Hopkins really doesn't get the credit he deserves from fans imo, he's incredible as Odin.
I think he really only excels in this one tbh. Thor 2 most of the actors including Hopkins didn’t give a shit XD and the last one he’s good but it’s tone doesn’t allow for him to shine through the same way
Hopkins is incredible in literally every role he's in. I love him in Westworld
What more credit do you want? I think the fans like him a lot. I mean it’s probably the first 2 Thor movies just had a bad name, but he was one of the best highlights from them.
@@somegeekguy tbf out of all the things in the mcu that fans talk about, Odin ranks pretty low on the list. Personally I think the first 2 Thor movies get way too much hate. There are far dumber movies in the series.
@@mikehunt69981 fair enough, but maybe it’s because Odin is just more of a beacon character. Like nobody cares much for Hank Pym even though we know he’s the original ant Man. No one cares that much about Agent Carter even though she is a love interest to Steve and even had her own tv show, no one cares for Tony starks dad that much until it moves the plot like it did in civil war, no one cares about tchallas dad that much either. Same with Odin. and it’s not just necessarily “care” but more for relevance. Odin isn’t going to be serving much to the overall story unless it’s to push the character we really care for.

She really has no idea how massive the MCU is. It's like watching someone stuck in 2012 in terms of superhero knowledge, I don't think she can connect this to Wanda Vision in any possible way.
Yeah, she won't start making connections to wandavision until age of ultron.
Considering almost none of the characters or things in WandaVision -besides Darcy- have been introduced or even alluded to yet, yeah that makes sense.

Comic books are an industry which is nearly a century old. Hundreds of superheroes in dozens of universes.
The funniest thing about the Thor franchise I find is regardless of if people love or absolutely hate these movies, everyone seems to love Heimdall. Given how little screen time he has compared to the other characters.

Fun Thor fact: Anthony Hopkins improvised the part where he barks at Loki to get him to shut up when casting out Thor. That's actually Tom Hiddleston's shocl reaction to the gravitas of a veteran actor. It's literally an actor falling silent in the presence of another actor.
I was going to comment on this part, but figured someone would beat me to it. There are some great improv moments in the MCU and that is one of them.
Thor is extremely underrated, most get distracted by the dutch angles and shakespearean dialouge and can't appreciate the film. Definitly a top-tier phase 1 movie.
IKR! This movie was the first MCU movie me and my dad saw in theaters. We saw Iron man 1 and 2, and hulk, but we watched them at home and on dvd. So not only do I like this movie a lot, I’m kind of nostalgic for it. It was also a movie I took my dad to see it on his birthday!
I think most people can look past those things....and see a pretty pedestrian movie that's really forgettable.

The scene where Loki confronts Odin before he falls into the Odin sleep, after watching all the rest of the MCU really helps to remind how vulnerable and hurt he really was all this time. Especially in the context of the next movies
I really enjoyed Thor, my biggest gripes were the eyebrows and the dutch angles. Hearing Jen's thoughts on the characters she's drawn to, I think she's really going to like Captain America

I was surprised that they didn't have anything to say about all of the Dutch angles. I just went back and watched this last month with some friends and I honestly had a headache after it was all said and done because of all the Dutch angles.
@@Chipper1095 I had no idea what a Dutch angle was when I saw Thor for the first time and I didn't notice them at all. Now that I do know, and now that it's been pointed out just how much they're used in the movie, now I notice them. It still doesn't bother me, but I can see how it's not something that Jen would have noticed.
It's so hard to look at the eyebrows
I love this movie and I've never noticed eyebrows or dutch angles. I was more into the Asgard sets, the costumes, and the jokes. I guess people just focus on different things when they watch a movie.

One of the most underrated MCU movies IMO. It has great style and I love the themes and ideas of worthiness. I think about Thor must’ve felt when Loki visited him in the facility. It’s so hard for someone to hear all that but he still came to the thinking that has to start a new life. It’s beautiful and Shakespearean and Kenneth Branagh was the perfect choice to direct a movie with that tone
I personally think iron man 3 is the most underrated mcu film.
I remember loving this one because it was so funny. Looking back on it now, it's got a couple funny moments but it's a fairly serious film. It was just that at the time superhero movies took themselves SO seriously for the most part it was a breath of fresh air. All that said, this one is still great and holds up

THOR has one of my favorite of all character arcs. He's constant changing because of all his trauma and growing and its just a pleasure to watch.

