Weird story, but the internet is anonymous so I’ll share. A couple months ago I went through a rough alcohol withdrawal, and my brain was on overdrive for a few days. This first movement was stuck in my head relentlessly during this time. One night, I couldn’t sleep and had a hallucination/dream-like state that I was hearing this piece loud, bright, and clear as if through headphones. I picked up so many details I had never heard before,l and felt an intense elation, blown away by what a genius Mozart was and soaking in every bit of this first movement. The rest of the night was far less pleasant than that but I fell in love and have been listening to this over and over again ever since. Anyways I’m 37 days sober now with no plans to go back. I’m at this comment section often so I figured I’d leave this little story here. ❤

Excellent performance. So much passion, enthusiasm, which no doubt is the fruit of so much rehearsal from those who love the music of Mozart. On a sad note, Glastonbury pulls thousands to listen to popular music. I note how empty the hall was here. I know where I would want to be.
Jupiter and the fortieth symphony are the most mature of all of Mozart's works ( beside his Operas ) , yet we do not miss the clear and limpid spirit, an unparalleled character in Mozart. 😍
lol 'most mature' of Mozart's music isn't saying much, tbh. Guy took advantage of the most formulaic period in music history to seem like a genius to rich people, sucked up to rich people most of his life, and it got him buried in a mass unmarked grave with barely anyone there. Beethoven labored and toiled over the emotional journey of his music, had real emotional struggles in his life unlike Mozart who was a spoiled brat baby up to the end, exceeded Mozart in every way to bring music into a new era of expression, and it shows. I don't want music to roll over me like a candy coating like this BS--it needs to hit hard or don't bother. Mozart could write 10 symphonies like this every single day and not a single one would matter that much. Overrated.

@@somethingtojenga I think the person who would most fervently disagree with you would be.. Beethoven! He revered Mozart and took great inspiration from him, writing variations and other pieces based on his work. I appreciate your pulling down the Mozart mythos… but on balance- Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and their contemporaries all had to suck up to their rich patrons. It was a predicament they all were forced to navigate. I think too, there were philosophical, cultural and political forces that shifted attitudes and styles over time. Beethoven was in many ways, a product of his cultural milieu as much as Mozart was, and was not the sole mover of an entire society toward the romantic period. I also think we should humanize Beethoven a little bit as you did with Mozart. Mozart probably was a brat. Beethoven too was a deeply troubled man who wrestled away his nephew from his mom, into his own care, only to be so harsh that he drove him to attempt suicide. I think both of these men typify the paradox of human experience - contradictions, extremes, full of genius and heights of beauty, and ugly flaws and struggles, and the playing out the inherited sins of their fathers. But to each his own when it comes to taste. Musically, you’d have an uphill battle arguing that Mozart is not both a genius of composition and widely adored the world over! And perhaps most of all, by the great Beethoven!
Exceptional artistry, camera work, and everything else that it takes to produce such a magnificent piece of work. Greatness is inculcated within this reduced size sonata/fugue of 5 themes.
There is everything to like in this work but for me, my favorite parts are in the second fiddles at the beginning of the minuet and that last part beginning at 28:15.
