Mets fan here, and the same exact age as yourself during the series that year. I was actually at game 2 of the series where Gooden had gotten destroyed which resulted in the Sox taking a seemingly insurmountable 2-0 lead in the series. Shea stadium was like a tombstone that night. Who the fuck knew they were going to turn the whole thing around going back to Boston right after their staff ace got rocked? To be honest, as great as that whole team was, I give full credit for the comeback to Lenny Dykstra & Ray Knight - who were the 2 main big-time motivational catalysts on the team that year. Why Cashen refused to re-sign Knight for an extra year at 1 million per (Knight still had several decent years left at age 33) is totally beyond me, and no doubt the reason why the team couldn't get past the Cardinals the following year - as Howard Johnson was in no way, shape or form the team leader & catalyst that Knight was, but of course that's only my opinion.
Simms did a great job of keeping things under control quickly. Not many others could have done that. And soon, Phil Simms would have his own championship.
What a year to be a NY fan... Mets and Giants!! And what a tremendous stroke of good luck to have this game scheduled for Monday Night Football. Remember, game 7 of the world series was pushed back to Monday from Sunday because of rain.

LOL that's like me, a Rangers and Mets fan. I'm supposed to be an Islanders and Mets fan, but I hate the Islanders. Also a Jets fan though, sorry. But 2 out of 3 ain't bad!

I'm the stereotypical Yankees/Giants/Knicks/Rangers fan, but I don't root against the Mets or Jets unless my team is playing them. Islanders and Nets, however are a different story.