Exactly. That’s getting rarer and rarer for me... but I saw District 9 that way, no trailers, opening midnight showing. One of my favorite movie watching experiences and one of my all time fave movies.

The other week my brother showed me The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (amazon prime) out of nowhere. A great experience.
I watch these, not only because they're fun, but also because watching Jen's reactions to Holden's responses is hilarious. The eye rolls at his humor and his open ended questions shows they know each other really well
It's weird how entertaining it is to see someone's reaction to a movie you like.
Marvel writes good characters, even boy scouts like Steve Rogers, he's ideology is tested multiple times in movies. I think Jen will like Cap just as much.
I love that in every Thor movie, his only weakness is electricity, since he gets tased in practically every one.
Also, the Unworthy speech given by Odin was improvised by Anthony Hopkins, and Tom Hiddleston had a line in the middle of that, but when Hopkins roared at him unexpectedly he was so in the moment scared by it he just shut up, and they kept it.

Mjolnir returning to Thor scene will never get old. Best scene in the movie IMO. Seeing Odin shed a tear even in his deep slumber as he feels his son dying gets me.
Knowing what we know about the hammer, I like to think it was Odin who sent the hammer to him.

My opinion:
Thor is severely underrated, even 'The Dark World' as well, i watched them both for the second time recently and they're not as high a standard as the most recent movies, but they're not as bad as i remembered.

I love the myth that surrounds the Norse religion. Dr. Selvig is played by Stellan Skarsgard (Awesome Actor) who is the father of a bunch of great actors as well. One being Gustav Skarsgard who plays FLOKI on "VIKINGS".

Because she has such a positive attitude. But to have someone objective and more neutral watch it, can also be good sometimes. Then you can see, how good these movies really are. How good the story is. When his friend got goosebumps, because of Endgame and he doesn’t even like science fiction that much, that means something.

Anthony Hopkins as Odin elevated this film to such great heights for me. The scene of Thor losing his honor makes this my favorite phase 1 movie ngl

AHHHHHHH I can't wait for Cap TFA. It's honestly my favorite movie from Phase 1 and phase 2. I hope that Jen finds a hardship that Cap faces to be an impactful one so that she likes the character. the thing is, he's super powerful. You don't really feel a connection to him or relate to him.
And also, his birth planet exploding and his birth parents being dead didn't really affect his life until he found he was an alien. He didn't know them. So yeah, that leaves just his father figure as something normal people can even relate.

I forgot just how good of a movie this one is. Anthony Hopkins is the perfect actor for Odin. The entire scene after getting back from Jotunheim is so powerful.

The fact is, everybody has difficult lives. Being a “Boy Scout” even makes things more difficult.
To illustrate my point, try living one month according to the ethics of Clark Kent or Steve Rogers. See how much daily effort and discipline goes into holding oneself to a very high standard in 21st Century society.
It’s easier being like Stark when one doesn’t concern themselves as much with “doing the right thing” to the extent Rogers does, because ego reigns supreme.

I had a friend ask me why I enjoy watching reaction videos like this. I think it’s because I get to relive the magic of seeing the MCU for the first time again through someone else’s eyes. I love seeing new people fall in love with the MCU
The source material for Thor really isnt all that different in the comics, just vastly expanded. Most of the traditional stories in Marvel that wouldve been the center of Norse myths are just that, tradition and myth that is talked about as past times.
The Frost Beast, for example, is based off of Norse runes and pottery featuring Jotunn with 4 legs and animal features.
Getting real nervous about those clone wars reactions...

I've noticed Jen wears metal band shirts in the last couple of videos (Soilwork, Killswitch Engage, Mastodon) but never noticed Holden. He usually wears Star Wars shirts. Do you remember him wearing any bands?

It was The Destroyer who Loki sent to earth. In the comics, where's no way Thor could have defeated him alone. Also, his beam once cut Thor's hammer in half.

Awesome to see Thor get some love! Fun fact: my 62-year-old mom eventually watched all the MCU movies with me, and the thing that got her in? Randomly catching Thor on TV. Thor is still her favorite MCU character.
