- Speaking in an interview with Eddie Jordan, Adrian Newey revealed his future plans at an event hosted by Oyster Yachts during the Historic Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
Taking centre stage in front of an audience of F1’s greatest names - including former World Champion driver Mika Häkkinen, McLaren Racing CEO Zac Brown and driver-turned-pundit Mark Webber - the pair discussed the future of Newey’s career both on and away from the Formula 1 track.
The candid conversation moderated by Newey’s good friend and manager Eddie Jordan, delved into Newey’s remarkable F1 career, why he chose Oyster to build his dream 90-foot-long 885 sailing yacht and approached the obvious and hot question of the minute - “What's next?”

I really love Adrians personality. Even with all of his success he's still so humble and grateful to be working in F1. He's really living his dreams out and trying to enjoy every minute
I’ve known Adrian in a small way, when he share a room with Jeff and I after suffering a terrible Isle of Mann TT crossing where all our Bikes were dashed to the floor in a Force 12 gale, he was fairly new into a job at a small team in Reading , I have followed his career through the years and we all meet by chance at Goodwood and Adrian dragged us onto the RedBall stand through the back door and had a chat in front a ten deep crowd . I have always wondered what the crowd thought seeing two bikers in leathers chatting to Adrian . Also posing for a picture with us . What a talented and unassuming man . I know it’s a team sport but his record speaks for itself self . I have just arrived home from hospital after A tumble ( not Bike related ) and I have managed sit up and watch this.
The guy is a good example of what is right in the sport long may he continue
Seems like an intelligent and very sweet man and also very humble! I hope he’s able to stay busy and keep that mental sharpness that…as he said sometimes dulls with retirement! And what a compliment to have his friend say that for all the years he’s been his friend that he’s never none of anyone to say anything negative about him! What a tribute to this talented man!
EJ really putting in the hours on this press tour. 10/10 manager
Pretty good scoop for Oyster.
Do whatever you want Adrien. You've already given us so much.
Very Humble man for someone who is a genius
As a south african, so happy to see that Cape town has fond memories for Adrian and Eddie.
The tifosi will be welcoming him with open arms! 🙂
I am a F1 fan and a sailor. At 72 I would love a big Oyster to take me round the world. Some people might not realise it but sailing gets more difficult physically when you get older. Good luck whatever you do Adrian.
He has a crew…
Don’t forget that he has to take a year off “ garden leave “ its in his contract ...
A very humble and gentle man he’s designed some the championship winning cars from my childhood up to now in my late thirties. A real talent
Would love to see him go back to Williams and restore their greatness.
Can't believe Eddie is his manager. Newey doesn't need one surely.
Obviously good mates too.
This is an amazing super recent interview and as far as I know the first time Adrian gives insight into his current thinking and future plans… Congratulations for getting Adrian Newey and Eddie Jordan on and speaking about the current events, bet SKYSportsF1 are very envious now, 2 legends of sport, joy to listen to and great marketing for Oyster as well!
Amazing conversation between two good friends, great audio and production quality.
We can see the joy from Adrian Newey just talking about the plan. It definitely will be such an experience to sail on his oyster,
Such a shame that Zak Brown did not make it on stage tho!
Thank you for making all these videos.
Took me 6 secs to figure out what he's doing. Thank for the quick vid, and the quick news.
Getting F1 news from a yacht company was not on my bingo card but I'm not complaining
Adrian, come to Sicily with your boat (Milazzo, just in front of Aeolians islands) and carry your bike with you. I'll show you Nibali's roads ecc.
Feel free to contact me (if you'll ever read this comment)
my takeaway is that - a couple of years on his boat, then back to McLaren for one last time
Thank you for everything you have done for Motorsport and to advance the sport. Your book “How to Build a Car” was an amazing insight into the process and creative disciplined problem solving that makes the Formula so fascinating and keeps millions of fans engaged on the compelling blend of technology, man, data, and decision making under uncertainty.
An excellent, insightful conversation. Brilliant strategy by EJ unfolding.
