    One “upgrade” for this rig is to put a soft glow in the dark bead on the stinger. Run it so that if it goes over the trace and the stinger hook. The flow in the dark aspect is a bonus but it’s mainly to keep the stinger exactly where you want. You can slide it up and down as needed. When using a softer/floppier bait the soft bead stops the stinger moving down which stops the soft bait folding on itself. When a fish hooks up on the stinger it’ll still move down if needed.

    I have watched and re-watched your rig video time and time again (even earlier today) and have always thought of this rig to be supreme, mainly because of its simplicity and versatility. I just hopped on to TH-cam to look up 'stinger hook' videos and before I typed anything, this video was at the top of my recommended list. The fishing Gods are alive and well it seems!

      @@RogerOsborneFishing Been meaning to get back on here to confirm that yes, even a complete amateur like me can up their fishing game immediately with this rig! Caught the biggest bream of my life first time trying it out a few weeks ago (on a beach that I have never caught a fish on before as well). And guess what - brought him in on the stinger! Then, a few casts later, I reeled in my first ever salmon, a big one too. Had some more luck with this rig up the coast about a week ago as well, catching another bream which might have even bigger than the first!

    • @jimmybernasconi9000
      @jimmybernasconi9000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christopherwilson248 Hey mate. Literally just went to Coles and got a handful of the fresh prawns from the deli. I used to use the frozen ones you get at the servo but the fresh ones from Coles (either king or banana, uncooked obviously) are much better. I’ve even caught fish using the uncooked unseasoned packaged ones from woolies. Beach-wise, bagged the bream and salmon at Mollymook beach in NSW and then the other big bream up at Kingscliff near Tweed Heads. Since then, I’ve also had some luck off the beach at North Steyne in Sydney when the wind and waves have been moderate. Caught a bream and a dart last session and then hooked a HUGE salmon (could’ve been a shark I tell you) but it broke my line so I went home haha. But yeh mate, from one amateur to another, I’ve found fresh prawns and good conditions to be the biggest factors when it comes to catching decent fish. My cast is weak as and I don’t back myself to read a beach that well - just looking for the spots where the break meets the gut as Roger has taught us. Good luck out their my man!

    Thanks for the tips! Gonna give this a try - have been using similar 'stiinger' or snapper snell setups for a while, but actually, I've usually used a larger hook as the stinger, and my thinking is that because it's further up the line/trace, there's more chance of a larger fish getting hooked there, instead of the bottom hook, which I can then downsize to a smaller hook for the pickier and smaller specimens. Would this make sense, or do you have a reason for using the smaller hook as the stinger?

    Just stumbled upon this video. As a angler myself based in the UK it's always nice to see what other parts of the world do. Over here we call this a "pennel rig."
    Personally I use them a lot for my fishing. Look up "Pulley Pennel dropper" or a "Up and over rig" although the line crimps/Metal sleves you use arn't really a thing here we tend to use lower profile knots on our pennels and most rigs to allow bigger baits to slide over the knots easier to make better use of the "stinger."
    Tight lines

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrew, thanks for saying Hello. Sorry for the slow reply.
      I looked up the Pennel Rig as you suggested. It seems that the sinker is fixed similar to what we call a Paternoster Rig.
      With the deadliest rig I have a running sinker on the main line with a shorter leader of about 40cm (15 inches).
      I trust that the Pulley Pennel rig works well.
      Thanks for the info.

    first of all, great rig!, i havent been surf fishing yet but recently got a surf rod and will be sure to give this a crack. second off all, i think its great that this is nearly a knotless rig, as i have found tying knots with thicker lines to be a bit tricky sometimes. lastly, what size and stlyle sinker, probaly something in the rangers of 5oz i would assume?, and you would you tie a breakaway dropper to attach the sinker or just leave it running on the mainline (maybe do a vid to explain how?)

      Hi Owen, have the sinker running on the main line. Depending on your line breaking strain I use either a 55gm or 110gm star sinker.

    Hello Roger, do you use this rig and hook sizes on your medium or light setup?

  • @Antipodean33
    @Antipodean33 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mate I'm nearly 60 and I've done this same rig since I can remember, but in nylon not wire. I reckon I've used it since a 10 year old. It's great to see you also think it's a winner

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome. It is a great set up. Fish are not bothered by the wire and it saves you when the Tailor come in.

      The sinker is a running sinker on the main line

      Thanks Talent Searcher, Strip baits/ fillets are best or half a Pilchard. Yes you can use a slider and a bomb sinker

    I’m amazed that the squashing of the small tubing is strong enough to withstand the force of the fish. Have you ever experienced a fish pulling the wire back through the tube and hence having the rig fall apart? Looks like the squashing of the wire trace in the tube is stronger than a really good fishing knot?

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gocky88, No I have never had a fish pull the rig apart. Not even big stingrays and sharks.

    Hi mate.
    I’ve got a quick question regarding this hook setup.
    Could you see any reason why this hook setup wouldn’t work on a standard paternoster rig setup?
    Instead of a single hook dropper you could run this double hook setup?

    That looks awesome Roger, could you use this in a estuary for flatties or just stick to the beach.

    In UK we put a piece of silicon tubing on stinger hook. Then thread the line or wire trace through the hook and tubing. This way you can fix the hook further up the trace. UK called a pennel rig

    Hi Roger, great video. How do you bait a pilchard on this rig with the wire trace. Your video BEST BAITS for Beach Fishing shows how to attach a half pilchard using mono. How would you attach pilchard to hooks (main and stinger) and with wire trace doing a half hitch?? I think there is allot of us wondering...

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shane, you bait it the same as with mono but you can't do the half hitch. That's OK it works just fine. If you use a fillet bait it works really well but I still use half pilchards

    Hey rogger nice rig I use the same but I use 15 kg line for whiting and my mate use to use 8 lb line and I use to catch more using beach worms he used the same worms and same spot and long shanks it shows that it is the best and when I watched this I Was thinking he better say this rig and you did haha i even traveled 2 hrs to bilgowa to catch worms like in your vidio good spot for a fish to would love to go beach fishing with you someday 👍
