I was diagnosed having Bipolar Disorder Type I, Anxiety Disorder, and Generalized Depression around the same time, and listening to this song has gotten me through the darkest times of my life, and still does. The lyrics are exactly how I have felt a million times, especially when I was so close to ending it all. Just listening to the lyrics, knowing other people out there are feeling exactly like I am, helps me some, in not feeling so alone when I hit bottom. I know after watching the story about this song, that he wrote it about what his best friend, who was also his roommate back then, and the lyrics are describing the mental hell/breakdown his friend was going through, and they were both so young, and he didn't know how to help his best friend. His friend was hospitalized, and he told his friend that he wrote the song about him, and asked him if it was ok with him if he released it. His friend was very supportive, and said yes of course.

I was 20 when this song came out in 2000. I wasn't suicidal or a cutter, but this song still captured how I felt, like an outcast, outsider, never really fitting in, feeling lonely, feeling ugly, it captured all the feelings I had and put it on a song. I felt the same with Linkin Park too, their music helped lift me out of my darkness. Thanks music, you've always been there for me 🤘💯🤘
As a kid this was the first song i listened too outside of what my normal rotation of R&B, and 90's rap. It was the song in our neighborhood that united my friend group who was made up of a bunch of kids from different cultural backgrounds. Still hits hard in 2023. Brings back such feel good feelings from the early 2000's music scene.
I went to a wedding where the newly weds were irish and when the bride came down the isle they played this song instead of normal wedding music. Best wedding ever

Both are amazing, but I had to come back to this one for nostalgia and I am absolutely so glad I did. This song impacted me as a teen so heavily that I can actually the first time I ever heard it and instantly going and buying a Papa Roach CD.
I have heard so many people say/write online that they didn't realize how deep this song is. Glad to see people come back to the original to see how much of a gem this song is.
Can we show some appreciation for this video. Its genius. Real fans/real people at the core of this video. Making it genuine, relatable and real. thats why we can connect to it so well the lyrics. Everyone feels sorrow and pain. You and me. It will always work out for the better as long as you hang on there.
It's crazy that a song that age like 20+ years ago is still being watched and commented on by a lot of people. This song ageing like a fine wine! Rock on!
:) It's the sign of timeless talent. Much of my favorite stuff is from the early 70's to late '80s. My oldest daughter is in her 30s. Our musical tastes cross over a lot. I love a lot of her stuff and she does mine. It's so cool to connect with one another in our 'angst music' LOL
@@Rxnin_KagemxriI mean, this song is about an actual story about their roommate who attempted to take his own life This entire song is basically a suicide awarness And this song is one of the many that brought the entire issue mainstream and helped a lot of people So while you look at it as if it is cringe, the actual story behind it and what it has done is nothing to scoff at

18 years old and this song came out loved it absolutely banging into it at the club and now I’m 42 and it still is a banger and if you’re here in 2024 none of the music that is out today can compare to any of the music we listened to back in 2000
Im 31 and I grew up with this music. I often wonder how other kids from this era (like the ones depicted in the video) are doing - how their lives are going now
They're too busy tiktoking and waste time on other stupid stuff instead of being profound and creative in their own genuine way, but i won't put all in the same pot, special people, are always hidden
"This song was a cry for help. That song was about one of my best friends, and then 12-13 years later, that song was about me. I found myself in that place, where I was like, “I can’t go on this way. I can’t do it anymore.” It’s awesome when your cry for help gets answered. My band has had my back over these years, and my friends and my family. That song is timeless and it connects with who we are today and what we do today in a major way." -Jacoby Shaddix
Still remember the time when I was an angry teen ager listening to this song. Seems like it’s yesterday and I can’t believe how time just flies. Love this song, this band . Thank you guys for being my friends in my past years and now,too . 💪 rock on
@filleswe91 I was a student when I listened to this song for the first time. No money,no job so I asked my mother I needed 40€ for a gift…so I bought that lovehatetragedy stuff with whom I was in love at first listening. That was my music. That’s my kinda music I like most. I’m still angry ,the world is insane. Too insane but music can help you to go through . I can rely to the lyrics they write,it’s something that concerns each of us. But again the music they play is something magic. Is it that nu metal scene ? Maybe. But papa roach is still today one of my favourite bands.
That little girl on America's got talent she's 10 years old and she was playing the song and it reminded me of my teenage angst so I came here for nostalgia. I wonder if the kids are going to bring back metal.
Same because I really miss growing up in the 2000s but alot of comments saying they came here because of that girl or didn't know before that are really pissing me and I'm really disappointed with them lol
@@indiangum4691 , becoz many of us have forgotten it and the little girl made us to remember this old but old song. Nothing wrong in saying that lil girl Maya made us to revisit here and listen to this wonderful song.
As I was a kid who didn’t know English good enough to actually understand the lyrics, I thought it’s just a catchy song. It still is catchy, but now I can understand it and relate to it. Songs like this really do help a little to continue to exist (I can’t call my existence a “life”).