Thanks for this, watched the previous video of Adrian viewing the build of his yacht ,this one is also good to hear Adrian and Eddie chatting.
It could have been longer but well done.
We can’t wait to see what you do next, Adrian
Great to watch! Thank you..
Eddie Jordan is a force of nature.
Adrian’s retirement plan: sail off into the sunset in this beauty🌅
This what a world class job fair looks like
Be great to see Adrian go back to Williams.
He is a pure magician
The choice of background image is purely random!
Regardless of what you will do, all Formula 1 enthusiasts are with you, Mr. Newey, hoping that you will help creating other legendary race-cars. Godspeed!
Eddie and Adrian, my fellow Capetonians! 😀
His Oyster Yacht will feel at home at an Italian port and a nice house in Tuscany for him and his wife.
awesome thanks for sharing
I find it hilarious that Adrian had no idea how big of a deal he is.
I met Adrian’s dad when he lived in Yorkshire… What a lovely man!
Do F1 fans Know about this channel? They should.
The BBC just mentioned the interview on their F1 page (which is why I'm here) so would expect an influx of fans shortly!
Now I know ;) It was not hard to google it after several mentions in specialized media ;)
@visorcover it's also on official F1 Web site 😉👍
Did Eddie say a new bike would be included in the deal from Zak…? 14:59
fantastic interview
2 Giants in sport i dont believed r interviewd enough these gents r legends
Just keep doing what you love most!
two wonderful characters from two different sides of the scale but they merge seamlessly
Eddie trying to get on that chair like a baby`s first chair had me in bits lol
He is a man of passion, which would go well with the Williams team.
Take a break, checkout that sailboat, drive those vintage racecars, enjoy the moment,Bon Voyage
A true legend!!!!
The Leyton house car to me is one of the nicest looking F1 cars
The Genius himself!
Italy makes some nice road bikes 😉
Eddie let that one slip lol. Adrian is off to McLaren then lol.
Great interview!
One word ..legend
Adrian, please design a new future for racing hulls with oyster using next level Americas cup technology but at smaller size and affordability ? The industry needs consolidated application of Knowledge to provide fast efficent conversion of wind to speed.
What Eddie doesn't seem to realise is; when someone is good at what they do, their job is not so stressful for them 😂
Never really sailed apart from dinghies and the americas cup haha quite the bookends of sailing
Great move by Eddie Jordan and he's doing a great job.
He'll go build his own like Gordon . Watch
"At some point I'll probably go again"
Sounds like he's taking a sebbatical from F1 and maybe return later..?
❤
@15:24 Adrian explains in one sentence why Boeing is / was doomed (I know is not related to F1, but the principle is valid). Just a thought. Thank you for sharing.
Sails are also aerodynamic devices, just like wings. That will capture his imagination.
happy retirement Mr. Adrian
Enjoy your boat you lucky soul.
If Andrian really wanted to challenge himself, he would join a team that he hasn't been with before and is not a factory team like Ferrari or Audi...someone like Haas.
oo zack brown trying to get him for 26 lol
I hope he'll sail away while he still has the time. New tomorrows aren't a given..so I truly hope Adrian will enjoy a well earned retirement. 😉❤🙏🏻
Ross Brawn did 7 world championships with Michael Schumacher so that's 15 driver + constructor championships.
Everyone is just speculating, but the bottom line is that Newey will enjoy himself first. And no one knows what he will do in the future, not Sky sports or F1, who now as I post this, say that Newey admits he will return to another team soon! It's all nonsense...only Newey himself knows what he's going to do, so stop speculating!!
he should join andretti racing and help them join f1
Interesting comment about the amount of races being held. Are we going to lose more great talent to the rigors of the F1 calander?
Very poignant on his engineering friends who are no longer in engineering. It is sad as he says. In the UK engineers are rarely valued enough for their skills considering the effort that goes into learning to become one and become professional. Very many engineers simply head into management or financial industries or other more commercial jobs because they can get paid properly for their abilities. It is a sad state of affairs really. I am still in engineering myself but i know my classmates (and who are still friends today) earn minimum 2x more doing non engineering professional roles. And they dont have to work any harder or smarter. Granted a few really lament not being able to be an engineer, but at the end of the day you cant pay your way with job satisfaction and love for engineering.
