      @@EverythingIsPhotogenic also, don't forget that if you do a course that ends on the top of the Alpe like Quatch Quest or Road to Sky, you only need to pass back through the banner and bring your avatar up to speed in order to watch her/him rack up an additional 260 XP for he 12.5 km descent and the inevitable run out at the bottom. So, once you have all the badges, the Road to the Sky is actually the MOST efficient way to rack up XP. From the spawn point until my avatar stops at the bottom of the descent, it takes me right around 1 hour (7 minutes to the base of the climb, 39-42 minutes of climbing, and then the descent). On days when I get the 1000 XP bonus to go with the 33 km of the route + descent, I get 1660 XP in one hour, the same as I would get if I were to ride at 83 kph. Since that sort of speed is literally impossible for an hour in any normal riding situation, I'd call that a pretty sweet hack for quickly running up your XP.

      @@mathewrose2951 Not for the noobs silly.... most people aren't going sub-60, getting the 1000XP or pulling the Chris Pritchard special of cranking their weight up to 250kg on a TT bike and bombing down after an 1800 watt sprint lol!! You're right though. For intermediate+ climbers, it's a solid return. Please tell me you've done the Pritch hack! It's hilarious. I am totally trying it the next time I do the Alpe.

    Excellent video and screenshot worthy. I would add that even though you don’t get XP for your hilly routes that require a great deal of wattage, you will get more drops 💧 and that means more options in buying frames and wheels down the line. Once again, excellent video Sarah! I come back here to watch it many times.

      I feel the same way. Our weather gets so bad here that there was just no way I was going to be able to come up with a ton of relevant content for the winter... I made a couple videos last year about Zwift that went pretty nuts with views and I realized Zwift sucks just as much now at shepherding new riders along as it did in 2015... Maybe even worse considering the community is so much larger now. No one is making these videos for newbies. Shane makes great stuff but it is very geared toward experience. Eric Schlange is a godsend, but the man simply won't capitalize on video which is what people really want... No reading, just sit and absorb. People are absolutely mind blown by stuff I had to fumble my way through years ago and im just so used to now, I worry it might be too obvious... Clearly not... For feat of being pigeonholed as the Zwift Lady, I almost feel compelled to post every silly thing I can think of so the newbies don't have to struggle like we did. Shit I went over a year without earning toward the Tron bike... I had to put that in my beginner video... At least 10s of thousands of people might sidestep that landmine 🤣

    Great timing for this video. I only started on Zwift back in October 2020 and I'm mid-way through Level 19 now. yesterday, I completed all of the routes categorised by Zwift Insider as '1 Bidon' and I have 2 routes left to do in the '2 Bidon' categorisation. It only get harder from here. I found that an easy way to tick off the shorter (sub-one hour) routes was to ride them when doing a workout; then, you are going to be putting in the efforts anyway so it doesn't matter how hilly the route is. You get the benefits of completing a workout and bonus XP for completing a new route. Thanks again for your videos.

    Sorry to clarify, you said, "extra points" by unlocking route completions. Otherwise, for the time being, since I can cover the most distance in a ride on Tempus Fugit being completely flat, I would think that I would level up the fastest that way. Another technique that I use for hilly routes (like Alpe du Zwift) is using a Workout. That way, as slow as I am going up, I get more points by time, then by distance. Example: It takes me just over an hour to ride the distance (not including lead-in). The section of the climb is only 12.5 km. Well at normal Zwift calculations, I would only get 240 points to reach the top. Plus the 240 bonus points every time it is complete (sometimes). So working off just distance as the assured thing, the most I could get climbing by distance is 240 points. BUT, lol, but, if I put in a workout with 61 second (00:01:01) intervals (total time is 61 minutes), I get 11 points per interval. That means for my climb up the Alpe, I will get 671 XP. Then I get to spin the wheel. (which btw, has happened every time I have gone up even in workout mode) Anyhow, I was really curious about the bonus points. :) :) :)

    Riding with the D or C pace partners give you a very high average speed, not achieveable alone or on hilly routes. And then just the simple 20 XP per kilometre can get you up quick too.

