you can see how happy the players were, players are happy if they win nowadays but it is not with the same emotion as baseball is a business and it was still a game in the 80s
These guys were more concerned with drinking and getting high rather than baseball. They'd ask for days off after rough nights. That's how undedicated they were. They just also happened to have an insane amount of talent.
@@Sendeezy they were humans, humans went out drinking and getting high (if you had the money) and they also enjoyed winning games, baseball is a business now, you don't see players having the same emotions as the game aspect is secondary to the money making aspect nowadays
The players today are pussies. The pitchers only go five innings.. they don’t play through injuries they make way too much money that’s why they don’t care.
Where were they hiding this all these years ?! The greatest and toughest team in sports history !!! 1986 NEW YORK METS The Team that REFUSED TO LOSE !!
Was 14 years old. Started as a fan in '80. '80-'83 were some baaaaad times. Heard that we had guys like Gooden and Strawberry in the minors. Came close in '84 and even closer in '85. '86 will always be a special year for me. Mets in October and Giants (granted early '87) a few months later. Only sad this is seeing Gooden. Wish someone would have pulled him aside that night and warned him to stay away from the coke. Missed the parade the next day and was the start of bad times for him. He could never get his '85 form back again. Team was too talented to only win on chip. Hope springs eternal that we do it again...maybe soon?
I watched this game the other day and Sid Fernandez was the absolute unsung hero. Not deserving of mvp but he turned game 7 around for them. Also. I wonder if the mayor was in heaven being in that locker room?😂😂😂😂
I’ve been a Mets fan for nearly 4 decades, and I’ve never seen this footage and watching it for the first time, I have the same feels I had experiencing similar moments live during my childhood. Sincerely, thank you for that.
Another boneheaded trade by the NYM. Michell should have been a Met for life. Then they turned around and traded Roger McDowell, Lenny Dykstra and Mookie Wilson for garbage in return. M. Donald Grant would have been proud.
@@duaneaponte696 I still shake my head at those awful trades of the late 1980’s. Remember the last game of the 1989 season when Greg Jeffries grounded out to end the game and immediately went after Roger McDowell? I se that in real time and clearly was the height of the Mets dysfunction.
And who would of thought at that momenet that would be the last time mitchell and more importantly Knight would wear a met uniform. How do you not bring that exact team back as special as it was for the next year?! Team was never the same after losing knight and may of been a big factor as to why the 87 and 88 teams were just lacking that little something special and totally under achieved.
And equally as important as letting Ray Knight #22, go to Baltimore was that his replacement was basically kevin mcreynolds #22. I know that they played different positions. Knight and McReynolds were as opposite as can be in terms of attitude, Knight was about team and winning. McReynolds was about shooting ducks in the off-season. Hold on though, this trade was much worse than what was seen on the surface. It also cut into the playing time of Lenny and Mookie and opened up 3rd base for Howard Johnson. Hojo was a good player but he wasn’t the winning team player that Ray Knight was or the spark plug that were Nails & Mook. So basically the difference of 1986 and 1987 is that 86 gave up major Team SPIRIT. KNIGHT, half of Mookie, half of Lenny and all of Kevin Mitchell to bring in (I don’t give a damm about winning) Kevin Mc and a full time Howard Johnson. And that is the difference right there, my Fellow long suffering Mets Fans
Knight wanted a bump and he had a right to ask for one and the Mets felt HoJo could handle third. To me that's not as big a mistake as trading Mitchell and bringing in McReynolds. I liked McReynolds but he was an AWFUL fit with the Mets. Mitchell could play 7 positions and could hit for power.
the mets partied that night. i dont know how most of them made it to the parade the next morning (we know what happened with doc) and reason the parade was the next morning was because game 7 got rained out the day before this game

Keith and Gary, what a joy it was having them on the team together!! I was at this game, and i will never forget it!! I was 17 years old.
I am the one and only cameraman allowed on the field after the last out. I shot from 2:27 to 3:51. I'll never forget those shots.
Thanks for sharing. That's unforgettable to be there during the celebration
Cool
Wow! Great job you did! LGM!
Gary had the greatest smile and loved the game and true hall of famer..
We had a gig that night. You kept giving score updates after every song :)
😂 like when they interrupted the G-Men (who won the SB that yr themselves) vs Skins gm
Everytime I see this I tear up what a team that was⚾️⚾️⚾️ R.I.P. Gary Carter, Bill Robinson,Mel Sttotlemyre and Bud Harrelson
I was 11 years old when they won in '69, so I've seen both. Please give one more before I die.
I was 12 years old when they won in '86. Would love to see another before I die.
I was 10 when they won in 86
I've been a fan from the beginning, I so wanted them to win it all this year 😢, but they gave us an unbelievable season!
My favorite WS. I was 10 years old.

OOH, AMAZING FIND! The 1986 Mets were a team of destiny. From being one strike away from losing the WS, to winning it all...
Great time for the Mets fans ⚾ a fan since 69 ! Hoping they can make the playoffs and make a run 💙 !
The cocaine mountain was a mile high that night.

Worked with Marty Barrett's younger brother Joe in and Indiana casino. When I found out who he was I wore my Mets gear everywhere he was.
Haha! In person trolling I love it!
it should of been like this the next 2 years as well
Wow! Incredible footage.
Doc and Daryl were about to have some fun
Amazing😢
To see The Kid again....just the way you want to remember him...with that big smile on his face
I was 11 in 1986 when this happened I am 50 now I wonder if I am ever going to see this again.
You will, in 2025. I guarantee it
I was 11 in '69. So I know how you felt.
To think that Kevin Mitchell was traded because management thought he was a bad influence on Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden.
Yeah Mitchell didn't drink or take drugs or have a rap sheet.
And he goes on to be the NL MVP in 89 with the SF Giants.

Gary Carter ............. nothing but class .......... RIP !.
Back when there were no stupid sound effects blasting between every single pitch.
What a team the mets had that year. It was certainly something special.
These 2024 mets gotta feel these vibes and energy and win today and get in the dance!!! Come on boys... LGM 2024
I had to subscribe simply because Louie posted this gem. I was 25 when this took place and I'm STILL waiting...
There are quite a few people from this clip that are no longer with us.😢
I miss Gary
...All this was made possible when Roger Clemens was removed in game 6 with a 2 point lead 🤦♂️
Great for Garry he's the man
I'm watching this as emotional therapy in May '24 ... LFGM 🍎 🗽 🧡 💙

Why was the parade the very next day?!?
Game 7 was originally scheduled for the day before this so was a rain out -- otherwise would have been two days after Game 7.
I went to the parade that Tuesday. It was insane!

its really too bad that the mets would be chokers after this!
