Absolutely beautiful -- they are all completely immersed in the piece and each other. They are so attentive to every note and section. An excellent, well-filmed recording. Of the 'Octet' performances I've listened to, this is superb. Their engagement is captivating and infectious.

The Octet Assemble gives a radiant sparkle of serenity and regal. The epitome of class!!! The musicians have a great synchronise exchange of communication. Extraordinary recording. Delightful to see and listen to Sol Gabetta.

Yes those two words--sadness n nostalgia and I would add sadness for unfulfilled dreams and failed love pursuit and the prospect of facing life wounded.....
As the Austrians say, the situation is desperate, but not serious. Alfred Brendel (the greatest living Schubertian, imho) mentions that motto occasionally.
An incredibly compelling performance! This piece is absolutely delightful, and even though it's quite lengthy I didn't once feel bored - owing to the composer and performers' brilliance equally. Bravo!
I heard a live performance of this once, just the once, and that was nearly 50 years ago. However the main themes were so catchy, that even now listening to this wonderful perfor.mance, it all comes back again.

I have to admit that I've accidentally missed out on listening to Franz Schubert's music for many years now, which was quite silly of me as Schubert was one of the greatest composers ever, and hearing this stupendous work here has been a really pleasant surprise. I'll listen to more of Schubert's music from now on. Brilliant world class players here as well.

Schubert is a composer that I visit rarely, but whenever I listen to his music I feel amazed. Such a great Genius. Unfortunately he left us at 32, what a pitty... Great perfomance. I love how the clarinet mingles with the wooden instrument.

It's interesting to hear the strong cello, as typically played by Sol Gabetta, reinforced by the double-bass playing an octave lower as played by Robert Vizvari. The result is very nice. In total by all these fine players, a great rendition of Schubert's beautiful piece.
This is an extremely synergistic performance that creates a total very much greater than the sum of its parts. There is so much heart and soul coming from each player that you can't help but feel drawn into something very musically and emotionally satisfying. Bravo!!!!!

What a performance! The best I've ever heard, and I was a professional music reviewer for 20 years. The wide dynamic range of this group was so effective. Because their PP was so soft, their FF was never blaring and over done. Perfecto!!
I am always reminded of my excellent eighth grade teacher and a few in earlier grades who constantly warned us to avoid superlatives. Never the best. Never the worst. Never unsurpassed. About 40 yrs ago a classically trained friend picked up in a record store this Octet & said "Buy this!, & I did. After listening for a few times concluded was among my favorite Schubert pieces!

The sense of expansiveness the bass gives this work is majestic.
Also the double bass and cello sound very clearly and are recorded exceptionally well.
