This is is an extraordinary performance! It really is a great marriage of HIP technique and modern orchestra (augmented with natural horns). Perfect tempi, minimal vibrato, divided violin desks, and a sense of forward momentun with the phrasing. Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli and the Kammerorchester Basel are a match made in heaven in Mozart!
The best interpretation of this Mozart Symphony n40 i heard in my life! TOP, every single musical note is chiseled! TOP
bravo
Michelangeli was able to play these small chamber forces almost like a single instrument. This is real ensemble playing. The natural horns added period authenticity and the recording was crisp and clear. How often have I heard the 40th before without really _hearing_ it? The whole work seemed to have more gravity and complexity than I'd ever appreciated before.
Mozart's spirit has been completely and accurately channelled through every single member of this magnificent orchestra. There's passion, and restraint. There's formality, and playfulness. Thanks for your superb musicianship. Mozart feels grateful, and more than pleased.
What a terrific interpretation of such a masterpiece and showcasing every single melodic with intensive counterpoints. Bravo.
High-quality production with a great ensemble. Congratulations!
Brilliant performance and well produced too.
I have loved the 2nd movement since I was a kid.
Music is the spirit of Lord.
Brilliant performance.
Love from India
Thank you
Bravo! An exceptional performance which I will enjoy playing for my students when we cover Baroque, Classical, and Romantic Periods. Thank you for posting this, and thank you to the performers and conductor.
Small orchestra with one double bass, but sounded great. Good job.
I can literally feel my brain getting smarter while listening to this.
jajajaj a great
not only the brain, my eyesight usually getting better, maybe because blood flow getting better
When I listen to this, I can feel every emotion I've ever felt in my life.
Chills throughout! Best of the best!!!
i got chills from listening to the first movement. Great job!
Very well played. With passion, poise and precision.
grande Umbertone!!!
The textural sharpness allows a better understanding of the counterpoint, and instrumental participation. Dynamic contrasts should address the greatest strong-gentle distance, but the overall articulation is perfect. One of the best interpretations I heard (according to my listening).
Great performance! And the quality of the video and sound is superb. Bravo!
Complimenti !

Such small orchestra, yet such monumental interpretation of this masterpiece.
Just repaired my Sennheiser HD 558 Headphones. First thing to do is listen to Symphony No. 40 :-)
Great performance, thank you.
Fantastic
Great --dynamics and "snap" were exactly what Mozart intended. Very dramatic and powerful. Congratulations.
How do you know what Mozart intended?
Great,fantastic.
So beautiful!!
Englsh, mafaka. English.

So who the fuck placed an obnoxious ad between movements? Please wait until the end pf the symphony, for Heaven's sake!
This is fundamentally the same way modern dance music is sequenced from samples; a good producer isn't just ordering the samples in a simple list, it's all about what you can DO with the samples - chopping them up and shuffling their parts, re-triggering them at various offsets, adding various forms of modulations to their repeats etc.
The first movement especially - it's like the guy had an Akai sampler and Cubase installed in his head. Like an 18th century DJ Zinc. More than genius - it's badass.
MOZART MOZART!!! GREAT MOZART
BRAVO, SIMPLY AMAZING ...
BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE
CONGRATULATIONS ......

This is one of the best K550s on this site. Perhaps a little dramatic for a period piece? Trouble transitioning out of the valleys when they are so deep? Maybe
there was this watch commercial in my country that has this music leitmotif played for i think a few years on... when i was 7-8 years old. i think it was rolex?
Such big sound from a small orchestra!
It's a lovely performance! However, being a clarinetist I'm biased against it because it's the version without clarinets. :(
Dumb Wavy. Good Job
TFW 5:44 hits and you realize they're playing natural horns :^o
it's nice of them to work in cough breaks for the audience.
Isn't the theme at 24:11 supposed to be played by a clarinet, not by an oboe or am I just going crazy hahah; also, why aren't there clarinets in the orchestra?
This performance is of what is most likely the first version of the symphony. There is also a version with two clarinets, which is thought to have come about after Mozart heard his symphony performed and decided to improve it by addition of the clarinets and adjustment to the other parts to fit them. The original manuscripts of both survive today and both are autographed by Herr Mozart; it seems he just wanted to make a few tweaks.
The best Mozart is almost impossible to play...
almost.
I didn't know Howard Stern plays first chair violin. Lol
Btw, is the conductor related to the famous pianist??
Yes, he is Arturo's nephew.
5:25
Muchas seguridad i formativa pero no atienden los telefonos¡!
Here is a proof that size doesn't really matter...just kidding...This is perfect!
That poor violinist looks like he's having to play through passing a kidney stone.
I think he's just very passionate and concentrated? Love his playing :)

Excellente version !
(humour..)
Excellent production, but it sounds like this is where covid-19 started!
