One of the first metalcore albums ever. This album really kicked off the genre it should be a staple in any metalcore fans collection.
Also Suicide notes and butterfly wings by Atreyu was released in 2002 as well
I'm going to have to say Darkest Hour and Shadows Fall really kicked off metal core because technically they were some of the first!! Besides Hatebreed but I never really got into them

Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall are around the same time since Adam D produced music for shadows fall and All That Remains and even As I Lay Dying. Killswitch Engage was more widely known in my opinion. I remember hearing the first 2 killswitch engage albums and I bought Alive or Just Breathing. When Guitar hero 3 came out and I unlocked the Killswitch Engage bonus song "My Curse" I absolutely fell in love with Killswitch. Loved both Jesse and Howard. Ive been to a few of their concerts and even have tickets to see them with Light The Torch and August Burns Red. Too bad covid came in. I guess you could say though that Shadows Fall falls in line with Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying as some og the founding members of metalcore but you have to admit Killswitch Engage has took it to another level....im glad they arent really mainstream as far as I know but they definitely deserve more credit and bigger fame.

The whole Alive or Just Breathing Album is one of the best in metalcore. I always come back to the record and it doesn't bore me 😀

The entire album is a masterpiece. I can go back and listen to it now and it slaps just as hard musically and lyrically.
yet... another song that changed my life many years ago. Alive or Just Breathing is one of the top 10 greatest albums of all-time.
Numbered Days and The Element Of One are probably my favorite tracks on this record, which is all great. You should check them out.
Killswitch engage are one of my favorite bands ever. I even got the skull and wings tattoo from the end of heartache album they have got me through alot of dark times and they are even better live both jesse and howard are great.♡

I went back and listened to this album probably about a year ago and it’s absolutely one of my favorites now. The riffs, the pace, the change ups. 💪💪
The Element of One track off that album was so under rated
First song I every heard by them back when it was a new song, was hooked immediately.

Have you heard The Signal Fire yet? If you haven't stop everything and check it out! It's off their most recent album, so it's with Jesse, but they also brought Howard in for a guest spot. The two of them together, melts my mind.
I was listening to this song at the Dome night club when I lived in London 16 years ago .....still listening now .

Love this band! This was my first album of theirs and I have never looked back. I love both Jesse and Howard and kinda wish they could both front KSE. My faves are pretty much all songs from Alive or Just Breathing, but an underrated one that I really love is Rise Inside, also Element of One. Other faves are My Curse, End of Heartache, Starting Over, Save Me, Holy Diver, All In Due Time, Rose of Sharyn, Always, The Hell in Me, the list goes on to be honest. But most recently The Signal Fire! Anyway, they're an awesome band! Thanks for reacting to this one. Rxxx

@@DMSpikes1987 I actually bought the album at Ozzfest in 2003 after being blown away by their set. Buying the album automatically got me a chance to meet the band and get it signed. Adam is legitimately one of the nicest human beings I've ever encountered in my life.

Jessie's performance on this album is dripping with conviction and emotion. My Last Serenade is the best song ever written.
I love that Killswitch took their name from an episode of the X Files
The birth of Metalcore. It was wild at the time, growing up with hardcore, and it diverging into Post-Hardcore and Metalcore, it was fun times. Now I feel old. This was the jam though, nice reaction.

I remember when this came out, I was floored. I loved these guys. But t HF en Jesse left and it took me a long time to like KE after Howard Jones came in because there were other changes in the band that altered the sound away from what I liked about them.

Think most would agree that Howard is a more talent singer. But I love Jesse's lyrics & emotion. If you're staying with the old, I'd go with "Self Revolution" "Fixation on the Darkness" & "Just Barely Breathing." If you want to jump to newer Jesse, I'd go with "The New Awakening" "Strength of the Mind" & "The Crownless King."
