How to RIDE MULTIPLE ROUTES Without Quitting Zwift

  • One of the most frustrating things about Zwift is that you have to exit the program to make any changes to your world/map. We want to be able to keep pedaling and make changes and this is even more true when it comes to route badge hunting! Imagine being able to knock out a handful of short routes without ever exiting the program! Well, while we wait for Zwift to do something with the UI, there is a bit of a workaround for this if you don't mind taking a minute on the companion app to set up some meetups to keep you moving. I show you how to do just that in this video.

    With all the subscribers Zwift has they really need to allow something simple like course changes. The community keeps asking for it but Zwift ignores it.

      The problem is actually the way that the game was originally coded. There wasn't a workaround to have the cache dump and it would eventually cause the game to crash. This is why the app closes out at the end of the ride rather than reverting to the main menu. There was actually a UI forthcoming in Q1 2020 and they were going to launch it during the slow season in the summer... then Covid happened. With the huge influx of new subscribers and lockdowns, they didn't want to risk launching it and have it be buggy and cause problems. Historically during the summer, there were only a few thousand riders on at a time, and they could in essence beta test the new UI... but there have been tens of thousands so they scrapped it. My suspicion is that they might even be coding a completely new program to replace Zwift original and will eventually replace it. The code they used is pretty inflexible. It's kind of like video games right? They don't just keep updating an old one, they basically start from scratch. It's definitely frustrating for us, but when you look back at how small scale this game originally was, it makes sense how they got locked into insufficient code.

    I wasn't aware of the 3 meet-ups limitation, great information Sarah as always. Thank you. BTW - Zwift's recent glitch for me was - it lost my bluetooth connections, cadence, power, speed at the exact moment I was going up the incline from the TUBE in London - 15% grade, oh and not only was I burning one of my last matches from the badge route The PRL half, I am now having to pedal instead of 10 seconds at 500 watts, now at 40 seconds just to keep my trainer spinning before locking up. It seems only recently has Zwift been having these issues. 4 badges left (all Huge rides) Four Horsemen, Mega Pretz, PRL Full and Uber Pretz.

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So I had the same issue! Three rides in a row, it just wouldn't recover my connections. I completely deleted the program and installed the newer version of the launcher. Fingers crossed it's the fix, no problems since! And those rides are a bear... they are always the last rides for most folks. The pretzel rides they often bake into some of the fondo series so keep an eye out for those. Usually on weekends, if you can make the time slots, it's a great way to ride with other people and speeds up the flats.

    Using Meet-ups is a good way of avoiding the horrendous lead ins in Innsbruck’s Lutscher and Lutscher CCW routes as the Meet up spawns just before the start of the route at the top of the hill not in the city 9-11km and 425m of ascent away.

    Couple of things, you could use Tiberius to send you meetups as well if he's your own creation. Also, if you schedule for a day ahead you can set the time to say 1 minute ahead of current time and then if you change the day back to present day it leaves the time the same, so only 1 minute till your meetup starts. Really useful video, thank you… only question, it’s regarding the data being sent from Zwift to STRAVA. If you complete 1 route badge, then move to another, will the entire distance, elevation, time all be recorded as 1 or does it automatically separate them?

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "GPS" data attached to Zwift rides is incapable of processing jumps in location in the game, even in the same world. So, when you move from event to event, whether it's a meetup, a race, or a group ride, the ride will end, and save. You will restart a brand new ride at zero miles and zero elevation. It will all apply to your overall stats in the game, but will show up as several separate rides.

      Thank you for your response, I’ve been recently collecting the Route Badges, however I’ve just been on to see what routes I need to collect, however it’s indicating I’ve now not got some of the routes I’ve done .

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carlsimmons305 honestly, the only way to fill in the routes is to complete them, even if you're under the impression you have. There is no way for Zwift to rectify missed badges. A few things to look out for, make sure the blue banner comes up at the bottom of the screen that says "Route Complete." Make sure you don't veer off at all, an accidental u-turn that is corrected will negate the badge, make sure the route is selected in the menu - don't manually navigate and make sure you save the ride. If you trash rides, sometimes the achievements are deleted.

    • @carlsimmons305
      @carlsimmons305 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely & that’s my point, I’ve gone out of my way to do exactly what you indicated, however I now find several haven’t been accepted. I even made sure I knew the approach distance & rode further than required.
      The only thing I haven’t done each time is taken a screen shot proving I’ve received the badge.

    Hi Sarah, great video! Thanks!
    I tried doing the "Greater London Flat" route in a meet up to get the route badge, but it didn't give me the badge at the end for some reason. Any idea?
    The route is usually 11.7km, plus a 5.7km lead-in.
    But when I set up the meet up it defaulted to a 12.7km distance (1km more than than the route).
    So it seemed to avoid the lead-in.
    But after 24mins (and 12.7km) of cycling was disappointed not to get the route badge (blue banner did not show), even after going the extra 1km!
    Any idea why that might have been?!
    I didn't do any U-turns, or veer off. The route was selected in the Meet Up.
    Cheers 👍

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you pass through the banner and haven't unlocked it already it should work. Sometimes a bug in the game causes the badge not to read. This had been a long standing issue that Zwift hasn't root caused yet. Recently people have reported Zwift crediting the badge with the evidence of ride data/completion. That is a new thing, they never used to. It's an option if you have the patience for it. Definitely something to keep in mind if it happens on one of the big routes.

    Is there a way to save a race (immediately after competing) then extended my session (same curse) for a cool-down (with lower power)? Yesterday I did a race and finished at the top of the volcano. I wanted to ride back down the volcano but I didn't want to impact my race average power result. Thnx.

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not directly. You have two options: 1. Use this method after the race is over or 2. Start a game session in a different world than the race to warmup, then use the prompt to bring you to the pen. That will start a new session from your warmup for the race. Once the race is over, it will ask you if you want to go back to the world you came from. If you say yes, it will end that session and move you back to the original world for a cool down or extended ride. Either way you have to purposefully manipulate your rides. The meetup option will work better for you if you want to stay within a world i.e. Watopia. Maybe just pause set the meetup and bounce to another location, it should still start a new session as the game can't write that transition to its "GPS" file.

      I've been in software development for decades. It's always the same story. There comes a time when you need to refactor and clean up the code without adding any new features. Management has no clue why this needs to happen so they blow it off and you wind up with a very unstable and fragile application. It's called "Jenga Syndrome".
