I'm starting to run out of models to pair trailers to as I whittle my way through the Matchbox 1-75 series one by one! So today I have decided to pair the beautiful 65B Jaguar 3.4 Litre casting with the earlier intricate 48A Meteor Sportsman Mk II boat and trailer. I could see a Jag driver wafting around in their Mark 2 towing their sports boat behind them for a weekend out on Windermere.
The Jag itself was in poor condition, missing its bonnet and tow hook as well as much of its paint. The model always came in red with the earlier offerings metallic. Underneath the opening hood was a well cast six cylinder 3.4 (or 3.8 depending on whether you believe the box or base!) engine which formed part of the base. As for the boat, that had been repainted from its original tan and blue shade to something resembling a bruise. The trailer's towing eye was absent too.
Fenn and Wood were the manufacturers of the Meteor boat but they appear to be long out of business. I managed to find a real photo of a Sportsman from roughly the same era as the casting and it looks like Lesney did a decent job of recreating it. As I mentioned above, the Jag was of course based on the timeless Mark 2 which was built from 1959 until 1967.

That is a great combination that has been restored wonderfully by you Jason to show off how beautiful they originally were. I'm glad you mentioned the Jaguar being used as a getaway car as when you showed them my first thought was 'I bet they stole that boat'.

I had the later plastic boat when I was little. I was taking a bath and managed to get it into the spout, but it wouldn’t come back out. I was crying like a bitch when my dad walked in and saved the day. Interesting, the metal boat. Nice job on these.

they look great again, as new and even shinier. :) interesting thing with the boat, too bad there is no info anymore on it. I think Lone Star had a similar boat on tab back when, only a different name. I found one in a job lot once.
They make a fantastic combination and look super in their restored condition. Any reason why the back bumper on the Jaguar didn't receive some chrome? 🙂
