Very clever way to replace the brake lever without removing the plastic nacelle. Nicely done!!🙂

Anyone coming in here and not understanding, here's some tips. The LEFT brake lever/handle operates the REAR drum brake. Conversely, the RIGHT lever operated the FRONT disk brake.
In this video he is replacing the LEFT lever. To do that the FIRST thing you do (other than buy the lever you need on Amazon ($10 in 2019), is LOOSEN the drum brake cable that goes from the rear drum brake to the left lever on handle bar. See 0:46 at the video. That shows the left side of the rear tire.
Note: The reason he marked it with a felt tip or laundry marker is so that he does NOT have to fool with adjusting the rear brake cable, which is done at the rear adjustment nut. Although not clear, he marked it at the bolt thread, where it mates with the adjusting nut. Pause at 0:48 to see.
Loosen the nut sufficiently so that it releases enough tension on the rear brake cable (again, that goes from the brake drum on the rear wheel to the handlebar on the left grip). You need to release tension so the cable can be released at the front lever.
At 1:15 the rubber he is talking about is the little rubber shroud/housing that protects the brake lever from rain and moisture being forced in when riding in wet conditions.
Bonus Tip: Where he is forcing the screwdriver into lever, you can put a piece of cloth against the plastic fairing to protect it from screwdriver damage.
    Hope that helps.

I had my scooter for 25 minutes and it fell and the left brake handle broke. Its the first 25 minutes I ever had on a scooter . Live and learn I guess.

Thank u so much. I couldn't figure it out at first. My mistake was not loosening the back bolt. Now I can finish the replacement. Wind blew mine over roo and broke it.

Thanks for this -- instructions worked great for my 2004 Yamaha Zuma, just the same as your Buddy scooter. Brake Handle part was $11 from the local Yamaha dealer, and 20 minutes later it was replaced on the scooter.
The screw head started stripping right away, so switched to a socket on the end of a screwdriver (there was not enough clearance for the socket wrench) and that worked perfectly and quickly, so go with that instead of the wrench to make the job much faster.

you dont have to remove the nut near the rear brake. just loosen it and then push the back arm enough to give you slack in the brake cable

Thank you for this! My scooter fell over a couple months ago and the left brake lever was actually noticeably further from the throttle after the fall, but it still started and worked fine. Tonight, however, I drove it to a friend's house and left it there to go eat. When we came back from dinner, the lever was completely loose and I couldn't start it. I'm going back to her place tomorrow to try to tighten it with your video. One thing that I didn't quite understand is where the nut is located that you loosed and marked with a marker.

On the rear wheel the nut long bolt is what i was talking about. Hope this makes sense:

For avoidance of doubt. Even with the left brake handle broken I was able to start it up applying the right brake handle and hitting the start button.

This video is quite helpful. Thank you! I wonder if you have advice on how to keep the part you need to push the screw through from moving. I've tried this a dozen times and can't for the life of me get it to align. Then next thing I know that spring is popping out again. Is there a way to push the spring inward much at all at the point?
Thanks for any ideas! Have a good one. 🛵

Help!!!! Same thing happened. Love the video BUT the screw and bolt maybe aren’t original. Screw seems super soft and stripped right out. Bolt will not budge. Any ideas? I appreciate it.

Please Help! I ordered a Left/Rear drum brake lever with switch to replace a lever that broke. The new lever does Not have a spring on the pivot point of the handle to keep the switch in the closed position when it is not being pulled back. My old brake lever does have a recess in the pivot point to accommodate the spring and it has the spring thus keeping the switch in the closed position. How could the new lever I bought possibly work without the spring? I don't see that it can.

Used this video after a meth chronic/drunk tourist pushed over all the bicycles on the street, including my moped in Honolulu. Missed the show by 30 seconds apparently.
