This is a Volvo P1800S that was produced by Lone Star for the Impy line from 1967. Like its contemporaries, it had jewel headlights, an opening bonnet, boot and doors. And like its contemporaries, its scaling suffered as a result. The side view of this Volvo, one of the most beautiful cars of the 60s, is just plain awkward. The doors look too large giving it a high belt line and it looks as if the front and rear sag as a result.
The model transitioned to the low friction Flyers line and remained until 1976 when the brand all but disappeared. My particular example is of one of the Impy models that exclusively came in a white to off-white to cream shade. Other colours became available after the switch to low friction wheels but they were still limited to metallic red or salmon pink. Mine scratched all over in generally poor condition with a jewel headlight out too.
The real P1800 was produced by the Swedish marque between 1961 and 1973. It was originally a coupé before becoming a shooting brake towards the end of production. The styling was done by Pelle Petterson under the tutelage of Pietro Frua. The P1800 gained a great deal of attention starring in the TV series The Saint alongside Roger Moore between 1962 and 1969. In addition, a P1800 was certified as the highest mileage private vehicle driven by the original owner having exceeded 3.25 million miles (over 5.23 million km).
