with nice compound of materials & sources.

The culture in Southeast Asia is very diverse: on mainland Southeast Asia, the culture is a mix of Burmese, Cambodian, Laotian, and Thai (Indian) and Vietnamese (Chinese) cultures. While in Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia the culture is a mix of indigenous Austronesian, Indian, Islamic, Western, and Chinese cultures. Also Brunei shows a strong influence from Arabia. Vietnam and Singapore show more Chinese influence[139] in that Singapore, although being geographically a Southeast Asian nation, is home to a large Chinese majority and Vietnam was in China's sphere of influence for much of its history. Indian influence in Singapore is only evident through the Tamil migrants,[140] which influenced, to some extent, the cuisine of Singapore. Throughout Vietnam's history, it has had no direct influence from India - only through contact with the Thai, Khmer and Cham peoples. Moreover, Vietnam is also categorized under the East Asian cultural sphere along with China, Korea, and Japan due to a large amount of Chinese influence embedded in their culture and lifestyle.

I know this because I have friends who actually helped brought this movie to life. So don't act too certain about that "fact" (only 2 yeah riiight). The whole movie itself is SEA inspired. Sorry, the voice acting thing -
To me, recording from home is a normal thing. That's how my audioplays have been made. It's wierd to me that it's wierd to them, but it explains some of the sound quality. Not bashing, just glad to have an answer haha.
Nothing wrong with recording from home, that's how people are getting their practice in nowadays before, if they do, they get into professionalism.
Every time I get talked to about my audioplays and they say they're interested, they ALWAYS say "But I can't travel over there/I don't have access to a sound studio" and I'm just like "Mate if your phone mic is not buzzy or staticy and it's fine, because I use my IPad, then cool! Do it in your wardrobe! I'm not expecting Blue Yeti 25166352 whatever mics! Just please don't whisper your audition like your mother's asleep in the next room.".

This movie reflects the real world a lot like how Southeast Asians are constantly arguing with each other and claiming the culture to be their own or accusing other SEA countries of stealing/copying their culture when in reality we all came from the same ancestors and we were once all family and the same(we still are) if we stop this greedy monster in us right now we might become whole again.
