    I think that we are easily shocked since we all grew with the disney versions, when the original tales were actually made to scare the children and focused on having a moral more than making the children dream. They were good at it back in the 18th century, glad I'm not born then :)

    I don't know if you know but the original story of Cinderella was actually written by Charles Perrault, a French writer, in the 16th Century before being rewritten by the Grimm brothers. In that tale Cinderella did have a fairy Godmother, even though this time, her slippers weren't made of glass either, they were made of fur.

    • @NAVEMAN3
      @NAVEMAN3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      It's possible that Brothers Grimm was more popular than Perrault. I'm more familiar with Chinese Cinderella. Unfortunately, a lot of the Chinese culture misinterpreted the story and that's how foot binding became a thing.

    • @fan2jnrc
      @fan2jnrc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      True except for the slippers. In the original of Perrault (17th century actually) they are made of glass ("verre" in French), written in all letters, in all editions. Only during the 19th century, some literary critics have invented against all evidence that it must be a typographical error and that the shoes must be made of "vair", that is a very fine fur. The legend remained. But it is not true.

    There are lots of versions and adaptation of cinderella throughout the centuries. In fact, from what I heard, the story originated in ancient Egypt. Apparently, a servant working in the pharaoh palace got one of her sandals stolen by a eagle which ended up falling on the pharaoh himself. Thinking it was a sign from Ra, the pharaoh searched for the sandal's owner and married her. Interesting to see how stories change with time.

    CORRECTIONS: Actually, Disney's Cinderella is based on the fairy tale of the same name by Charles Perrault. It does have a fairy godmother, a magic pumpkin and glass slippers. Also, the Brothers Grimm didn't write Cinderella. They just adapted it into their collection of stories.

    • @albatross1688
      @albatross1688 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Neither did Perrault, technically. It's also possible the Grimms put their own spin on some aspects of the stories they collected, so even though they technically didn't invent the stories they wrote down, it's possible they still made them their own in some way.

      There's also an ancient Chinese story with some Cinderella-like elements, and I've heard there are plenty of others. My take is that we probably shouldn't take any of these stories as explicitly being "the original Cinderellas", but there is certainly a possibility that they were sources of inspiration for Basile's story, which would later inspire Perrault's, which would in turn potentially make its way to the Grimms in some form.

    Actually, the Disney film is based on a version of the story by Charles Perrault that's over a century older than the Grimm version, and the film is a lot closer to it. The dad still lives in that version, and he's not portrayed as a jerk. However, he is portrayed as being unbelievably oblivious to Cinderella's suffering, so either way he's the worst character, and that's probably why he's killed off in Disney's version and other versions of the story to follow.

    The Fairy Godmother actually gives Cinderella her self esteem. Since Cinderella doesn't even have one in the first place, because she is taught that her family's needs are more important.

    Honestly, I am glad Disney went with a more child-friendly version of Cinderella. It would be cruel if Anastasia and Drizella had their eyes plucked as punishment. A more befitting punishment would be for them to learn the meaning of respect, kindness, empathy, and hard work while they work like maids. But Cinderella would treat them with kindness and respect and give them breaks. Learn what it's it like to be in Cinderella's shoes, not literally, and learn their lesson. It's not entirely the stepsisters' fault. Lady Tremaine manipulated them for her own gain.

    You should watch Jon Solo talking about the origin story of Cinderella... Especially, that another story, way before Brother's Grimm, was the first Cinderella Story.
    ...In my honesty, if they were to do another Cinderella Movie based on the Brother's Grimm version, I think they should have the tree in place of the Fairy Godmother. And, that in another part of the Brother's Grimm's version (Again, go watch Jon Solo's.), that the ball lasted for three days and that she wore three different dresses and shoes to attend the ball. Especially, because of the Rule of Three (Back then, a lot of stories follow/had the Rule of Three incorporated in them.).

    The stories Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm collected are each a lesson making children aware of the dangers in the world. For instance, Rotkäppchen pronounced ROAT - kepp - shen (Little Red Riding Hood) is about adult men predators preying on young girls. They reflect reality and how unjust and cruel it is.

    As a kid I actually read the orihinals.. very very different. There was no god-mother, basicly the spirrit of her mother inhabited a tree in thier garden. Cinderelle crys under the tree and a walnut falls hitting her on the head. When she craks it open its said there was a dress as black as a midnight sky, with diamond woven into it. It looked a midnight sky with diamonds. She ground the husk of the walnut and sprinkeled them the entourge. ( i.e. the mice the hound and the pumpkin) and went to the balp. Now dont remember why she knew she cldnt stay past midnght. but befor the clocl struck midnnght she left. Being smitten the Prince holds another ball. Cinderella goes to the tree again. This time the dress and shoes were spun from gold threads. Same thing the the husk the ball then leaving. Now in the version I heard it was a fur slipper, but when being stranslated from french, they miss translated. ( I like the glass verson myself). The Prince wasnt going to lose this time so he had pitch/tar spread on the stairs and she lost her shoe. One even if it were glas, a glass shoe wouldnt surviive been danced on. The fur slipper was magic so it would only fit cinderella ( it would change size depending on who put it on ). Lady Tremaine figuered out/found out it was Cinderellea. When they came to the house Lady Tremaine had locked Cinderellea away. The Prince fed up basicly told Lady T stop jerking me arround or Ill have you all locked up!. Lady T would have gone to jail then see Cindeellea happy. Her daughters were NOT in agreement with that. The one sister states we have one more sister. Before they can place shoe on Cinderellas foot. Lady T knocks out the aides hand and kicks into the fire. Ellea starts laughing Lady T see shes insane. Cinderellea the great thing about shoes is the come in pairs. She then pulls the mate out. The tree gives her one more nut...its z wedding dress. At the wedding Cundy has birds pluck the step sisters eyes out. As wedding gift he told Lady T you said wouldnt dance at her wedding, but ih I think you will. He had had his blacksmith make lead shoes that heated untill they were white hot...they slapped them on Lady T who did a dance of sorts untill she dropped down dead! OUCH!

    Cut of their heals and toes to fit in the shoe. Of some reason I had the original story as a kids book as a kid. But I didnt really thought about how dark the story was (in my kid mind it was just a story so) until I was alot older.

    In my opinion, the stepmother should have been punished as well, since she was nasty towards Cinderella as well. Same with dad for neglecting her

    It would be cool to make a version of it but of course they should not encourage children to watch that, but instead say,” well here’s a true movie folks watch it at yar own risk”

    I did grow up with the none Disney version of Cinderella but not Brothers Grimm. I guess the ones I grew up with where rewritten versions. I even saw a play of once. the story was basically the same tho. A kind young woman named Cinderella lived with her step family who where cruel to her , she wanted to go to a ball at the castle. she dances with the prince and runs off leaving a glass slipper behind. he eventually finds her and the two get married. I prefer the Disney version to the original, the original is really messed up

    When I was little and watched the new Disney into the woods they showed this story. When Lady Tremaine was cutting up their feet they bit into towels and screamed. They obviously didn't show it so I asked my mom why are they screaming? She didn't answer.

    I read the originals! I said "Oh my gosh, there is no fairy godmother!" I thought "what a jerk!" When I read about the father. I thought that the big bad wolf was a child molestor. These tales are scary! Watch Into the Woods.
