Howard Jones, one of the best vocalists in the genre. Dude can belt notes out like my dad could belt out punishments. It leaves an impression. Haha.

Fun fact: Howard Jones (lead singer of Killswitch Engage when this video was made) trained with Melissa Cross, who's quite famous for training metal musicians in the music industry. 🤟 Edit: sorry, former lead singer of Killswitch Engage. The current singer is Jesse Leach. He's the lead singer in this video, but not for the band in general anymore. He's a classically trained Operatic singer.
Howard is not a classically trained operatic singer, as many may believe online. He was on a podcast last year and confirmed this was not true. The host asked him a question then he said, "I'm classically trained?" while laughing and sounding confused.

I musta listened to this track a thousand times. I never consciously understood that the drums were changing unless the whole band changed. I am stupid.
It's all about time framing, which is what this guy recognized. The drummer matches the time frame, then doubles it, then brings it back. As long as 4 hits of the drum equal 2 guitar notes spaced out, it works because of timing. Or even the opposite.

Why did heavy bands around this time have single versions that had screaming parts changed to singing? I remember Trivium and BFMV did it too

Roadrunner probably figured they could get more off of separate versions of singles. Hear the version in the music video, buy that version, buy the album.

I notice that stopped doing that annoying shit a long time ago. Now bands that have screaming just keep it in the music video. The alternate clean versions are insulting to the fans and total garbage.
I want to say Jessie originally wrote the song and demo’ed it back in the 2000’s. Howard ended up getting ridding off most of the screaming

It’s not very hard to stay on beat if the drummer is cutting notes from quarter notes down to half notes or sixteenths down to half notes.
Howard is the best and only singer Killswitch Engage shouldve had.
This version always bothers me. There's not even that much screaming, idk why they made a radio edit
I personally find the backing vocals at the end are worth it. The melodies Adam has there are great.
