  • Today on Buckle Up, Rob takes the new 2024 MG4 EV for a spin. Offering over 240 horsepower, a 323 mile range and with prices starting from around £36k the MG has a lot to offer, but can it live up to the brands sporting heritage?
The MG4's main rivals are the VW ID.3, Kia Soul EV, Hyundai Kona EV, Smart #1, Fiat 500 electric, Mini Electric, Cupra Born, ORA Funky Cat and Nissan Leaf, but it will also be up against both Piston and Hybrid rivals such as the VW Golf, Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Peugeot 308, Citroën C4, Vauxhall Astra, Skoda Scala, Seat Leon, Fiat Tipo, BMW 1 Series, Mercedes Benz A Class and Audi A3.

Nice vid ta. Could you do a real world range test - perhaps on a day well over 10c? There are some motorway tests in the cold that says it loses a lot of range (which cars without battery heat pumps do) but not a lot in warmer weather.

Good to see a (tiny) rear window wiper on the new models of the MG4. At least you'll now be able to see through a dinner plate size area of window at the back when the glass gets covered in schmutz while driving.

Don’t forget the much needed middle head rest that’s now been added too

    • @moragkerr9577

See, that's the thing. The rear wiper isn't needed. The glass doesn't get covered in anything due to the design of the rear of the car. It means you have the entire window clear, not just a tiny semi-circle the wiper gets. But people who hadn't lived with the car wouldn't believe that so they added the wee wiper for show.
The rear head rest covers the area the wiper wipes anyway. It's not meant to be left on the car, just to be stored in case you maybe need it some day.

Hi @@moragkerr9577What happens when a truck goes past on the motorway and sprays the whole car with muddy water, or dust? We also increasingly get pollen covering cars here in the UK in summer. I'm finding it hard to believe that the rear window *never* gets coated in any kind of schmutz, but It's good to hear positive reports from owners.

@@decimal1815 I've had the car over 10 months, over 7,000 miles, and never once have I actually wiped that rear windscreen at all. Of course it gets a wash when the car gets a wash, but that's it.
I still find my hand going for the place where the rear wiper stalk was on my previous car, but that's just habit, when the rain starts. All that's on the glass is clear raindrops you can see through, and these clear. I have literally not once thought, oh I wish I had a windscreen wiper.
In my old Golf I needed it to keep a semicircle of glass clear, but it squeaked like mad, and I've had passengers complaining, would I switch it off, and me thinking, but I need it on! Nothing like that on the MG4, I just remind myself that I don't need it, and I don't.
I suppose one-off incidents might happen, but nothing has happened to me.
Sometimes the windscreen seems fogged up when the rain is heavy, but that's exactly what it is. Put on the rear windscreen heater and it clears like magic. And this is the entire windscreen, not just a wee semi-circle.

I was following one the other the day at night and no glasses and I wondered what it was I thought very much BMW x2 until I got right behind it. Took off like scalded cat too. These seem to be getting quite common where I live

Hard to know. Some people say it's fine, especially after a recent software update, some people hate it. Lots of people saying they hate it but it's no worse than a lot of others.

@@moragkerr9577 MG are aware of this and are working on fixing the problem, at least from what I read on motoring sites in Sweden. many have complained about Lane assist here in Sweden and MG says that they have taken the criticism to heart and claim that they are working on it.

do you also have Rain sensor in wiper, do you also have passanger light.. absolute NOT.. also do you always have to disable each time the lane assisten, YES. and why are you NOT using shortcut to set "drive mode" and AC temp.