I am confused -- will Newey being going to McLaren after taking a year off?
Perhaps as an advisor, but as a full-time designer, very unlikely. The man has his eyes set on enjoying retirement, sailing around the world.
U need to get on that yacht and chill even you can’t engineer destiny
I do hope he's off to Ferrari. It'll be a great end to two careers for Adrian and Lewis
🚗🙏😁
As an oyster in the sea….
I thought he was going to McLaren?
Let’s also remember red bull won nothing when they didn’t have a reliable Honda engine, the combination of a Newey chassis and aero
a Honda engine and a top 6 driver gave them success. Remove Newey and no success I’m afraid. Remove the present driver and any
one of the top six drivers could sit in that car and win. Newey can’t be replaced, Honda can’t be replaced that’s fact and why he’s the
best design engineer ever to put a F1 car on a track. Hondas use of chrome linings and split turbos was the key factor to giving Red
bull the 1 sec a lap advantage that has given them the edge, coupled with the designed rule change brought in to break up Mercedes
dominance in f1.
He may stay in F1 in an advisory capacity, but committing to a full-time gig with a team is very unlikely.
You can tell he has his eyes set on enjoying his retirement, sailing around the world. He has just bought a £6million+ Oyster Yacht.
Enjoy it Adrian, well deserved, absolute legend.
Eh? Pretty clear he wants a bit of a holiday, then back to work as an F1 designer. But not retirement.
Who’s here from Ted? 😂
Is Eddie becoming the new Bernie. ..... in his head at least maybe.
He still chokes up when he thinks about Ayrton :/
please go to Andretti
I’m guessing Oyster’s website and social media traffic has just increased dramatically because of this Newey bloke recently lol
Hi Adrian,
If you go to Ferrari, I'll buy an Oyster, rather than an Amel.
Can't say fairer that that.
🤝
Eddie jordan is milking it lol
Yes Adrian is a great engineer but let us be fair, he did not win all those Championships he and his team managed to do that! F1 is a ream sport and many engineers and you need a very good driver.
Totally agree with everything you said (can’t see how anyone who understands F1 beyond a very basic level could disagree).
That said, I do think Newey brings something more to the teams he’s been involved in than that of an individual contributor in the aero dept of an F1 team.
I think there was a song that had the lyric “we saw the crescent, but you saw the whole of the moon” that captures what makes him so special in understanding how to translate changing FIA rules/regulations into a championship winning car.
All very true, but if you look at his career moves between teams, when he moves, sooner or later success moves with him. The change in fortunes between ‘97 and ‘98 for Williams and McLaren is probably the clearest example, but it’s also hard to deny that his move to Red Bull helped them climb from the ashes of Jaguar to a title-winning outfit in just six years.
It’s a team effort…. But it’s not coincidence that it’s been in one of his cars more than anyone else’s.
@@sultanoftippoo3857 I agree.
I think that Adrian Newey did benefit a lot from the era when started working in autosport. In 1980 the concept for racecars was ground effect. He designed March groundeffect Indycars that won 2 championships and twice the Indy 500. After he designed those cars he worked with the drivers as their race engineer due to how small teams were back then. Newey worked as an aerodynamicist, designer, race engineer, TD and CTO. He designed IMSA Sportcars, Indycars, F2 and F1 cars but also Aston Martin's hypercar Valkyrie and works on the RB17 trackcar.
That's right. Adrian was just an intern bringing coffee. It was cheatstappens amazing driving that bought all those titles 🤡
Adrian, start your own f1 team, Newey Racing, leave the legacy
Forza Ferrari, lets go get Lewis that 8th!
Please retire Newey to save F1. Your cars are too good for F1
25 world championships
The bloke is "The" WIZARD 🫡