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure, riding with a bunch can really make these far more achievable. If you use structured workouts, that's another way to tick off the badges. The metric advantage is definitely a good one too, considering the majority of Zwift users are already on the other side of the pond using metric, they're already ahead of us sill Americans who always forget to go in the menu and change it

      Too many about 2500m. It's just a mind-numbing hellhole of a course. You get a good deal of recovery between climbs but for the love of God, having to look at that same loop 11 times is cruel and unusual. What's more painful, is people generally only do that route one time... And when zwift glitches out and doesn't give the badge, well it has to be like a digital kick in the nuts... Thanks for the mi/km conversion, quick tip though, we never talk about tenth of a kilometer, but a km being 1000m we convert that to m instead. So 0.3km is actually 300m and we say that, much like you'd use inches rather than fractions of a foot to express something smaller than 1 foot. The good thing is because the metric system is a decimal system it works even though it's awkward to hear ;)

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've always seen km shorthand measured in fractions I never hear anyone say "I rode 46 kilometers and 300 meters" they say 46.3. 0.3 is read in common parlance as "point three" or "three tenths" I'm aware of how the metric system works, if you're not a fan of my verbiage, so be it. To each their own. Have a good day.

    • @xGshikamaru
      @xGshikamaru 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EverythingIsPhotogenic hey I thought that was constructive criticism, I even said it works and I appreciate that you don't just use imperial units. I'll answer but I'm not sure you're even interested in it. A track lap is 400m not 4 tenth of a km. The reason we use km is the same we use light years to measure distances in space or millimeters for the diameter of an allen key, it's just shorter than using meters like 46000m in your example, people can better grasp what 46km is like or what 8mm is when compared to a 5mm one, while 0.005 and 0.008 is so small it's almost identical. Once you use km you indeed use "point three" if there are any decimals after that (if that matters) because it's shorter to say. We may use meters until it reaches a 5 digit number, like the track event for a 10k is 10000m for instance, but start using km as soon as it reaches 1km like during the lockdown our allowed perimeter was 1km. Sorry if my comment comes across as offensive it wasn't my intention. Btw I'm not an English native speaker so even the numbering system differs in my country for things likes years, we don't say the year is 20 20 or spell a phone number digit by digit for instance, I was just pointing out that the metric system allows you conversions on the fly (like you could display 0.3km but say 300m) and that the SI unit is the meter. Merry Christmas

    • @xGshikamaru
      @xGshikamaru 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Btw in Zwift if you switch to km you'll see that on a KOM the distance switches to meters when you're less than 1km to go, try it one day :)

    A year later One Question. Since you don’t get a badge every time you complete a route, do you get the same XP points each time you complete it? I see people doing for example the Fugit route 5 or 7 times in one day and I wonder is it because it’s an easier way to pile up some XP without having to tackle a hillier route. Seems to be the case but I know that you know that we know that you’ll have a much more interesting and entertaining answer. 😂

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi 🙂 you only get the XP bonus once. The biggest reason people are on Tempus Fugit because it's pancake flat and you get a good return for speed and earn a lot of XP that way, especially with the Cara Cadence pace partner. I think you'll see more attention in Neokyo now too with flat routes and profiles to chew up XP fast. Peak time, those routes look more like a conga line. 😅

You really should be able to set it and forget it. The fact that you looped hilly route 4 times leads me to think that somehow it kicked you to hilly route after you selected mountain route and before you clicked ride.

Definitely is far better than the Amp lotion just on application alone in terms of effectiveness I would say it's been consistent. Can you please clarify something - if I add the km covered in the lead in to the km covered in the route, and multiply by 20, I get the total XP for completing the route. This is the same number of XP I get for covering that distance anytime. So, does completing the route for the first time effectively double my XP? Or, is it just the same XP as riding the distance anywhere? Thanks!