Because the adults when we Wer kids didnt tell us properly about the meaning of the song, the adults in that time just censored the song instean of teaching. And thats why we now as adults feel different the song because we now understand what they are singing about. So its time now for us as adults tell the kids what means this song a they will don't grow up with ignorance like we did.
This entire era of music was art. During this period you’d goto a show and everyone would be completely engaged, with the band and with one another. No cell phones- no distractions.
if you are going through depression.. please remember… someone somewhere out there probably loves you. it’s not over, you still have a little hope waiting. stay alive
i came back to this video and song, just after listening to falling in reverse's cover of it released today. So glad that both exist, and that Papa Roach allowed it to re-invent itself. Jacoby and his band's lyrics hit a whole new perspective. Fun story, Papa Roach filled in for Saving Abel during a A7x tour i went to back in '08 i think. Totally stole the show, walking into the crowd and climbing up the NHL hockey bleachers that were stored away so that he could reach the second level of the arena. So greatful to see him in concert!
This song will never feel old. Even the MV is so fresh, still radiating the raw emotions through screens. As kids we enjoy the song As adults we understand it.
"I was just putting it out on the table, you know, this is what this guy went through, and this is how he felt. It has a positive edge to it, as far as like, ‘Don’t succumb to it. Keep yourself afloat. With these problems in your life, find a friend you can confide in.’" -Jacoby Shaddix
This is how my brother died. I was his protector. I checked on him every day. I lived 1000 miles away. but he continued to shut everyone out. It took them 2 weeks in Texas heat, to find his body. His 17 year old daughter found him. It was almost exactly a month since her mom died. Please talk to someone. We love you. We will never get over it. 😢
Where did time go? Feels like it was just yesterday. This song helped me get through my teenage years. Shit was tough. It’s so crazy how I was wondering if I can do “it” and here it is 15+ yrs later listening to this & remembering where I was back then. That “I’m crying” part always got me. Got me again just now, but atleast this time it’s off of a memory.

Cut my life into pieces
This is my last resort
Suffocation, no breathing
Don't give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding
This is my last resort
Cut my life into pieces
I've reached my last resort
Suffocation, no breathing
Don't give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding
Do you even care if I die bleeding?
Would it be wrong, would it be right
If I took my life tonight?
Chances are that I might
Mutilation out of sight
And I'm contemplating suicide
'Cause I'm losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine
Losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine
I never realized I was spread too thin
'Til it was too late, and I was empty within
Hungry, feeding on chaos and living in sin
Downward spiral, where do I begin?
It all started when I lost my mother
No love for myself and no love for another
Searching to find a love upon a higher level
Finding nothing but questions and devils
'Cause I'm losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine
Losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine
Nothing's alright, nothing is fine
I'm running and I'm crying
I'm crying, I'm crying
I'm crying, I'm crying
I can't go on living this way
Cut my life into pieces
This is my last resort
Suffocation, no breathing
Don't give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding
Would it be wrong, would it be right
If I took my life tonight?
Chances are that I might
Mutilation out of sight
And I'm contemplating suicide

I don't care what the haters have to say about Papa Roach, their music got me through some tough shit in life. Papa Roach is a blessing
I just commented this, but I just read your comment, so I wanted to reply to what you said. I was 23 when this song came out. At the time, mentally I was going through the deepest, darkest, most painful and hopeless depression.
Blasting this out and joining in is theraputic for those not good at articulating feelings... Its a good thing not negative.

It's because it's stupidly hilarious and cringe. It's a bunch of emo garbage, but fun to listen to.