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The distances are not always an exact computation to the bulk experience points, but they are generally within 20 points favoring high, so effectively you are generally at least doubling your earning when you complete a route badge ( only the first time, of course) So, for example, if you did Quatch quest, you would earn the 920 points for the badge and as long as you rolled over into an even 46km, you would have accrued 920 points along the way, totaling 1840. That's why badge hunting is the fastest way to level up 😀

      @@EverythingIsPhotogenic Thank you for the quick reply. So, you are saying that when the route is completed, you basically "double" the XP for that route (not including the lead-in). Meaning, if I did "Dust in the Wind", I would get the accumulative 1080 XP while doing the ride, and at the completion (the first time) I would get ANOTHER 1080 XP? Thank you. :)

    Hi informative video. So as it stands right now the quickest flatest route to ride for the purposes of the festive500 considering ALL the worlds would be Tempest Fugit?

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      YES!! And, you should join the C Cadence Pace partner it's a pretty nice pace and you pick up more speed with the group. With everyone attacking the festive 500, there are huge groups on Tempus Fugit, even if you go off the front or drop back, you'll likely still be in a mini group cruising.

    • @lawor8

      @@EverythingIsPhotogenic never heard about this cadence group. Did you make a video about that you can point me to or briefly explain it here? • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lawor8 Ah, ok, so they aren't events, they're actually bots that just ride around at a steady pace and people join in and draft. They're easy to get to. After you pair up and get to the main screen, select the Watopia world, it doesn't matter what course. Then, before you click ride, look at the list that says "Join another rider?" At the top of that list will be a black box that says "Pace Partners" There are A, B, C, and D riders with silly names A. Antequil his the A ride which runs 4-5 WKG and climbs a lot. Literally, no one is ever riding with that one lol. B. Brevet is the B ride and it rides at 3.2-4 with some climbing. C Cadence is the C ride which is actually a good comfortable pace and really popular even for more advanced riders. To ride for longer distances, it seems to be in a good sweet spot for power and just laps Tempus Fugit. If you are a new rider, and C. Cadence is a bit quick, D. Diesel is the real casual paced ride on the flats. I find that one to be a little too easy, even as a woman with lower raw wattage, I blow right out the front at a light spin but I have also been on a bike for several years, so if you were a road/MTB rider before you joined Zwift, I would skip that one. The bots run almost all the time. Occasionaly they turn a couple of them off during non-peak hours, but if you ride at peak times, you should have your pick. I hope that made sense, the black box should stick out like a sore thumb, click it and pick a ride and once you hit ride start pedaling it will dump you in the group already up to speed. It will give you an assist for 5 seconds or until it detects consistent power.

    As a newbie to Zwift, this was very helpfull. But is there a way to "see" these lead-ins if you are ready for a ride? My son wanted to try Zwift also and he chose Jungle Loop. 8km was enough for him. He wanted to ride until he unlocked the badge so he did 14km but this was not good for his motivation.... :-( So can we see it or why is Zwift not working with the total distance in their list? As you say, not everebody has a lot of time or is a pro racer. If we can not see it, then I have a list now. I found it on You tube. Maybe you know the video,hahaha :-) :-) :-)

      Nothing really without going into the menu and looking at your menu, that said, if you don't mind taking a couple of minutes to transfer what you've done so far to the ZwiftHub website, it is a way to track what you have done. It has a lot of great details about the courses and you can slice the data to see what's left and filter by world and so on. It can definitely be a useful tool if you don't mind putting a little maintenance into it.

      No, I don't use Zwift for 6 months or so out of the year outside of a few rides a month. Our weather is so prohibitive here in the winter we tend to try to savor any rides we can get outdide. I'm only indoors during inclement weather/wind, a workout that needs more control or very occasionally, a workday that pushes my workout into the dark. Slows things down a lot considering how many miles I do in the summer I'm not getting credit for 😉 I'd probably guess this time next year I would be at level 50 unless our weather is really bad this summer 😎
